Well I think I've probaly lost the plot. I've now bought 3 monitors in the last month chasing the perfect all round monitor. It's like the CRT hangover all over again. If only I could Frankenstein them altogether, then I'd be done. Instead I'm now the stupid owner of a TN, VA, IPS and PLS set of monitors (though the PLS is going back). Costing a fortune is an understatement but hey despite knowing the tradeoffs between each technology, having them all side by side for comparison really puts things into stark contrast (might even knock up a quick buyers remorse avoidance guide even). Should have gone for that 21:9 LG :(

That seems so incredibly weird. So basically I can get invited to one, but can't start one? (If I'm looking at all the context menus correctly here). Regardless, thanks! That solves a lot of issues with game nights and things.

You know this means I'm gonna make you my guinea pig real quick, right?
After checking this out, I think I maybe caused some confusion? I meant what are apparently called multi-user chats. Like chatting with someone, then you or them invite other users into it? Unless it doesn't show up in the groups tab when I make it myself, it looks like BPM still doesn't support those.

You're damning FO3 with faint praise, man. There's a lot more to the environmental storytelling in the game than you're giving it credit for, in particular. And that post is also awfully spoilerish, especially when you've got someone who hasn't played past the beginning of either game following the conversation.
two things

like i said some moments are very well done, little gems in the game which i actually remember fondly and think represent very well what so many people praise so much about fo3. i can't remember them by name but there are 3 or 4 locations i really enjoyed. with that being said i don't think they carry over to the rest of the game so that's why my appreciation of the full game is so sour. it's a disservice to new vegas to say fo3 is actually that good in environmental storytelling.

now the spoiler stuff, i tried to not be too specific but yeah, i messed up. sorry about that.

edit: btw you're absolutely correct about bullshit invisible walls. fortunately, mods.

edit2: call me out if you don't think i'm being fair but as you know i'm just giving my opinion as someone that's pretty invested in the series. i'm totally gonna be biased and i don't think that's a bad thing, i don't critique games from any point of view other than my own and don't try to get in anyone's shoes and tell them what they would like. i just share my criteria for what a good rpg is supposed to look like and what a good fallout game is supposed to look like. and i just don't think fo3 is one

Does New Vegas have any "necesarry" DLC or mods?
none of it is necessary but it's recommended, specially the four core dlcs: dead money, honest hearts, old world blues and lonesome road. each of them is interesting and unique (they're all different in location, mood and gameplay) and they have highs and lows but they're widely considered to be among the best dlcs for any game ever. they also wrap up a few loose ends from the main game and tie in really nicely.

as jim-jam bongs put it, if new vegas was goty for 2011, the dlc was goty for 2012. it's really that good

for mods i'd say the absolute essential is as with fo3, mtui, which makes the interface a bit less shit on pc. all other mods are optional and while some are very good (project nevada/jewsayer or fwe for fo3, nevada skies or fellout for fo3, new vegas redesigned 2 and project beauty for fo3 and some others), you might want to take it easy on your first playthrough.

i don't follow the fo3 modding too closely but you can ask me for new vegas stuff and i'll try to answer.

Isn't it nice when they put all the games I don't own in the $1 tier and all the games I do own in the $2 tier!

Just saw the 'Microsoft confirms Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox exclusivity deal "has a duration"'

Like I said before, the exclusivity announcement just makes the whole thing stupid, stupid, stupid. Especially since now they gotta backpadel with confirmations like that.

Who (those who don't already have one) is gonna get an Xbone for RotTR? We all know it's timed now, so people who want it on PS4 or PC are just gonna wait. What was the point?

Not for RotTR no. I've been considering one for the Forzas but even that's a longshot. Definitely a pointless temporary exclusive IMO.

I've not checked the RoTR thread the other day when it went up, but it must've def. had some toxic posts and people whining about it being exclusive :p

I'd get a Bone for Killer Instinct but I'm waiting for its eventual PC ver.

MS wanted to attract consumers for the Bone, especially in Europe since TR originated from UK at least and was likely popular in that region too.

I'm calling it now: Quantum Break will also end up on PC. Just like Alan Wake did. Remedy knows the right thing to do.

Sunset Overdrive however will haunt me though. It looks incredible.

Did you use vpn or something like that? Steamguard also considers different browser as device.

