Survivor Squad looks interesting. Any thoughts? Am I wrong in thinking it's kind of a real time Frozen Synapse?

I haven't spent much time with FS, so hard to compare. There's a heavy focus on resource management in SuvSquad, almost too much imo and the action sequences don't control very well, while you can pause the game it ends up being a hectic clickfest. And the difficulty escalates fast to the point where some early (randomly generated) missions are almost impossible, on top of that squad members tend to die because of their bad ai if you don't micromanage everything. Not feeling the game after 2 hours, maybe I'll try again on easy.

how is binary domain? i bought it from gamefly or something the other day because it was three bucks. kind of silly as i'm getting it on ps+ this month but ain't nobody got time for inferior experiences.

TBH i hated vanquish as it was just a boring game imo, so i'm kind of scared binary's going to be more of the same lol as it looked really similar, but three bucks, if it is it is

it's cheesy and stupid in a way similar to vanquish, but the combat is a lot gear of war-ish, which imo makes it a lesser game but overall it's very enjoyable if you can appreciate the dumb

That is probably fair enough. But still, I got 11 really good hours out of it (14 Spelunky, 42 FTL!)

Actually, I've played Rogue Legacy more than either Spelunky or FTL. It's not the better game, but I find it much grindier than the other two. I have runs in Rogue Legacy all about finding as much money as possible, whereas my runs in Spelunky and FTL are all about getting to the end.

At least it has a really good amount of content, grinding notwithstanding. I've been playing Eldritch recently, and while I love the actual gameplay, there's only three "worlds" with a handful of enemy types each and certain amounts of level architecture. You have to beat all three main worlds and one additional level in order to beat the game, but since you've seen almost all that a given world offers within half an hour of starting it for the first time, it gets very tedious.

Most people dislike Dirt 3 because it features less actual rally racing than Dirt 2 and focuses more on stunt racing/driving.

Yeah, the rallies are the strongest part of Dirt 3. Too many stunt and circuit tracks for my taste to where the campaign burned me out.

Neither of them focused on Rally anywhere near as much as they should have. Dirt 2 spammed a lot of Rallycross which is boring as hell because they are small tracks that you do like 5+ laps on. Dirt 3 had the Gymkhana and Rallycross, but it also had better Trailblazer tracks that Dirt 2 so they end up about even for me.

Trailblazer forced cockpit all assists off gentlemen's agreement no hud multiplayer is the lord's work though. Shit is divine.

So I bought one of the DLC's for Fable 3, but when I go to download it from within the game GFWL fails to launch.

Did I fuck up and just waste $1.70 and change? Or is it auto-downloaded through steam?

I had to enter the key for it (the dlc) through GFWL in the game so I don't know.

mousecraft just asked me to set a password so I could redeem Mousecraft on Steam, and I just did!

I don't even remember how I got this game, all I remember is that it was free on some promotion, and now I got a Steam key for it. Great!

Biggest problem with Rogue Legacy is not so much that it's grindy but that, in the long run, there's a "right" way to play. You have a substantially better experience by picking either melee or magic and then just dumping all your gold into the associated stats and equipment. I don't even know if a magic build is viable long-term, but in NG++ I was pretty much just rolling assassins with maxed attack, crit chance, crit damage, and full dark armor.

Still, even though Hotline Miami is the better game, I had more fun in Rogue Legacy.

Thanks. I'll pass for now. Too much backlog anyway.

Rogue Legacy is all mindless fun and games until you get to NG+++ and it's impossible to progress because projectiles everywhere. 'Til then it really feels more like a bite-sized IGAvania than anything.

Tempting price for Euro Truck Sim 2 at Humble Store, but I don't know if I'll play it soon enough to bite on it.

So... Do you think Valve will update/make Alien Swarm full?
It would be cool. If they do so, I hope they add full controller support, since the game really asks for that. I have played it recently and it really is a game with great potential.
I'm hoping for this someday as well. It plays quite well with a controller. Just sucks that all of the prompts are keys. I never know which button to press.

4GB update for Xcom:EU? I'm sure it's for compatibility with Enemy Within, but why the hell do I need to do this download if I dont have the game? I'm always struggling with harddrive space so I dont appreciate these kinds of updates.

Just posted about this in the Enemy Within thread, I think that's exactly what it might be.

