Skins never interested me before, since I like the default aesthetic, but I'll have to see if there's one that embiggens the fonts for HDTV usage.

Contemplating the Sega Genesis 40 game pack, but just wondering if it's worth it considering, from the feedback here, that the alternative is so much better in terms of launching the games and tweaking the graphics, controls, etc.

The alternative is emulation and yeah, of course it's better and more customisable to use Fusion, or whatever. It's just nice to legitimately own these games for what is essentially chickenfeed. They play flawlessly (for me, some people have stuttering problems it seems) and pad support is perfect.

Pixel Vision is still the only attractive skin I have seen. All others are hideous shit. Particularly the compact one.

Last time I felt like this was when my parents were constantly fighting and being passive aggressive to each other. I was 8 then. Everything is coming up... I... g-gotta go mates... it's gotten dusty in this room...

It's just another form of foreplay. ;)

Wow, the "I'm wrong about everything ever" brigade is out in full force!

Look, here's why you're all wrong:

Why? because it doesn't look like the default skin which looks like someone puked all over your screen and has an ass like a minivan taking up all that space?

For those considering getting the Dreamcast pack, the configuration tool is broken for all games except Crazy Taxi (I think, I only have Sonic Adventure DX, but according to what's been said on the Steam forums, the config tool only works for Crazy Taxi), it's been more than 6 months since the release and SEGA hasn't fixed the issues yet.
There's a workaround, which involves the user copying the config.ini file into the documents\SEGA\"INSERT GAME NAME HERE" folder and manually editing the file, but with the config broken the games only detect XInput gamepads, that is, XBox 360 controllers and those based on it.

Oh, and the graphics quality for Sonic Adventure DX is quite a bit worse than the PS3 and 360 versions, it's even worse than the 2004 PC version.

I need a new FPS competitive multiplayer(to complement TF2)...it would be Bug Orchestra 2 but well that game is a beta now...¿the option on Steam is only MW3 for the year? i prefer BF3 but EA/Origin is a xenophobic...

The Steam default skin is very grey already, why would you want to make it even less colourful?

For me, default is fine, although the Pixel Vision skin that was posted before looks nice too.

bitches be jealous of my wolf skin[/QUOTE]

Okay this is the greatest Steam skin of all time. I can actually almost see the man boobs straining against the wolf from the other side.

The problem with some of these skins is that they have some nice looking elements (e.g. I like the list view in the compact skin and the Store, Library etc. tabs in PixelView) mixed with some ugly shit. I think I'll go with PixelView for some time but I still think the default one is the best from a design standpoint.

But why would I want Steam to look like I'm still running Windows 95?
I much prefer the minimalistic look of windows 95 to windows 7 (not arguing the features of windows 7 which is like comparing a $100 bill to a $1 bill) because at least windows 95 doesn't have fucking hugeass UI elements. No I don't need huge goddamn elements on my screen, minimize that shit.

Here's what I think of when I see the default steam skin:

I was kidding anyway. Mostly.

It's just interesting to me because it represents a particular UI aesthetic which is obsessed with providing a container for every graphical element. That aesthetic was really common during the 90s, whereas these days most UI designers try to free things from containers as much as possible.

And I like the huge elements but my PC is a comfy couch PC at the moment :)

I read this wrong at first (without the second PC) and was reminded of a friend whose roommate built a server into his couch. Yup.

If your pc was comfy couch, I can understand that more. But I'm using dual monitors arms length away so having things be bigger than they should be makes me rage when they could be smaller and I'd have more space for everything else.

Yeah the big UI is fantastic for comfy couching it. I even have my Windows 7 cursor so it's about the size of a small coin, makes life a lot easier.

Awesome. Reminds me of the Coke machine at Carnegie Mellon University:

Not that awesome when you consider that it apparently fried once because they were using the (hot as shit) couch in the summer and their sweat seeped through the couch and reached the server. Fucking nerds.

hahahahahaha

Just thought I'd put the word out. I bought Deus Ex HR from here and it worked without a hitch. $27.00, customer service was great, received my key in 15 minutes and registers via Steam. I use to be very leery about these websites but realized the only ones to stay away from are Valve's games and possibly COD. I am not aware of any other publisher that has requested for Valve to disable or remove games from people's accounts purchased via key sites. Also, if they were to do that this site would just refund you the money or give you a new key. Just putting the word out.

No one's saying the skin couldnt be a bit better visually, but its the only one that reduces the bars on the top to a point where i feel comfortable. I hate that big ass bar that occupies what could otherwise be precious actual-screen space.

I also dig the grid view with the icons closer to each other.
