I played (?) like 20 mins of Star Citizen

It's the most graphically impressive game I have ever seen and ran at like 20fps, so pretty much exactly what I expected.

But what good is pretty when you can barely play it?

Not that we play games.
Hey I played games today!
You are playing one right now :3c
Maybe!
I played a few today, too. Tried at LISA again, that didn't go well. I don't think I'm in the mind frame for it. Went to Ground Zeroes again to work at some side stuff. Was a productive time.

It would probably explode instantly upon trying to run it lol.

Oh RIP ;_;. Maybe you can get 10 FPS or somethin'

Still not quite sure what LISA is exactly. Looked like Earthbound but, the way the story plays out it looks like it's a bit more linear than that?

AFAIK , making a game based on 1 hardware is alot easier and have much benefits then making a game with a consideration of multiple hardware and you have to be sure the game will work on any normal budget PC and different sittings and graphic cards
Not anymore.

To tell the truth it's been two console generations it's not anymore, and even in the PS2 generation there was a lot of "high level" programming (that's the exact opposite to code to the metal... high level means closer to human / far from "machine" comprehension).
Middlewares, frameworks, engines, means write your game code in high level language, while code to the metal - should - mean direct access to hardware asm coding, but today it's a term being used by PR as a marketing stunt.

High level language means portability, and in most modern engines it's just a mouse click: obviously if you want to manage graphical limits / options etc according to the platform, you have to work at it, and you can even fail in a very wrong way if you don't know what you're doing.

Nowadays it's pretty impossible to make games coding to the metal... It's impossible because the amount of coding would be something tragically enormous and hyper difficult. The modern hardware is so powerful and the amount of memory is so huge it's not even slightly recommended. Why spending a puzzling amount of thousands hours for the most simple things when you can achieve the same results with negligible differences for 1/1000 of the work?

Obviously you have to thank programmers coding libraries etc, but nowadays programming a game is a very different matter of what "programming heroes" had to deal years ago managing low resources in asm language. Ie, today there are indie games which tributes to old glories that are several hundreds of megabytes, while similar games would have fit a 512kb cartridge years ago...

I'm not saying it's a laziness matter: gaming is an industry that most of the times isn't dictated by abilities...

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to get at here, but I'm pretty sure it's not a counterpoint to what L.O.R.D. was saying about coding for a console vs. coding for PCs due to the number of permutations based on hardware configuration.

What I'm trying to tell is, you make your game programming it using a framework / engine / etc.

You "switch the target" from a console to PC and it works "out of the box" in most of the cases.

- edit

Obviously if you're doing the right things you should enable community stuff (from PSN/XBL to SW), AND you should put a bit of options (audio / video enhancements, controller settings, etc), but many times - especially in japanese games ports - there's just a minimum effort once the game is "running" (low locked framerate and resolution, no adjustable FOV, poor AA and AF solutions, almost no options, etc...).

You don't have to write code for billions of pc hardware combo... the engine / framework / middleware etc will target for you: OS, minimum hardware and Direct X (or OpenGL).

I wish we get more non-bullet hell shmups in Steam. Who's holding the R-Type franchise?

There's a free one right now

DRIFTING LANDS - http://store.steampowered.com/app/322750/

The Demo for it is actually the beta of the game and it has come a long ways since it was first released. You might want to check it out since you want some R-Type.

Also Syder Arcade, a very pretty 2.5D horizontal shooter that's pretty decent. Note that the second hardest difficulty is still pretty easy to 1CC; the hardest difficulty is an obnoxious one-hit-gameover mode.

So Quiet is (spoilers from the video)
Flash+Deadshot? Wut? That's so overpowered that I don't even know why is Big Boss needed for the mission lol

You're a bit late, that video is a year old. But yeah, Quiet seems overpowered. I wonder how useful she will be in a no kill run though.

She aint op, breh, its big boss, big boss fucks shit up and stuff he can totally beat quite cause... Cause... Uh... REASONS!!

Nah but i told my bro the same thing, she probably dies by sacrificing herself or something cause that woman can fuck everybody up without breaking a sweat

I was checking my Humble Bundle account and I 'have' Tropico 3 and 5 in there. It says I should redeem it before October. There's no key and I absolutely have no memory of actually purchasing anything Tropico in there.

Raiden... aren't those PS1 games?

Actually, the first arcade game was running on something similar to original PC AT with Adlib.
(V30, which is like a supercharged version of 8086 and YM3812+sample chip)

Nah man, Max Payne 3 is still on Steam and that is the pinnacle of TPP gameplay. The gameplay in Spec Ops is mediocre at best.

Max Payne 3 may as well be the pinnacle of TPP shooting.
But it's a terrible game about terrible people doing terrible things to each other in terrible cutscenes that makes you hate yourself for enjoying the shooting sections.

Whereas Spec Ops is a terrible shooter about terrible people doing terrible things to each other in terrible cutscenes that makes you hate yourself for enjoying any activity that would result in a loss of life in real world.

So, umm, yeah... Both games are terrible, but Max Payne 3 is so because someone at Rockstar watched Man on Fire too many time, while Spec Ops is terrible because Walt Williams wants you to question why do you really enjoy doing terrible things to simulacra of living people.

Just my $0.02

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I think someone posted an Idle Master tutorial online somewhere or something and misrepresented how it works. Or maybe they just weren't aware.

I've had about 50 people email me today asking how to "Fix this bug" where Idle Master just says "Idling Complete" after they sign in. Some people even included a link to their Steam profile, where they own less than 10 games and have like 100+ hours in all of them.

I get so many Frequently Asked Questions about Idle Master, that I think I'm going to start building an online help-doc and hotlink certain parts of the application to the online help.

Sometimes developing software can be frustrating.

max payne 3 needs to be 90% faster, else it's like playing a tps in slow motion where you have the power to go into extra slow motion mode

on top of that you need to watch a lot of cutscenes

otherwise it's a fine game
