i moved from the church to the big warehouse in the other town. much better, a lot more stuff can happen there.

game is superb...minus the technical hiccups.

Because they already have Microsoft taking like 60% of their profits and didn't need to give away another like 20%.

60%?

Jesus Christ, those greedy bastards. I thought they'd only be 20% or something with the bulk going to the developers. Taking that much is pretty f'd up.

Do you really think they would of signed up with Microsoft if Microsoft was taking 60%. The normal for PSN, XBLA and Steam is 30%.

I don't think it works like that. My Marcus is 100% maxed out in all skills and specializations and I had a long stretch where he went missing all the god damn time, it was pretty annoying.

Probably. When my characters need help I sometimes leave them, especially when they are characters I play as.

Well, I think MS funded the game too. If they funded most of the game I understand why they are taking a big cut.

It was in development for a number of years before MS stepped in, but I guess you're right that they probably did help with funding towards the end.

Still, 60% seems crazy excessive for not doing much work.

30% is definitely a lot better, the developers deserve the lion share of the money made from this incredible game. It's their brainchild after all and they've been working on it for years, to see MS might be taking 60% sticks in my craw.

I've literally been out of the loop on this and only heard about it today. I have over 8000 points so I might as well download it.

Download the trial first, if only to see if you can handle the jank. If you can, I think you'll love the game, but the jank is seen as a barrier for getting into the game for some people.

Not me though, I've played far too many janky games to care any more, so long as the gameplay is great, it's a non issue for me.

So the dude ran away after I informed him of Becca's past. Now not sure how to finish the quest? Anyone know, or do I have to wait for a pop up?

As a fan of eastern european/german games, 'jank' ? Pfft :p

That is why you shouldn't play the demo honestly. I accidentally bought the game through xbox.com even though I just wanted to try the demo.

I don't think I would have bought the game after playing the demo. If you are slightly interested in this, just buy it and get used to the technical issues.

Which one is that? I am ready to move now and the treehouse thing looks like crap :)
There is one but they say it has no secure walls.

FYI the Walking Dead IP isn't purchasable for a realistic amount anymore. In fact I think the game benifits from its own world an information than walking dead including the unique enemy types like the feral and fat bastards.

For the newcomers since we see a lot of the same questions repeating a bit.

Those cover a good deal of the basics. Also Slasher has a twitch channel and he is always answering questions there.

Haha, yeah. Pretty much this.

This is a good point too, but some people genuinely don't handle jank well so I thought I'd just let Sean know.

Why are trade missions always ammo for food? Stop trying to do those you stupid idiots. We've got food, it's ammo we need.

Yeah, ammo is pretty much the main currency of the world. Would have been nice if when setting up a workshop, you could start to make your own bullets, but I guess that would have made the game too easier/too shooter focused.

Foe me the technical issues were really easy to overcome.

Yep, jank has never really bothered me. Even in Advent Rising, coming across a game breaking bug after 6hrs, while annoying, didn't annoy me enough to never play the game again. I just took a coupleof days, came back and started afresh.

And anyone who had played FO: New Vegas to completion can easily handle the jank here.

Excellent. Great news that the bulk of the money is going to the developers as it means they'll be able to expand and give us Class 4 much sooner.

Quick questions:

Can you bring guys on missions? I hate always going out solo, is there a way to ask people to go out with you?

Is there a way to repair damaged weapons?

You can't directly bring survivors on missions, but you can force them to tag along during their let's go for a walk missions. Just don't go back to home base, they'll stick with you until you head back there.

To repair weapons, you need a workshop. If you have a workshop and some extra material, leave the damaged weapon in the supply locker and it will eventually be repaired.

You can also upgrade the workshop to repair vehicles in the parking space. Currently it's supposed to take 14 real life hours to fully repair. Upcoming patch will make it each dawn in game time.

Well just completed the game. Never actually got killed by zombies myself so need to let myself die to get the achievement. Ending is pretty much non-existent but that doesn't matter to me. Awesome game play and one of my favorites this year. Never could get the mission with Becca to trigger so I can finish that story arc. Not sure why. The dude left and that was it so far. :(

Yeah, my numbers weren't based on reality. Just driving home the point that UL need to eat too.

I do think the actual 30% number is pretty bullshit, though, because that doesn't just apply to MS-published games. They take that cut from all games on XBLA. That's far more than a retailer makes on disc-based games. Just absurd; the point of digital distribution is supposed to be to make it cheaper by skipping all the other costly aspects of releasing a retail game, but MS had to fuck that up in the name of greed.

