Started playing Valdis. Definitely liking it as a blind purchase.
Only thing bothering me is that the in game models don't completely look like their drawn portraits but that's not a big deal. The music is all kinds of kickass though.

can humans see beyond 60 fps? find out in the incoming neogaf news!

Human eyes are not digital pieces of hardware. They have limits but these limits are also higher than current gaming standards. 120hz is great if you want 60fps=60hz and are doing 3d. Same goes for 240hz (though that's kind of out of gaming's reach atm even on pcs)

120hz/fps is easily comparable, especially if you have some sort of reference.

I'm glad to hear that you're liking it! I bought it as well, but I have no idea when I'll get to it, since I've *gasp* been playing my new Wii U and I just got into a playthrough of Wind Waker

I know for me going past 100 fps bothers me.
Was trying to play DmC without vSync and my eyes just couldn't handle it. I'm fine with just sticking at 60.

Takes a lot of getting used to but the response time difference is massive. Slap some lightboost on that bitch and you've got yourself a damn fine visual feast.

Steam Mover is awesome.

Had to clear up some room on my ssd since we still can't choose where to pre-load
dammit Valve!
and I really didn't want to delete anything. Couldn't have been any easier. MGR downloading now!

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
It actually pains me to type out Good Guy Sony even when just referencing someone else saying Good Guy Sony.

How do we giveaway a Desura key via modbot? I assume the default is Steam, but I have seen people giveaway Origin and Desura keys as well. Do I need to do anything special?

I have several Steam and 1 Desura I'd like to giveaway in one giveaway

Good god. The power screen in guacamelee makes my eye all teary.

They seriously need a patch were you can remove that shit.

Huh?

My OS is on my SSD -- that's it. My Steam install got it's own 3TB drive. :lol
I'm myopic in the fact that I assume everyone with an SSD has done the same so it amazes me that people have to deal with this stuff.

Modbot doesn't give a damn what key you're giving away, really.

Just follow the rules and maybe make sure you note that it's a Desura key somehow so that the winner isn't confused...

It won't get one of the pretty tiles, but it should still work.

When you get a new power, the screens starts blinking lights and you feel like you are gonna get a seizure.

I don't get one, but my eyes become all teary.

Oh... ok. I was trying to think of what you could be referencing -- I don't even see the screens anymore, since I've beaten the game enough times that I skip most of everything I can to just get to the gameplay. :)

I have the exact same setup, except I have my Plex server running off my 3TB as well. It hasn't been a problem yet, but I know eventually I will need to get a separate drive for my Plex server.

So Amazon's deals go live pretty soon for the $5 credit, and while we don't have the full list of deals (and they will change through the month), one of the currently known games shown caught my attention, and I thought maybe I should give out some knowledge and impressions of the title.

header_292x136.jpg

Final Exam, which will be $2.99 with the Amazon coupon.

I should also mention it's on sale GamersGate right now for $3.40, or a 4-pack for $10.20.
Final Exam: http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-FEXAM/final-exam
Final Exam 4-Pack: http://www.gamersgate.com/DDB-FEXAM4P/final-exam-4-pack-bundle

A lot of people look over this title as of the cartoony visuals, mistake img it with another game, etc. And looking up reviews will lead to middling results, such as Co-Optimis saying the co-op is 4.5/5 and one of the best indie brawlers of the year, or Destructoid giving it a 5.0/10 saying the game is tedious. And I find most people know very little of the game.

Final Exam is a spin-off from the ObsCure series of horror games, which there were two of for the PC, PS2, and Wii. Those games were Resident Evil clones set in a school setting and with heavy teen horror cliches. All characters were stereotypical, stupid, and various cliches of teen horror movies showed up in the game, and many teens died. The game had to do with a type of plant over growing and spreading something strange around... The game was also notable for being an old-school styled horror game with co-op, though no online.

Well, the studio that made ObsCure games parent company was going down the shutter, the team disbanded from them, and then used their own money to buy the ObsCure IP back from them. They worked on a handheld spin-off, known for a while as Project Obscure, but changed the name to Final Exam so fans wouldn't throw a fit the game was too different from the ObsCure series, being a 2D Brawler and all of that. It's still set in the ObsCure universe though, just a lot more cartoony.

Final Exam is a 2.5D Beat-Em-Up with a focus on 4-player co-op, and the studios first title as their new group. Also their first online title. The game is best described like a mixture of Devil May Cry meets Shoot Many Robots, as the combat has a surprising amount of depth to it, mixed with chipping enemies health away with guns, coming in and performing combos or stuns, dodging attacks, juggling enemies in the air, etc. you get a combo going, that is times and resets when hit. The game can get addicting to keep a combo going, especially as points are tied in to rankings, unlockables, and leaderboard, as well as experience. At any time, you can press a button to cash-in your combo and get the points from your current combo, which also resets the combo. But better than getting hit and losing it all, right? Or maybe you want to risk it and go higher...

Experience helps learn more combos and abilities, and as the course of the game continues, you get a good variety of guns, melee weapons, and grenades to use, which all feel pretty different.

The stages have a fun open-world style, with multiple objectives to do. You can, as a team, work with your friends to go location to location to complete objectives, or separate to complete different ones apart. Occassionally the game will throw some change of pace to keep things interesting. Objectives are sort of typical; go here and beat enemies, pick up these items and delver them to this point, push a kart and hold enemies off, escort a character, etc. Stages also have thing to discover by exploring, including new weapons, and extra skill points to increase character stats hidden around to collect.

There's not really a strong story to it. There is some small story, even some extremely brief cutscenes, but no dialogue, and feel kind of like a missed opportunity as the game as a quirky comic-feel, and could be fun with some story humor. The presentation is nice though, and the music is fitting.

The game has the flaw of re-using areas, though. They have different objectives and have changes to them, but in the games 8 stages, there are four locations, and you go to two of the locations three times. There is also only two bosses in the game, and one of them just keeps getting stronger and adding new moves over the course of the game. Enemies are varied though, and usually multiple types of a single enemy, all who get introduced well over the course of the game.

I would say if you want a beat-em-up with friends, and don't mind a bit of tedium (maybe best played in spurts rather than all at once), to give it a shake. It has flaws, but also some charm with it, and the combat is well-done.

My recommendation off what's going on sale from the Amazin thing, anyways.

Ok, so I clearly fucked up somewhere trying to do the Modbot giveaway, but I'm not sure how, I thought I followed the directions pretty closely. So first person to quote this will get a gift copy of Half Life 2 on Steam. I also have three gift copies of the Payday 2 A Merry Payday Christmas Soundtrack to give away.

Just got let go from my job tonight. What a shitty way to start the weekend. I need something fun to play and nothing in my library looks good. Thinking I deserve to buy myself DayZ and take my frustration out on some other people.

Sounds good right? Any recommended server where I might find some GAFers? Not sure how that aspect works...

Sheesh, sorry to hear that man. I hope you're okay financially.

I haven't played DayZ but it seems to be the new hot thing. Go for it.

I just woke up, and saw the games up on the editor's choice list on Amazon and I couldn't help but think woah, what a letdown of a start.

Yeah, I loved the game but at one point I started looking away from the screen whenever I completed a heart or stamina upgrade, and I'm not even sensitive to flashing lights. On a big TV screen it gets a tad obnoxious.

They have that seizure warning when you boot but I fail to see why they had to keep the colors blinking that fast to begin with. They could make it a bit more subdued and it would still be cheery.

What is up with all the Sim(s) stuff? Take that out and you cut the selection almost in half... :/
