can you upload comparison shots?

360,ps3,x1,ps4,wii u tablet/controller pics next to the steam controller? would be super awesome.

oh and it would be cool to play emulated games with it, if the controller is doing good. i dont have a 360 dongle for my computer/mac so installing the dual shock is beyond complicated and i already messed up the installation of the wii u controller on 8.1.

need to wipe windows to reinstall all of it.

Congrats Kre. I'm super jelly.
When I livestream tonight, I will have a cam feed of my hands while I play in the corner.
When you do stream, will it be on twitch or the youtubes. ?
If it's on twitch, may i have you name so i can follow, and know when you start.

a demonstration of the different mouse and sensitivity settings:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyoGhIsd4Mc&feature=youtu.be

In the first part, the right pad is set to mouse and lowest sensitivity, then I flick from one side of the pad to the other with my thumb to show you how far it travels. Mouse mode doesn't have any spin, so as soon as you leave the pad, it stops moving.

Then I turn the sensitivity all the way up (on the steam controller, not in MGSV) and put it into trackball mode and do the same thumb flick.

The difference is dramatic.

Thanks for sharing. How are you finding the haptic feedback so far?

Finally, someone who actually has the device is posting his thoughts, thanks alot!

This thing is just too interesting not to buy.

uploading a sort of long video showing me remapping MGSV to have a button layout similar to the Xbox One controller, but with mouse and keyboard bindings. What I did was pulled up the xbox controller mappings on my phone, then went to the MGSV in-game mappings and kept that window open, then opened the steam controller mapping window to make sure everything was lining up correctly. I spend most of the time renaming the labels so that, if I need to figure out what button does what, I can just tap the steam button to bring up the mapper. Gonna take a while for this video to upload, though.

EDIT: Youtube says it'll be 144 minutes till this is uploaded haha

Could you upload some Titanfall gameplay?

I'll be sure to give it a go when I llivestream

I like it a lot, but then again I liked the prototypes, too. You have way more control over the haptics in the final version, though.

All the menu screenshots I'm posting are the "simple" menus. They all have an advanced button which brings up a ton of extra options, stuff like spin duration and things of that sort.

I have around 40 hours of gameplay with it and all have 82% battery life left. Plus I can just change batteries when there die instead of being out a controller while it charges for a couple hours.

Holy mother of god. This seems better than the Wii U Pro Controller.

found a bug - if I go and mess with the mouse settings on the right pad, up and left on the analog stick stop responding in MGSV until I restart the game.

That's what i am planning on doing, but i'm gonna map the action-B type control scheme from Ground Zeroes. (i hate the CQC button being on the right trigger)

Jesus.
It'll be on twitch, my name is Krejlooc.

Oh wow, I was messing around in the big picture setting menu, and I found "Add Library Shortcut". Apparently it collects all the main exe's that aren't Steam, but all the text is all messed up on that page so all I see is icons. But that's cool, and you can even change icon images in bpm now, too.

Headshots with ease in MGSV. So slick, I'm gonna upload a 10 minute video after the current one finishes in 90 minutes. Then, after that, I'll be ready to begin live streaming.

I really like this controller already. It's wonky for the first 20 minutes, then it gets awesome.

Wonky at first due to unfamiliarity or due to the lack of bindings being the way you want them right now?

Sorry for another couple of silly questions Krejlooc.
Does TF2 (and i guess all valve games) have native support. E.G. button prompts, official presets. ETC. ?
And how does it feel with them. ?

Wonky trying to find the right sensitivity, good bindings, etc. I'm used to using the touchpad already thanks to the prototype.

Just used my first modifier function. When you hold LB in MGSV it brings up a radial menu with actions, like "Call horse" or "knock," and the same menu is how you interrogate people. Well, to enter your selection, you have to press space bar, which is mapped to X if you're playing with an Xbox controller-like configuration. It feels a bit odd to take your finger off the touch pad to select this, so I changed it with a modifier. Normally, clicking the touchpad presses V, which changes your camera orientation. But I made it so that, if you hold LB, clicking the touchpad presses Space bar, so now I can use the right touch pad to enter those commands, but only when that menu is pulled up.

This is so useful.

Seeing as BPM is currently required for setting up the controller, I looked in to making it run in windowed mode, since I really don't like that clunky interface taking up a whole monitor. Simply adding "-windowed" to the steam shortcut avoids that and doesn't change anything with the normal steam client.

The main bummer is this means I can't use it on my really old PCs or dreamcast or android anymore. But on my PC, I use steam BPM as my main interface, so it's always running. I just played an origin game - Titanfall - with the controller and it works great. For like 99% of people out there, this isn't a problem.

But it's a huge bummer for me haha. Luckily I have two steam controller prototypes, which I can now retire to be my dedicated "old machine" steam controllers.

Is there any onboard memory to load a profile besides the stock one? This has been fairly common for mice with custom bindings, so they are not dependent on the software/system it is plugged in to.

I'll try them out later, all I've tried thus far is MGSV and titanfall.

Krejlooc are you using trackball mode or mouse in MGS V?

Trackball mode, I normally keep my finger on the touch pad at all times, which negates the spin of a trackball. But if I need to quick turn, it's nice to be able to flick and lift my thumb to make the camera spin, then press back down with my thumb when I want to stop spinning. I think, in the end, track ball mode will be more popular because of this.

When steam launches the game, it flashes the controller with new bindings. But as soon as you unplug it or leave the game, those bindings vanish.

So yes, the controller actually does the translation, not steam. But steam is what loads the profile in the first place.

I was on fence about getting the Steam controller about 2 hours age (was wanting Rocket League), but ended up just buying the game. Hopefully more and more videos convince me to get one in November.

So there is no way to preserve/use custom bindings (for use on old consoles/PCs for example) except when explicitly launching a game via steam?

Correct. You couldn't even do that on the prototype - it would load a default binding if steam wasn't present.

You mean digital up, correct? Or does analog up somehow work along with mouse? Remember testing ground zeroes and was not able to use analog movement and mouse look at the same time.

That's not the issue here since it is using purely keyboard and mouse bindings

Slightly off-topic.
I was in BPM just now, and i noticed there's no way to select which HDD you download your games to, like in desktop mode. :_:

I hope i just missed it, but i don't think i did.

*sigh* damm that sucks, when i want to DL anything i'm gonna have jump out to desktop mode, then back in to BPM.

I hope Valve patches that in. *looks at valve employees reading this thread* :p

They used to have that as a BPM setting, looks like it was recently taken out.

A little bit off topic, but on the topic of BPM... I really don't like the new interface when using it on my 60" TV (from about 10' away). It looks great when I'm sitting at the PC, but it's too cluttered and small on the TV itself.
