STEAM Announcements & Updates 2014 IV - For me it was Tuesday

I'm really annoyed that "MXGP - The Official Motocross Videogame" doesn't have an option to pre-load, it comes out in 6 hours and I want to play it as soon as it launches, but it'll probably take me an extra hour or two to download the game.

:(
Why can't every game support pre-loading?

Please post your impressions here. I'm interested in the game, but it being a Milestone game I'm remaining a bit cautious. I don't think any Milestone's releases have had preloading.

Okay, so I just learned about Steam cards and drops, but can I get more cards by playing games on higher difficulties?
Only way to get more card drops is to spend money on microtransactions in games that have them, otherwise you just trade to get the cards you don't have.

Just started playing Arkham Origins last night and was getting really terrible frame rates during the gameplay
(e.g. the killer croc fight)
. They were so bad it's probably more accurate to call them freezes. They were long enough for me to have the thought, "Oh no, my game's about to crash" and then the game would resume. It happened a 4-5 times during a single boss fight, so it is quite distracting.

I have an OC'd gtx 780 and i7-4770K and using the Geforce experience recommended settings. Wondering if anyone else has seen anything like it when they played Origins.

I played it fine with a 770, maybe try disabling physx? Or tone down the AA?

It is a brilliant game.

No really.

It is about a guy sitting down to dinner being all depressed. At first you think it is poor, because of the crap graphics, limited animation and lack of things to do.

But then you play more and it hits you. The guy in the game isn't the depressed one, it is you. You are the person who paid money for Dinner Date. Worse, you sat down and played it and the time you spent on it? You will never, ever get it back.

And we all don't have that much time to waste.

Of all the things to do in life, you chose to spend part of it on Dinner Date. Somehow everything you have ever done led you to sitting in front of your computer booting it up. All the good times, all the bad times and everything you have learnt has come to this.

Now you have to finish it, because it is too late. There is nothing else to do but internally resolve to never spend time playing a game like this again. From this point on you want to start living.

This is why Dinner Date is important. More than any other game, It might change your life.

Bad Rats on the other hand is just another bad game.
Holy mother of fuck, this is a post for posterity.

In case you haven't noticed there's a demo on Steam. I didn't like the jumpy camera or that you get beamed back on the track almost immediately after a driving error. Graphics could be better too, I noticed obvious 'warping' of the track right in front of me and the controls... not a fan.

I have the same problems with lots of newer UE3 engine games (Enslaved, Alice). Try symlinking the game directory to a faster drive, preferably SSD. Or disable any background processes that can kill your HDD read speed (ie. defrag, anti-virus, torrent downloads).

for me, whenever Origins downloaded a patch, it would reset my video settings and crank up my AA settings. might want to check to make sure your settings are still where you wanted them. i also occasionally (a couple times in 15 hours of gameplay) got the "freeze for 6 seconds and you think its crashing but then it's fine" bug

man those deadly premonition cards sell so slow, i need dem card moneys for oranges

probably won't wait for goty this time, to be honest I usually get bored of batman games towards the end, I think the length without doing all the extras are good enough, it's not like they add new enemy variety and the boss fights were that good, didn't even finish harley quinn's revenge.

Unless the DLC offers a different playable character.

Just finished downloading the demo, if this game sucks there's still MX vs ATV Reflex.

strange. Ran fine for me using 560ti 448core. I may have bumped the settings up slightly based on what was recommended.

Sounds like EA, yep.

Finished Breath of Death VII.

Decent game overall. I'm not a big fan of the art style (it has a cheap poorly produced 80s cartoon vibe to it) but the game itself is fairly interesting. I like having to choose between two options when leveling up although I almost always found myself shaping my characters around boss battles when making stats choices by going for the strongest single enemy attacks. Why would I do this? Because, somehow, I found myself having to grind in a 5 hour jrpg. Some of the battles tend to be no joke, you hear?

The game does make grinding as choreless as possible, though. You have the option to initiate a fight anytime within the menu. Combine that with a save anywhere function and the fact that your HP is restored after every battle and you can grind away without much thought.

