We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.
Have anybody had already redeemed code from a bundle? And what one supposed to do in this case? Just let it go?
Kinda depends on the situation. If you gave away a Desura key and the game was later greenlit, the person you gave it to could have generated the Steam key from it via Desura and used it themselves. If that's the case, then you don't have any recourse.

If you didn't give away anything related to the game/bundle, I'd contact whomever's running the bundle unless they say to contact the developer. (IndieGameStand explicitly tells you to do the latter if something goes wrong with keys.)

The past couple days apparently people cannot activate their Social Club accounts and play the game.

Pretty well documented issue on the Steam forums. This is exactly why I hate pointless DRM.

Rockstar is just making sure everything is going to work fine for Xbox 360 and PS3 users buying their new game GRAND THEFT AUTO 5 on Tuesday available on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Nope, didn't give away anything.
I contacted bundle people, but no answer so far. That's way I'm asking. Contacting developer? Haven't thought of that. Thanks

The PC version of AC2 is fucked and actually has worse graphics settings (specifically the LoD) than the console version. It can't be fixed AFAIK and it looks horrendous. It's a joke. First and only time I demanded (and got) a refund from Steam.

Just look at it:

47016936.png

It's also capped at 63fps and doesn't properly support the wireless X360 controller, but at least it runs well!

I honestly believe the LoD system was set to as low as it could go during development, for one reason or another, and was simply never readjusted.

I own the game, but it does not appear in the collection, only in the Desura client.

You most likely have your games filtered to a certain operating system. Many people had this same issue with Paranormal. To fix:

  • In your browser, go to the info page of any game on Desura
  • In the top right it should say Platforms - Windows, Mac, Linux (some may not be there, depending on the game--screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/hqspMEy.png)
  • Click on Windows
  • All games will now show up in your collection, including Omegalodon
  • http://www.desura.com/collection

Hey now, I've cut back! Credit where credit is due. ;)

It wasn't really a jab at you, but at how some people can be a bit harsh towards those who aren't part of the insular little community here while overlooking similar behavior from those who are on a regular basis. Personally I don't mind off-topic stuff in moderation but I think everyone has the same rights to it.

Well, shouldn't haven't bought CoD4. Can't even get the game to start since it has Win 7/8 issues. :/

Ah, I see.

Tried updating punkbuster. No dice. Don't see a stereomix option in the sound options so it looks like I'm hosed.

I just wanted to play some Search and Destroy, Activision. Why do you have to get in the way of that? :( I guess I'll ask Steam for a refund which is a shame as I was really hyped to play CoD4 again. *sigh*

Are you sure it's OS related? I have played a fair amount of the game on Win 7.

It's either that or soundcard or punkbuster. Apparently it has issues with Windows 8 and trying to run it in compatibility mode for 7 (or hell, Win 98/ME) doesn't work.

The game will attempt to boot, go to 800x600 resolution and then promptly crash to desktop at 800x600 with Windows saying it crashed. Then reset the resolution to my native.

If singleplayer has the same issue then it's definitely not PB. I could see sound being an issue. Can you switch over to onboard audio temporarily to test?

Did you tried to connect a mic and then run COD4?

If I remember correctly, the game had some issues with Realtek soundcard drivers. If you have one, you'll fix the problem easily.

I don't have a mic nor do I have a soundcard besides the on-board for the motherboard.

I'm redownloading the game to get a clean install and see if it's something to do with the older PB or whatever.

Ok just let's make a test, once the download is complete, if the game does not start, just connect the headphones to the Mic jack and let's see what happens!

I remember that there was an issue in which you needed to connect a mic or headphones into the mic jack in order to start the game!

Also you can see this fix: (Post 15)

I have to do that to run COD4. It's very strange. To have a mic connected to get the game to run.

The QTEs aren't as annoying as I thought they would be, though I have only played for less than 3 hours, so that could change. Let's hope the game doesn't take a turn for the worse.

Most of the QTE bullshit is front-loaded, luckily.
Once you've gotten to
Roth and gotten the stuff
, you should be past the worst of them.

Edit: In other news, I finally got my Paranautical Activity key.

Question. Can I change the directory of my Steam installation, without moving the game files? I just did a fresh install of Windows on a new SSD, and have my Steam directory with all of its games on another drive.

