idk about Rocket League's report function man

this one brazilian dude has been insulting me and saying whatever racist homophobic shit he wants during whole games

I reported him three times. I basically said to him last game "you know you can report people now right? enjoy your ban I guess"

sends me this

"SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU STUPID CHILD"

and now he's straight up mocking the fact that nothing will happen on Steam

what a fucking toxic piece of shit

That's not really what he said....

Why do games need to be inaccessible?
Soulsian design just wouldn't be the same otherwise.
Nah.

Dead Space 3 did some really odd things and definitely took a leap over onto the action/co-op side of TPS, but it still had a bit of that Dead Space horror/tension working for it. It was actually pretty damn fun co-op too. I randomly found some other guy on PSN (in SA somewhere, I think; English was definitely his second language) and we ended up doing everything but the new hardcore mode together. The amount of time I clocked in that game was insane considering I wasn't going to get it at launch because of the genre shifts, but Amazon had one of those "get it for $40" basically due to a $20 preorder credit. I think it was quite possibly one of my fastest platinums ever.

Definitely not as good as the first two.
Definitely different.
But it was a solid time, especially with a co-op partner.
Dead Space 3 sacrificed pacing for bro-op, tension for microtransactions, and the whole franchise with that ending.

It's an irredeemable waste.
Just finished Life is Strange. That final episode is amazing.

There's an |OT| and spoiler thread if you want to discuss it at all, FYI.

weird, never had issues like that

also those games are awesome, i played them all again not so long ago and i think they hold up pretty well, the story and characters specially but the combat's actually pretty fun and everything

but yeah it's from an age before checkpoints, at least rth30 and eib

I figured it out, there is a name you can use for your profile that unlocks everything. It wasn't listed on all the cheat pages. The checkpoints aren't bad in the game, they put 2-3 in every chapter and it doesn't take ages to get from one to the next, but this was going to require me to play the whole chapter again and I literally had finished the chapter, it just wouldn't trigger the conversation with the guy who ends the mission.

Finished it up (turned out the last "chapter" was a movie so I was on the 3rd to last chapter) - pretty cool game although it would have been significantly less frustrating in places if you could issue orders from the overhead map - you would know exactly which cover you wanted to send your guys to, but good luck placing the marker in the right place if you were doing it from a decent distance.

Dead Space 3 seems to be balanced around co-op, so playing solo means having to deal with super aggressive enemies with questionable hit detection gangbanging you inside tight corridors until the cows come home. The game does try and mitigate things by being very generous with regards to health items and ammo (and you can even farm them a la RE5). Still, for one person it's just not as fun as the previous games. You have fewer weapons, the pacing isn't great, and it takes those cheaper moments found in DS2 and turns them up to 11.

Soulsian design? That's a nice new word.

But we'll have to agree to disagree about Dead Space 3.

The pacing was fine in my book, I had plenty of tension and never once paid for a microtransaction (though I did buy the DLC), and the ending was rather interesting to me. The real shame is the previously mentioned unrealistic sales expectations along with the dissolution of Visceral means we're not likely to see anything else from the franchise for a long time, if ever. I will concede that the tension could definitely take a dive if you were playing with a partner and that the hardcore mode wasn't nearly as good this time around; also the human enemies didn't quite fit in the gameplay, though they did make sense with the way the story was written.

That's the big issue I have with co-op campaigns. RE5, RE6, and DS3 have huge design compromises because of the online co-op aspect---and of those, RE6 is the only one that really takes advantage of it a few times (while people playing singleplayer will wonder why they're even bothering).

Basically, co-op doors are a scourge and a menace.

Yesterday I decided to boot up Hunted: The Demon's Forge once again. It was to decide if I wanted to try and play it to completion, or uninstall it.
I spent 30 more minutes with it and it just didn't feel fun at all, the combat, the interactions with the environment, the banter between the characters... All felt empty, uninspired and just not fun.
The only positive about the game has been the dressed-like-a-porn-star witch with pale skin and white eyes but that's not enough (and she felt just as empty as the rest).

Reclaimed my 11GB of space and put Styx on download.

Whoa. What made Valkyria jump up to the top ten?

Probably the surge of 75% off coupons that came with those Make love not war bundles?

It's just the right length though.

I'd agree, it didn't overstay it's welcome.

RE5 was the worst of the games you mentioned and that's because the game was designed to be all co-op all the time (that said, it was still a rather enjoyable game, even if it had a bunch of questionable design like the introduction of swat team ganado and turning the later chapters in to Gears of Evil 5). At least in RE6, the AI was better (though it was alright at times in RE5; the worst offense in RE5 was the Jill fight, particularly on the hardest difficulty). Dead Space 3, for better or worse, at least tried to adapt itself to always having a second person there. When there was someone, they upped the enemy count and sometimes tossed new enemies in, maybe adjusted damage/health scaling, but the game was entirely complete-able without having a partner on screen as part of what Isaac was doing and I definitely appreciated that, even if the game clearly played a bit better if you had a co-op partner.

I played through all 3 of those games solo.
I platinumed 2/3 of those games solo and played through much of the 3rd solo at least twice.
As much as I wasn't thrilled with the change RE5/6 or Dead Space 3 made in terms of co-op, they were still enjoyable experiences overall, even if you were playing without a partner.

The good ending, and then I immediately went and watched the other one.

The only qualm I have with the good ending is
concept of revival, with Kate especially for people who weren't able to save her in episode 2.
Episode 5 was my least favourite, though, it actually ranks in the bottom 2 for me. It just didn't hit me as much as the ones before it did, and I guess it felt like a lot less... option? Not sure how else to put it. Linear, I guess?

'Shadwen, an assassin on a quest to kill the king, has a chance encounter with a little orphaned girl, Lily. She follows Shadwen on her dangerous journey, but when the ruthless guards get too close, Shadwen must take action right in front of Lily’s eyes. Will she resort to violence and let Lily witness her crimes, or can she find another way and protect the child’s innocence?'

Sounds good, looks neat. Hope Frozenbyte can stay in business after Trine 3.

RE5 is definitely the worst of the three, yeah. Ashley's AI from 4 would've been better and more helpful overall.

Dead Space 3 might as well have had an AI buddy, though, because of his forced presence in cutscenes. But the alternative was likely cheaper--who really cares about player dissonance in an atmospheric shooter anyways?
Which ending did you get? Good or bad?

Monsters.

Well, just checked my inventory and it turns out the 3rd SEGA promo came with a Valkyria Chronicles coupon (and also another for Tempo the Elephant or something). I bought it.

I got the Valkyria coupon and only went after the first batch of games.

They must be everywhere by now.
Did they write up what would have been in the cutscene that was cut due to the budget?

No. It was just a dev post saying that the shorter one was due to budget, not explicit planning. I can't remember where I saw it, unfortunately.

yeah idk, i like how it's a mix of strategy and just shooter so you feel like you're yelling orders to your soldiers rather than something more abstract

but it's one of my favorite shooters and i wish gearbox would revive it, and not as a shitty grindhouse thing, just regular ass brothers in arms

My first and only refund was Tales of Symphonia, but once they put in 60fps I'll probably pick it back up again.
