You get enemy awareness bars. If an enemy notices you they fill yellow after that they fill red. If the bar is completly filled red they start chasing you. There are also no templars in ACII
I wish there would be a "aww i lost him" after a couple seconds of running away. If you're spootted they chase you throughout the fucking map even if they dont see you

Anyone getting a Dead island four-pack? I'm down for sure if I can get in on one and I still get the preorder bonuses like I normally would.

How is Trapped Dead? Looks interesting. The strategy mechanic looks interesting.

Reading some reviews, it seems to be pretty bland
http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/trappeddead/1376/review.html

" Sometimes your controls just won't be obeyed or there's too much of a delay between clicking and doing, which could leave your character in danger if he or she's wielding a melee weapon, At other times, it just makes the experience a more annoying one than it has to be.

Control issues aside, of far more concern is the life-sapping dullness of the main combat
"

" Unlike Men of War (note:review expressed similarity to men of war at the start), it doesn't have the depth to sustain your interest for very long. Trapped Dead is a good idea unsatisfactorily executed "

Gonna leave this one, the opening line ' commandos' drew me in, the MC score 55 and the review from a website that generally falls in love with any 'strat' games is pulling me away

edit: gah didn't see the OT, oh well

Try putting these

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K0ABQHM1

in this folder

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Atari\The Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena\SaveGames\[profile name]

I think they're just chapter saves. Not sure.

Yeah it's just chapter saves. That's a little before where I was, thank you!

Also I'm using the beta 11.7 drivers which has some opengl improvements (fixes my issues with You Are Empty mostly, but Riddick doesn't even run properly. Forcing 10.1 drivers makes the graphics wig out D:

Does anyone know where Assassin's Creed II save file is on Steam? I'm trying to save it to my external harddrive just in case.

I'm pretty sure AC2 does cloud saves.

Possibly here though: C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegame_storage\

Aquaria finished, second ending obtained.

I had to look up the last few recipes fr that, I don't know why (or if, I guess), they're all not just findable in the game.

So yeah, I think Aquaria is deserving of all the awards and such that it won. It's a massive accomplishment for indie games and for such a small team. It's also extremely pretty and a real showcase of hand drawn graphics. But I don't know, I don't think I could really recommend it. Yes, it's got that "Super Metroid" thing going for it. If Super Metroid had the exact same amount of content and secrets, just in a world that was roughly six hundred times the size of Zebes. And Samus was slow. And the combat was not good. And you had to go to a menu and enter a command every time you wanted to be able to fight something.

The game's pacing is its biggest issue. My game clock ran just over twenty hours. I would surmise that sixty to seventy percent of that was just empty wandering. The game world is massive. But it's almost entirely empty. That's just not fun, as a player. And without a direction, when you received a new ability, it could take an hour to comb portions of the map looking for that one new path (although the game does have a degree of non-linearity to it and it seemed lots of things could be done in random order).

I love the concept of the different forms, but it was really obnoxious to have a single form for combat. Especially in The Abyss when you had to go back and forth between forms to light your way and to shoot things. And then there were like, a dozen costumes for your character, but they were only visible when in the default, mostly useless form.

I generally play games without the need for guides and whatnot. If I needed a guide to play it, it's not worth my time. But Aquaria had one thing I had to look up, a music puzzle. Now, maybe it's just me (and it's embarrassing as I'm supposed to be somewhat of a musician) but I can't really tell different musical tones by ear. I mean, I actually knew what the game was asking of me and there were some clues on what to do, but unless you have an ear for tones I can't imagine anybody figuring it out.

I'm usually not this critical of a game. I have been playing video games for almost thirty years, I'm at the point where I can pretty much tell if I'm going to like a game or not by a few small factors. And Aquaria is a game that would typically be right up my alley, so it just hit harder to have a game that was almost incredible be held down by a couple of extremely prominent design decisions.

But it's not a bad game, don't get me wrong. It's incredible in a lot of ways. I don't want to steer anybody away from it too much. Just, don't go in expecting Super Metroid or pretty much any other game of its ilk. It's a very, very, very slow game. And right now, I'm just not really into something with that kind of pacing.
Interesting review. I've had the game since launch - bought it before it was even available on Steam, but I've still only put a few hours into it. I loved those hours, but for whatever reason I've started the game 3 separate times and it never grabbed me much past the first hour. Still want to give it another shot in the future though.

Game Save Manager is a great program for backing up games. Should be able to find the save automatically and back it up. Lots of options, such as not backing up games that use Steam Cloud to save, and you can save to your drop box folder.

So I finally got around to playing my Steam copy of KOTOR. I managed to bump up the rez to 1080p and it's pretty damn nice. This is why I love PC gaming.

I was curious why Steam had used the steampowered.com domain instead of just steam.com, so I looked it up:

"welcome to steam.com

Steam.com is the former home of Steam Tunnel Operations.

This domain is not for sale."

And... that's it. One page, 3 lines of text. Seems to me it's a company with no information online, that is just sitting on the domain name out of spite? Of course, everyone knows Steam's website is steampowered.com, but I'm sure Valve would like to have steam.com as well.