Another incentive to grind is that each dungeon has a limit on how many battles occur in it. So, for instance, if you enter a dungeon with 25 battles (you can see the amount in the menu screen) you can grind out all 25 battles right from the get go, letting you freely explore the dungeon afterwards. I found this to be a great option whenever I got into a maze-like dungeon (which really only happens maybe a couple of time during the game) and wishing this approach was more common in other jrpgs.

Anywho, if your itching for a jrpg, feeling a bit cheap, like having gaming tropes pointed out in a humorous fashion, and want a short yet fulfilling experience I can safely recommend Breath of Death VII. Just go in with some of the things I mentioned in mind.

Thanks for these suggestions. I didn't have a lot of time to tweak last night, but I'll do some more tonight. It's probably (as usual) something I'm doing wrong, but I'll figure it out.

This is just terrible. No money on my account until April and they decide to put the Batman trilogy on sale which I really wanted. :(

Yup, I still haven't played Batman.

Haha, I nominate this for Post of the Day. An insightful, introspective review of a game that is so much more than it seems.

It's not hard to be better than GTAIV if we focus entirely on the gameplay :p

but yeah sleeping dogs is worth playing for the settings and that the combat was quite fun

Hmm!. . . That Legacy of Kain Collection is seducing me. I've played them all but wouldn't mind a 2nd. run. It's one of my favorite sagas.

How's Castle of Illusion HD on Steam, now that the framerate's been fixed? Are there any other fan patches/mods that can be used to improve framerate or the like?

It looks fantastic on PC and has been patched to support 60fps.

Anyone knows whats in the Arkham Origins Seasonpass? I would just like to have the "Story" missions.

3 skin packs, a (from the looks of it) short prequel mission where you play as Bruce Wayne, and then the Cold, Cold Heart story DLC that comes out at the end of next month. Cold, Cold Heart is $10 when it releases I think.

The game is 60 fps right out the ...box.
It looks and runs beautifully.

Game itself is a solid respectable platformer.

+Zero problems with the controls
+level design is good
+a handful of secrets including the appearance of Donald's chili peppers. Way to tease a Quackshot remake that never happened =(
+The music is from the original game is selectable.

-Music isn't great (there are some great arranged tracks, but the original stuff is kinda bland)
-Overall short length (Less than two hours to complete, less than three for 100%)
-A port of the original would have been nice, but apparently that was limited to PS3 owners.

No, the accepted initialism is...

Hm.

I'd also accept:

Borederlands 2 (which is not necessarily shorter, obviously, but more accurately conveys the product being sold)

Liquid Poop (see above)

Hey hey hey now. For those of use who like shooting and grinding loot in equal amounts (ok, maybe we like grinding more) Borderlands 2 is like ambrosia.

Great to hear. I've got it both on Steam and PS3, kind odd the PS3 ver. only got the original game, but then again Disney still dislikes Steam =P

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
Hey hey hey now. For those of use who like shooting and grinding loot in equal amounts (ok, maybe we like grinding more) Borderlands 2 is like ambrosia.

And there are entire subgenres of pornography devoted to scatplay, too.

No judgement.

But if you're looking for grinding, yeah, that's basically the only description I wouldn't contest with a fan of the game. It's an "offline" co-op MMO.

The gunplay is betrayed by the fact that the weapons suck pretty hard and all your enemies are bullet sponges, but I dunno. I also hate Serious Sam for similar reasons and a lot of people like that game, too.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
So yea...With the Sleeping Dogs collection being on sale for just 10 bucks....if you haven't bought it yet...BUY IT for fucks sake!

Top tier open world game.....as good as the GTAV (with some elements being even better), and better than GTAIV.

it's up there with Morrowind as best open world game ever made

i'm wei shen motherfucker, who are you?!

I actually didn't mind Borderlands 1. Maybe it was the novelty of it.
Somehow with BL2 they just gave up.
Hell it felt even worse to play. The level-design just made it so that I was constantly getting back-attacked. The guns seemed to suck even harder than originally. Also can't believe Gearbox thought having bucks in every single safe/mailbox/toilet/??? was a good enough idea to continue using.