The original investor needs his cut too. They're probably making reasonable money but they're not getting rich over there.

Of course I totally get that. One thing that we hear is that, IF MS is really behind a title they go nuts with support and UL is super happy. So at least from that aspect it seems to be a good/good relationship currently.

MS has some serious issues internally though you do hear devs who have had great times with them and the recent story that some devs were being asked by MS to go nuts and create games outside the box in the recent years for the One or perhaps for the 360(less likely).

Sometimes I wonder if there are a couple REALLY bad apples in that division...as in personnel because in the end each dev is handled by a couple heads within MS. I wish MS would look internally and talk to those HAPPY and find out why and then make that the defacto. We already know the majority of those are or could be unhappy. Or if MS has all these other issues and lets say they become the only system with this DRM they better turn it up to 20 when it comes to support.

Completed the game there as well. There's so much stuff I never did though and I just went for the endgame last mission instead of even going to any other missions. With all that I've learned though with this playthrough and the experience gained/knowing how the mechanics work I'm looking forward to playing it again after E3 and some patches.

Anyway, it's janky as heeeeeeeell and you can tell it's limited by budget to an extent but still easily one of the best zombie games out there. Thinking about this world, these rules etc in a PC version with mod support just gets me salivating. I'd be happy to double dip on PC regardless of mod support or not though.

Jacob ran off to the diner, in the first town.
Oh never mind, was some neighbor or something. Good thing I was notified before I left. That roadtrip would've sucked ass.

On the plus side I've found two survivors.

lol, the game must have like four models for women. I did a mission to recruit new people, and one of them is just a white version of Maya.

You should get another mission to find him at some point. It took foreeeeever to trigger though.

I didn't even know about this game's existence until today really and the news about how well it's doing. Downloading now. I might double dip for the PC in the future when it's on sale or something.

I'm really enjoying this game. I did start over after I died, a few hous in. Since I understood things better the 2nd time it was much quicker to get back to where I was. Along the way I noticed things were different. Different items, missions, etc. which was pretty cool! I kind of like "janky" games if they have some depth, and this certainly does. Can''t go wrong for 1600 pts if you're into survival sim type games.

NervousXtian

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
This game is so full of jank, but still so awesome.

I can't wait to replay the PC build on higher res, hopefully with mods.

So much tension is built with permadeath.. though I wish the missions didn't come so quickly sometimes.. as I want to explore without fear of having to progress.. but I guess that's part of the point.

It's strange because I had an idea about a game that is very much like this the other day with my brother and I had read nothing about this.

I'm debating whether i should get this or not. Can someone give me three ways/reasons how this game does zombies better than Dead Island? If it seems good enough i'll throw money at my tv.

(Btw i played the demo, need opinions from those who went further into the game)

Well for one avoiding conflict with zombies and scavenging is a lot more satisfying. The encounters are also far more intense. You've played the demo. Did you think that Dead Island did anything better?

Wow, really riding my luck. I assumed getting the Doc for Ed would be an easy escort or something so I headed there without a resupply between missions; man, was I wrong. My wood plank broke half a wave into the Wilkinson defense - somehow fought through the three hordes and fatties with bare fists (and by fought, mean ran around like a chicken with my head cut off while I prayed for the NPCs to do work). So stressful, had Marcus too who I really want to keep alive based of this thread. I love how this game manages to simulate the actual cycle of overcaution - good caution - overconfidence - overcaution that a real long term survival situation would probably have.

I noticed something with the fatties near the end of my first playthrough. Normally I just try and drive a car into them, shoot at them from afar etc. But I noticed that after charging at you a few times, they stop and lean over knackered. You can then wail into them and I killed one very easily. Now I'm not sure how much he had been damaged beforehand but it might be worth considering. I'm gonna test it out myself again later.

I liked Dead Island too, but got a bit bored in the jungle. Anyway, this has a lot more sim-aspects. Like, keeping the people in your group happy and stocked with needed times, gaining fame and influence, moving base, adding to your base, getting others to join you, skills of each survivor, finite resources that don't respawn, etc.

What's this about? I totally missed this story.

It was in a random thread. I just remember being surprised hearing it. Honestly it was about 2 weeks ago and that's about the most I remember. It may have been connected to the Gamersutra editorial from the dev who liked working with MS(A comment on that article's page I mean). I just can't remember but a couple of us commented on it. Not huge news or anything just different news than I was accustomed to hearing.

Found one link to another person who said something about it.

Its not that i like dead island's execution better, its just that that was the last zombie game i played, so i just wanted to know the positives SoD has over it.