Surely you don't mean to imply that Other M is also a better game. :p

Ah nice! I picked it up during the Christmas sale and still have not played it. I will have to do this when I get around to it.

I had a lot more fun with Other M than I did Aquaria, but Other M is more Fusion than Super.

It's still a part of the Metroid ilk, unless by "its ilk" you meant derivatives of the formula particular to Super Metroid.

I never considered for even a moment that I'd see somebody other than Alkaline say they had fun with Other M. ;)

Interesting indeed, as the game doesn't really start until after the first hour or two.

I was really surprised by ubis launcher. Earning achievements which you can trade in for ingame objects (altair costume iirc?) and the cloud saves, really neat.

Ben playing that war inc. game for a few hours yesterday and today and I have to say it started off cool but now it's all 1 hit wonders due to the overpowered level 10 sniper rifle, normal guns are rather powerful too. Game turns into a sniper camp fest over the entire map without any penalty.

Least I gave it a try.

Yeah they did some nice things that then got ignored because of that other thing they did.

I haven't beaten Aquaria yet, but so far, I've got to say that I completely agree with him on almost every one of his points.

When i first started out with the game, the sort of mellow atmosphere and music suggested a sort of peaceful Ico-esque experience. So, after the first couple hours, when the game gets fairly combat-heavy, it's a little jarring. Now, I don't mind a tonal shift, but as PixyJunket said, the combat just isn't that great. You've got all these different forms you can assume, and so far (I've gotten a little bit past the part where you get the
light
form) there's only been one that's really useful for combat. Sure, there's another that does a melee attack when you dash, but you end up taking more damage than you're dishing out there. The main attack form really could have used some form of upgrade as you progress, as well. You end up encountering stronger enemies, but all you can do against them is just spam the same homing missiles as always, and it just ends up becoming tedious, especially when you're trying to figure out where to go next.

I never minded the late-game backtracking in the Metroid games, simply because once you're to that point, most of the minor enemies don't really present much of a threat. You've got a ton of extra energy, missiles, and an upgraded main gun. Aquaria doesn't really have that, from what I've seen. Aside from a few minor things that I don't want to give away, my firepower is more or less the same as it was when it started.

Still, I want to go back and finish it one of these days. It's just hard to get the motivation to do so when I know I'm right in the middle of a super-tedious part requiring a ton of form-switching.

I think steam.com used to host some wanky comic, that was a few years ago though.

Ahhh shit, do you not get achievements when you have "Enable steam community in game" unchecked? I had it turned off because of this GTA IV mod and forgot to turn it back on while playing the witcher 2.... fuck

You, uh, should get the achievements just fine. I don't have Steam Community running in most games and I get the achievements, so your situation is weird. You might not have gotten the popup, but does it show as locked still when you check the stats on the game?
As a side note, you can disable Steam community in-game per game. If you don't know how, read on!

Go to your Library, mark the game you want to disable/enable in, right-click it, and then under the 'General' tab tick or untick "Enable Steam Community In-Game" per your preference. And then it's up and running!

Ah, maybe I just didn't unlock any achievments while playing. I was expecting to get an achievement in the Witcher 2 from going the Iorveth path.

Is the Steam Overlay working? Generally, I've found that if I can't Shift+Tab and bring that up, achievements won't pop.

Otherwise, check the Steam forum for the game, there might be a topic there on it.

Hey, so one of the dudes who got one of my gifted copies of the Cthulhu pack never accepted the gift so first person to respond other than Gvaz (and anyone else who paid 1$ for a humble indie bundle) can have it.

EDIT: Nothing there, damn.

I also just finished Aquaria, and while most of the flaws people have talked about here are true, I would still recommend it for anyone who is interested. The games atmosphere is fantastic, and the music and voice acting is also very good. Some of the flaws can also be mitigated, for example, you don't have to stop and sing if you're in the middle in a battle to change forms, you can just use the number keys (1-8 for the various forms, 9 for shield and 0 for bind IIRC). And while it's true that your energy form doesn't get a real upgrade, there are some cooking recipes that upgrade you energy shots, and there are also recipes to upgrade your swimming speed. Unfortunately, these recipes only last 15-45 seconds, so it's not viable to keep up at all times, but it's worth having in mind for those times you want some extra oomph in your damage or speed.

The news post is up but the prices haven't been reduced, but it looks like the Watchmen games are 66% off (making them 3.33$). I heard the only thing redeeming about them is a lockpicking minigame. Anyone?

The civs that come with the game are enough. Not BTS levels mind you, but enough to get you started. If you end up playing it enough and get tired then yeah, you should pick up the DLC civs to keep it fresh.

In before Civ IV vs Civ V comments.

Wow, those new download servers really are an improvement. Installing Darksiders right now, and constantly getting over 3 meg / second download speeds, whereas in the past I was lucky to see those speeds crack 1 meg / second.

God damn, if you like Strategy games at all you're an idiot if you don't hop on that deal.

Hell, I already own the game but I'm just excited for you all that don't have it yet.