I want Steam to move into my SSD so it loads up faster, but leave my games on my old HDD without corrupting the data or the saves, and without the need to download tons of data again.

To make things a bit more complicated, I have also installed Rome II in my SSD through Steam.

I am running out of space on my hard-drive, can I move my games onto another hard-drive?
Use SteamTool Library Manager or Steam Mover. Steam now lets you move your games to another hard-drive (not all games supported)

Maybe I should have read your question more carefully. When installing a game choose the folder you have your game stored

He wants to move steam, not games.

Try this:
How to have steam on the SSD while having the games on either the SSD or HDD:

  • Delete everything in the Steam folder except for the "steam.exe" and the "steamapps" folder
  • Have the "steam.exe" to a folder made on the C:\ drive (C:\Users\Sean\Steam)
  • Have the "steamapps" folder on the HDD you want to store your games (D:\User\Program Files\Steam\steamapps)
  • Make a junction from the "steamapps" folder to the SSD folder with the "steam.exe" in it
  • Open the "steam.exe" and it will reconfigure steam
  • Logged in and BAM! All your games are recognized and steam is on the SSD and the games on the other drive.
  • Now, you can put what ever games you want on the SSD with Steam Mover (or junctions)
  • Create another folder on the C:\ drive and name it (C:\Users\Sean\Steam Games)
  • Run Steam Mover and have it move the game to that location and you are done!
  • Now go play the games you want!

For security reasons, backup your games (go to your library > right mouse click on the game > properties > local files > backup game files). Saves are stored on the cloud, so you don't have to worry about them.

To make things a bit more complicated, I have also installed Rome II in my SSD through Steam.

Since I was more or less beaten to it, I'll just note that you can use Link Shell Extension to manually create symbolic links. What you want to do is right-click on the steamapps folder you left on SSD #1, select "Pick link source", navigate to the root of the new Steam folder on SSD #2, right-click somewhere within the white space, hover over "Drop link as..." and select "Symbolic link" from the menu.

(If you're still using WinXP, you'll need to drop the link as a junction point instead.)

For security reasons, backup your games (go to your library > right mouse click on the game > properties > local files > backup game files). Saves are stored on the cloud, so you don't have to worry about them.

There's no need to do this, and given both drives are SSDs, space would probably be an issue, anyway.

Thanks for the replies, I actually use Windows 7, not XP :)

Also, the old drive is a HDD, it was a typo, I edited it out. I wish I had two SSDs, and if I did I prolly wouldn't care where Steam was.

Backup is not an option, it is a huge amount of data. I will update you when I try it out :)

Same here. Received it last night after emailing them. If anybody else is still waiting on them I'd recommend simply contacting support@groupees.com and they should fix you up pretty quickly.

Hello nice person who gifted me Portal to help me with my kb&m skills :).

It's terrifying to think that there are still people using XP.

I was until until three months ago. I was quite happy with it too. I wouldn't want to go back to that ancient, low spec pc but wouldn't be too bothered if I had to go back to XP. It works and did the job I was asking it to do so pas de probleme.

Wow, dat SteamGAF community.

Indeed; I wish the rest of the internets were as friendly, welcoming, helpful and generous as Steam GAF *sniff*.

EDIT - oh and I had a dream last night that I was banned from GAF for posting something in the 'movie thread' whatever that is. Plus my GAF account was hacked. It wasn't a pleasant dream :/.

When can I switch over entirely?

No, really.

From XP? Right now. Compatibility with modern games between XP and Wine is probably pretty damn close.

From 7 or 8? There is a lot more work to be done. Still, I'm amazed whenever I search through the WineDB, as a lot more games work better than you'd expect.

I hear that installing Linux is hard as hell. I wish you the best of luck.

I can confirm that you need at least a Mensa membership to download a linux binary.

Thankfully I'm in the Giga Society, so I could download a fucking BSD binary if I ever wanted to for some reason.

It really isn't.

You must have missed that time when people were trying to run linux for the TF2 item. It was scientifically proven that it is impossible.

I want.

:p I figured out it was a strange compatibility issue with some of the hardware I was using that prevented the latest version of Ubuntu from ever running well on that setup. Mint worked like a charm. I still maintain it was harder than it should be.

If you ever want a real challenge try starting with Linux and attempting a Windows install next to it.

Shit, I'm doing the impossible again.
I really must stop doing that.
Do they still arrest people for that?