It did take nearly two years for Alan Wake to show up on PC though. Glad to have a One so I can play it when it comes out. Some people are happy waiting for years for a game to drop in price but I am not that person :p When it eventually comes to the PC it won't be at full price so it'll be a good opportunity to replay it.

Also, isn't Uncharted 4 coming this holiday too? I can see why SE would want to delay the PS4 release, while getting some Microsoft $$ in the process.

Talking of Tomb Raider, I just got to the bit where
the boat is repaired, after she finds the guy that committed seppuku or whatever.
How far am I to the finish? The game completion says ~68%, but I figured that was the overall collection and completion percentage.

I'm really enjoying it, too. It's the first TPS I've played on PC and it looks stunning. Getting used to playing 3rd person with M+K was a little odd at first but I actually enjoy it more than using a pad, I think. Accuracy and all that.

I'm not so sure. Judging from Quantum Break's USPTO listing, Microsoft owns the game, unlike Alan Wake, which is jointly owned by MS and Remedy.

Quantum Break will for sure be on Steam..

Has Master Chief Collection been confirmed yet? If not I have a draft ready to posted in the topic announcing such an event if it occurs :p

Play TR Anniversary afterwards if you can. TR 2013 is a good Uncharted-like game, but for a real TR experience Anniversary is the way to go.

Microsoft won't comment on a PC version of MCC until after the X1 release.

That's lame. I'll stay optimistic though. I'd really love to play it at some point and I'm not going to pick up an xbox 1 any time soon.

Yeah, it basically is just an Uncharted clone. But it's a fun ride at least, and I think actually some of the traversal and puzzle stuff is much better than in Uncharted. It just doesn't have the charm or charisma that UC2 or even UC1 had.

Didn't Remedy say that Microsoft had to give them permission to port it to the PC? One imagines Quantum Break will make it over eventually, but again Alan Wake had quite a stay on the 360 before the port.

If it sells like shit on XBox then MS will probably want to make some easy cash by porting it to PC, if it sells really well on Xbox we might never see it, same for Halo MCC I guess.

Well Microsoft IP's have ended up on Steam before. Surely QB is not comparable to Dead Rising 3 and Ryse but I don't think this is out there. Remedy knows there's a fan base for their games on PC. Microsoft knows that too. QB will serve a purpose of acting as an exclusive for X1 in 2015 for sure. Just like Alan Wake did for 360 back in the day. Even if Microsoft owns the IP it's completely possible the deal that was made allows Remedy to self-publish the game on Steam after certain period of time has passed. Once again I'd like to see this as a situation where when a deal is being made allowing something like that is a bargaining chip for Microsoft. I don't see why they wouldn't want to allow it either.

Alan Wake didn't sell like hotcakes and it still took quite a while. Still remember getting it and Red Dead Redemption on the same day and being in heaven. Poor timing for Alan.

Yeah. Like I said, it's jointly owned -- Remedy sunk all of its Max Payne money into development before Microsoft coughed up the rest of the cash and used its advantageous position to scrap plans for the PC version. My thinking is that MS signed off on a belated PC port because the game had stopped selling yonks ago and it was a great way to generate some good will -- enough to have Remedy agree to Quantum Break remaining in the hands of MS.

Well Microsoft IP's have ended up on Steam before. ...

Sure, but not any of its own top-shelf exclusives. Even if MCC comes to the PC (as I suspect it will) I still wouldn't look to that as a positive omen as they're all (relatively) old games (or in the case of H2A, a remake of an old game). Microsoft being a wet blanket about the possibility of Forza 5 PC following the DX12 tech demo speaks more about the likelihood of Quantum Break making the jump. If F5 PC does happen, though...

Without knowing how much MS paid them it's hard to know if it was a good decision.

Somewhat irrelevant. Square saw a way to mitigate some risk and take a large chunk of cash up front instead of some on the backend.

I doubt they will have problems moving copies for the inevitable PC/PS4 release. Bad for consumers, good move by Square.

Well seeing as it's an exclusive that means it will sell more than if it was multiplatform...

edit: for reference

I would take any Polygon article with a grain of salt, especially one written by Ben Kuchera.

Question about Steam Community stuff, which I never really used before this week.

Am I missing something about Comment Notifications? So, say I make a passing comment on someone's Workshop project about their item, just a 'Good job, enjoyed the mod' or whatever... I now receive message notifications every time someone else comments on that same page??

Can I turn this off?
