To everyone getting their controller today: enjoy!!

I've had mine for a day and believe me, that initial lack of familiarity will wear off. Persevere with it and treat it like learning a new skill. That will pay off quickly. After 24 hours of (not quite) continuous use, I absolutely love it. Played a little with DS4 earlier for comparison and it felt very "off" to me.

I feel like this is sound advice and something that is going to get massively overlooked. I'm seeing reviews after only just using it. If I remember when controllers first got analogue sticks I found it so hard, then it just became natural. This is a whole new way to play and it's not going to be natural for anyone to start off with.

I'm going to be playing Company of Heroes 2 for several hours this weekend with this controller. I want to see how good I can be with it. I expect it will be hard to start off with.

Got mine today!

Seems really nice so far, haven't had any trouble adjusting, but can't seem to get the controller to work in Dungeon Fighter Online and Spiral Knights, which is a shame.

its not a controller, it's not a mouse and keyboard, it is it's own thing. Treat it that way and you'll be fine. Just stick at it.

The customization is so huge that it's almost impossible not to find a config that isn't good for you (for example Krejlooc's config of pad with mouse look in MGSV is exceptional and will suit a lot of other games)

Can't wait for the OT!

That worries me my postie has come and gone with nothing. I just have to hope it comes in a van later on.

They messed up and made me pay £3 for shipping as well, not happy if it doesn't show up.

Well mine was a fairly sizeable package so might not come through the normal postie if he has a lot to carry. Also if they charged you £3 maybe they used a courier rather than Royal Mail?

Well I was originally getting it sent to Germany so I presume that is a left over of that but I changed it a couple of weeks ago when I moved back to the UK.

Knowing GAME maybe they sent it to my old address...

Well, someone on FP said it happened to him. GAME didn't ask for address confirmation, so it was sent to his old address...

Anyone in the US know if the FedEx deliveries for these have signature required? Mine's on the truck but nobody's going to be home until this evening.

Amazingly it looks like it will actually get here today. And yet, I'll be gone all day today haha. Still, quite surprised to see it get picked up yesterday, and for it to be arriving today. Just nuts.

So has anyone that preordered at Gamestop in the last few days and was told they could get them today actually been successful? I called one yesterday and they said I could get it today, but when I actually went to do the preorder a (different) clerk said they'll be available next month (on the actual release).

I'm just debating whether to waste half my lunch break seeing if I can get it.

I'd like to know as well. I called 2 Gamestop stores and so far no luck.

I preordered in person at GameStop on Tuesday. I called yesterday to see if the controller had come in yet, and the girl told me to call again Friday after 1pm. Im assuming their shipments typically come in by then.

So I'm going to call before I go to lunch at 1pm. I'll let you guys know what they tell me.

Not me. I went to get mine and they didn't have it and none in the area did either.

I just tried and had no luck. It seems they have a list if those that preordered before the cutoff date, and only have units for them (the store I went to only had one person preorder, so they only got in the controller he ordered and nothing else)

As expected, the Finnish post office has fucked me over once again. Most likely getting mine on Monday or Tuesday.

Is there any way to try the configuration UI in Steam without having the controller connected?

Welp... Guess it's looking like November 10th for most us late guys.

Probably the only hope is if one of them canceled or was a no show. And that's require a wait and flexibility on GameStop's part.

Though it sounds like a rocky "early access" anyway. Still, I'm a sucker for novelty and would've preordered earlier if I was more confident about my situation.

Expected, but still lame. Thanks for letting us know!

I just crashed face first into this list. I went in to see if I could score my preorder from Tuesday; the girl who took my preorder was there. She apologized, said she got an ear full from her boss about it. She said they are firm on the preorder cutoff date (June or whatever). She said even if someone canceled theirs, they still couldnt break that Nov 10th street date for me. She said they didn't get any proper cutoff pre-orders anyways. Mine from this week was the only one for any stores in our area, so they received zero units today.

I actually pre-ordered a Steam Machine last Wednesday, when I log into Gamestop, I am told to pick it up, when I get to the store, they have no idea whats going on. Looks like Nov 10th for me.
Guy at the counter said they are receiving no support from Valve or Alienware. LOL!!! Some partnership!!!
At least the controller came in the mail.

My controller just arrived. I set it up and everything. Didn't test Steam Link yet.

My very first impression; Steam Big Picture Mode is booty buttcheeks.

As for the controller. If you use it as a replacement gamepad for your Xbox 360, it should be perfect. The controller is very good at emulating a joystick on the right pad and the buttons being closer together is GREAT. The thumbstick that people thought would be a throwaway is better than the 360 one because it has tighter radius, meaning less sloppy inputs.

Regarding keyboard inputs, the first thing I tried to do was create a configuration for Valkyria Chronicles (of course). This game is a little tricky but is a good test because it was originally designed to be controlled via controller, but had keyboard support added in later.

After much configuration and some annoyance (for example, "E" puts you in aim mode, but it also turns pages in menus, and "Tab" switches weapons, but it also brings up the unit menu, and the arrow keys walks your unit, but it also lets you change targets quickly while aiming. So you want to make sure the buttons are in common sense places.) I managed to create what I feel is an excellently serviceable config that mimics the more tight keyboard and mouse controls the game has to offer. So that's great on that front, and I made it Public, so feel free to try it out though I didn't see anywhere to download configs from.

However I don't think I will use this for games that play nice with a keyboard (like Killing Floor 2) merely because I still enjoy using mouse and keyboard, but if you're a Steam Link gamer I feel like this controller is very much worth the purchase... especially once more friendly configs start getting out there.

I got my steam controller in today, played pretty good on 8bitboy though it seemed to conflict with the system default of emulating a keyboard and mouse. I turned 8bit boy in desktop mode first then switched to big picture to try to fix it tough still had that weird conflict when it worked correctly it worked like a champ ymmv.

Tried to play umehara with it and christ that was awkward.

Played some KOF 98, used the stick as the dpad, threw hao-kens like nobody's business tried to emulate the dpad on the track pad that didn't turn out so well...

I haven't put a whole lot of time into it messing with control profiles, but so far it's very hit and miss.

Ok, so i got the steam controller and link now. However when i plugged the controller in the link it tells me i need to plug it into my computer for a firmware update which i did. I however dont see a firmware update. Anybody know how to do this?

EDIT: nevermind, i turned off the link and then when i turned it back on as my controller was connected to my PC and it popped up. So for everybody else, plug your contoller into PC before connecting it to Link.

Got my Link and controller today as expected, so just curious, is there a tutorial for the controller or a specific game people recommend to get the hang of it?
