Any ETA (besides "lol Valve time") on TF2 for Mac?

I convinced a friend to buy the Orange Box today. He just wanted HL 2: Ep 2, but at $20.99, that basically made TF2 cost just $13. (He already had HL 2, and Ep 1, as well as the free copy of Portal).

Anyone have any idea how it'll run on a Mac mini? I'm assuming decent, but not great, for 24-player servers, and terribly for 32-player servers.
Well . . . he gets to gift out that HL2 and Ep1. At least the HL2.

Random question. Can you buy games on a Mac that are PC only and later install it on a PC?
Hell, you could buy stuff on your iPhone and it will sit there in your account until you get a Mac or a PC to play on.

Pretty sure TF2 will run like a dog on a Mini. Expect ~30fps on low detail at 1024x768, and dip to 10 in heavy action.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that Star Wars: Empire At War was added to Steam. It includes the main game and the expansion for $19.99.

I never bought the expansion, but the main game was pretty fun. It's made by the former Westwood (C&C) guys and it uses the licence really well.

The space battles are particularly awesome, with swarms of fighters, a few frigates and giant capital ships. And land battles can be fun, running around with Darth Vader slicing up rebels or calling in giant, plodding AT-ATs.

It's a decent strategy game, and it makes great use of its license. No cut scenes or story worth mentioning, though. It shares a lot of similarities with Sins of a Solar Empire.

Does anyone else use the Steam overlay to stream porn between rounds of your favourite multi-player game?

Got to say, it keeps the boredom at bay when you're just waiting around. Just have to make sure not to cum in your pants.

It's funny, but I prefer the MOO-like Star Wars Rebellion to Empire at War... mostly because the ground combat was very awful and I never wanted to do it. The meta-game of moving pieces around was cool though.

The ground combat in Empire at War is among the worst I've ever played in an RTS, and I've played most of em.

The space combat however is the cats ass.

I really liked the space battles in Empire at War, although I found the ground battles to be a bit tedious. But I should really reinstall and try playing it on high with my new GPU. Hellishly cinematic.

How safe is the Steam overlay browser? Does it use ActiveX? What kind of security can it do? Can we clear cookies?

PS, how is Majesty 2 and how long is it on sale for $7.50

anyone else is experiencing a sudden fps drop to 13-16 fps in F.E.A.R ?!

Are you using a Logitech keyboard or mouse? The engine had a bug where it overpolled the USB ports with those devices and monolith never bothered to fix it.

If so, go to your device manager and disable all the "HID Compliant Device" entries, this'll fix it up. Just make sure to remember to reenable them when done.

BTW, that is the weirdest thing I've ever heard.

I don't see how you can do anything though . . . the Steam overlay seems largely unavailable when Team Fortress 2 is loading the next map.

Time to read old posts in this thread in which you tell everyone the games you have bought. I recommend the Holiday Sale posts.
Naw, if I read the Holiday sale posts, I'll get feelings of regret for not buying some game packs that I now realize that I should have bought.

Steam overlay browser should be using the WebKit engine now, which is what powers Safari and Chrome. It's pretty safe, doesn't use activeX. I don't think you can tweak security settings for it.

I'm excited for this year's sale. I'll actually have a job and money to buy stuff now. :D

for those asking about Majesty 2:

I bit on it. The GB quick look made it look interesting (even though I tend to hate Dave quick looks) so I was sold at ~$7. It's basically an RTS with hero units mixed with a city-mgmt game with the catch being you don't have direct control over anyone. You really are just a king who sets bounties and such. It's pretty fun and runs smooth as silk on highest settings (looks pretty to boot).

Honestly, I don't think you can disappointed if you have any interest in city-management/RTS games, at a $7 price point. It's less than a console rental at Blockbuster.

I got this || close to getting Dawn of War II but then I thought wtf am I doing I have too many games I haven't played already

on the graph you can see they lost about ~200,000 people who probably thought steam wasn't working

Really?I look'd up a few videos on youtube and it seemed cool.
There are good parts in it, sure. But as a whole it's pretty bad. The first game was really cool and original, and had characters that didn't look or act out of the ordinary. While there were paranormal elements, you could suspend your disbelief enough that it all felt down to earth.

Condemned 2 has changed the character into a drunk that fights magicians, bears, a stupid ghost cult, and shouts birds to death. Compared to the first game it's a laughable mess. It's like they focused on making the gameplay more interesting and remembered they needed a story at the 11th hour. They even managed to retcon in why the homeless people were so violent to you in the first game (an explanation that managed to diminish my enjoyment of the first). When the credits rolled I remember putting the controller down and just shaking my head after what I had just played.

I suppose it's possible that I went in expecting too much (having really enjoyed the first game). They really fixed the gameplay and made it look a lot better, but for the part I cared about most (the story) I don't see how many fans of the first could walk away satisfied.

I asked this in the Alpha Protocol thread, but didn't get a reply.

Does anyone know exactly when Alpha Protocol will be released in the United States? It says the release date is May 31st, but it also says it won't unlock for 1 Day and 9 Hours. 1 Day and 9 Hours would put the release time at 9:30pm PST on May 31st. Does that seem strange to anyone else?

Says June 1st for me (in the US). It hit Europe just this past week though.

EDIT: But then says May 31st on the actual game page. :lol

During a game hit Shift + Tab to bring up the overlay. On the upper right, hit the website or forum link, that'll bring up the browser. Then just use that to go to your favourite streaming site. Youtube, tnaflix, they should all work.

Fuuuck I almost fell for this fishing link. I thought he was making fun of one of the games I have an embarrassing amount of playtime in. But just as I was about to login I notice the .9hz in the link and thought it was odd. And here I always thought I was smart enough to not fall for this shit. Close call.

Edit: I kept hassling the guy and he says he doesn't know what I'm talking about. That his Steam went haywire and he had to restart his PC and someone else must've gotten into his Steam. I don't think he's telling the truth so he's going off my friends list.

That isn't about being smart, it just catches you unaware. Although, it's phishing, not fishing. :lol
