I just had a realization a few minutes ago.

There are children growing up during this generation. They never experienced any other games besides the ones produced in the last 7-8 years.

There are kids using the internet now who never had to endure dial-up.

I had a realization playing Fallout 3 today that it originally came out five years ago.

The current gen knows how to use the internent so if they gave a shit about old games they would download an emulator.

I bet I'm a bit younger than most people on this thread and the first shooter I played was system shock 2. (It was on a best of all time list and i could run it on my terrible computer). I then played a bunch of old psx rpgs and then, after a few years, I finally had a computer that could run Half Life 2-- but I played VtMB first.

Point is, you would be surprised.

Sneaking into the computer room at night to use the internet was a largely fruitless endeavour for me as the noise would wake my parents up, and eventually I thought to myself, "Surely it's possible to turn off the noise", so I dug around the device's properties window and found a speaker setting.

Edit: I should probably point out that I wasn't trying to look up porn. :p I was around 10 or so when we got the internet at home, and since my primary school had to share what I'd now assume was an ISDN connection amongst all of their computers, causing browsing speed to all but stop (I distinctly remember having to wait almost an entire lunch break for a Total Annihilation page to load), being able to browse the internet (relatively) quickly was fascinating.

I like it.

Problem is, the majority won't have done the same thing.

Then when the parents want to use it again, "I don't think it's working, it's not making the noise!" Oh dial-up, you cruel, cruel monster.

I....never knew this.

Crazy stuff. I guess I never really had to do that since the PC was in my room but I can't believe I never thought of that.

That's actually good to know, thanks. I never played the original and didn't realize it was so short. I'll keep it on the wishlist for now and grab the other upcoming stuff. :p
Well if something is like Mega Man 2, that short experience can be cherished for a lifetime even if you play it 20 years late. However, while some may have nostalgia boners for Ducktales, it's just not that class of game.

Shovel Knight might be.

I mean comparing them beyond "pogo stick" is a bit unfair. Shovel Knight goes more for the Dark Souls thing (ie the THING of 2013) of trying to make enemy encounters more meaningful and have regular non-boss enemies that do patterns you gotta learn and shit

they're very different games

but shovel knight is better

its too early for that realization, the real mindblown will be in 4-5 years when there'll be 15 year olds posting here that were born with Steam already available.

Can you link me to some recent Shovel Knight videos? Game has been on my radar before, but I think I want to get some more info on it.

Thank God there is GOG.

What I am getting at is I don't think the people raised on this generation, or even who have been playing games from this generation will even be able to play these older games.

If they have only been playing games dumbed down to linear hall ways and bottom of the barrel RPG mechanics. I doubt they will be able to figure out System Shock 2, how to create a build in Morrowind or NWN2, or how to get through a level of Doom or Jedi Knight.

Must... resist... pre-ordering... Skullgirls...

I already pre-purchased Castlevania: LoS and Rayman Legends.

Dunder has it for like ^$ doesn't he, pick it up...you know you want it

Also, WTF happened to showdown effect, tried to play it on my laptop, nobody is playing, it was SO good

Is the Skullgirl game good on console ? Why don't we get something like Blazblue or P4A on PC :( I dig their artstyles more .

Blazblue is on PC and is crossplay with the 360 version, i assume it deader than the Wii U. Blazblue has being milked to death across 5 games, regular Joes don't know whats happening with it.

I believe King of Fighters 13 has being in the Steam registry for awhile.

That might be true.

Blazblue is on PC. It's just... GFWL only. Such a shame.

Yup. That shit is still mindblowing.

I wanna believe they'll get their shit in order and realease it on Steam eventually. Like along with an arc systems pack that includes some Guilty Gear or whatever.

Oh Japan.

I'm kinda surprised GGX2#R is still GoG exclusive.

EDIT: And they have Isuka as well, hot damn.