A 4GB update does not mean an extra 4GB of data. Maybe it's just re downloading things it can't update, like for instance a big huge single-file compressed VO package.

Also, if that's not the case, you're downloading it because there's no regular version of XCom anymore: The game has all of Enemy Within data in it, it's just disabled for you because you didn't buy it.

It's probably the preload for Enemy Within.

Pretty different focus. If anything it is more like an action oriented title like cannon fodder, except with a heap of resource management. The only real strategy comes from pointing your squad in the right direction to gain a few instants of more time.

It seems ok, but I didn't find it that exciting. You are basically clicking around with a lot of micromanaging until you die. It just needs a lot more story or character to drive it forward. As it is it is missing that extra something to make all the fiddling and collecting worthwhile.

4GB download of a game I don't own? FUCK THAT

How do I stop XCom from completing that download and never trying again?

edit: Can I even? Looks like there is no way to play the game without finishing the 4GB download. Uninstallation is tempting...

There's pretty significant grinding in your first run through. Until you've unlocked the more viable classes and pretty near maxed out your HP, it's basically impossible to finish a section until you've grinded enough levels to get to OHKOing base enemies and two-hitting higher end enemies. Hokage end up being very valuable the first run through for this reason. Assassins get good when you get some crit upgrades. Barbarians are the most viable class of the first few because the HP boost allows you to tank through some of the bad obstacle portions.

Quick intro impressions for Rainblood Chronicles: Mirage

So, I picked up this game since I liked its style and wanted to see what's what.

I've only played one level so far, but I really like the art style. The world map of stages to pick seems to fill in over time, so I'm hoping to see some interesting environments. Also love the animations, especially for some of the more powerful attacks.

Story pretty simple so far. One member of a group has gone missing, and you have two different people (this game can be played local co-op) going to find him. Simple enough so far.

One character I like more because he has a dodge mechanic. He can dodge out of enemy attacks and counter with a strong slash. The other one uses these kee (I think) swords to assist him, both in defense and attack (this skill allows him to double jump). The game is stage based and sidescrolling for the most part (from what I've seen of trailers and screens), so no real genre changes or anything.

The game has skills to unlock along with a list of combos for each character in the menu. I'm still trying to get a feel for the game and how it works, so I've been doing terrible so far. The guy in the screenshot up above is the first real boss, and he is an asshole (at least until I get his patterns down). If you try to mash against the boss, you'll get taken down fairly quickly. And of course it wouldn't be a crazy action boss without the boss having stages and changing his attack pattern and attack set during the fight, so you have to be prepared. There was even a mini boss to deal with, and it's a challenge for me at least to be a bit more on the defensive and counter effectively.

Between stages you can go to a temple and buy yourself skills and items for your team, though obviously they have different sets of skills, so you have to pick wisely with your money and spirits you collect in the levels. Apparently it has 9 total levels each with its own boss, a boss rush mode (from glancing at the achievements), and multiple difficulties. There's even a DMC-like ranking system when you're doing battle.

While I'm not doing so hot at the game for the most part, I'm enjoying what it's offering. The music is pretty awesome when the battles are going, and I'm going t work and get the systems down pat to do some actually flashy moves (on purpose).

That's just my quick impressions. You can go ahead and make fun of me, since I streamed it and you can watch me to terrible at the boss :( http://www.twitch.tv/volcynika/b/478933408

I also don't like the money collecting sound. Kind of annoying. But still fun so far!

Join Steam Beta > Limit Automatic Downloads

I'm guessing you can limit updates to a certain time, and then go through the stupid ones and stop those completely.

Hello 4gb update for XCOM.

I don't own Enemy Within, but at least I'll have all that content downloaded for when I do. So a 3hr download before I can play XCOM again. But I'll be ready, I guess. That's great. Hopefully the bug fixes are free! (If there are bug fixes)

Yeah... That just happened to me too. Really really weird. We 'll see what changed when it's done.

I'm honestly surprised they didn't turn it into a full-fledged game.

*sigh* If I'm going to have to download a multi gig update I'd like to be able to do it faster than 100kb/s. I don't know why their system for updates is still so awful compared to normal downloading.

So what games are going to be added to the Humble WB Bundle tomorrow? I'm only really interested in getting the complete FEAR collection. It would be awesome if FEAR 1 wasn't BTA so I could buy the bundle super cheap, all these sales and bundles have me tight on money :(
