STEAM | December 2014 - Read OP for winter sale questions

They are talking about the tranfer process in the update though. What I'm not sure about, are there GFWL-only copies of Dark Souls? Or did every version activate on Steam anyway? That might decide what happens to the keys.

I activated the retail version on my steam account before. Dunno what that does tell you. Maybe we won't see free copies like with SF4 again.

So is there any reason for me to wait to craft a badge? Are we expecting anything else meta-game related during the winter sale?

As soon as the game launches it does the loading and brings me up to that screen. It doesn't let me do anything tho.

I'm running a round of backup of all my save games (to save the latest dark souls save) and I'll try to run it after, so somebody will help you before me though.

This will be my first winter sale as a PC owner. How do you guys normally handle it? Do you set a budget and stick to it? Do you make a list of games you want?

An important thing to remember and keep in consideration; there will be another sale in several months. You don't have to try and grab everything at once.

The bids are increasing, at least in the obscure indie games where I am hoping to win something, I have dropped on most of them, maybe the people who can not win in the popular ones will come looking for indie games :/

Well, I don't need to be level 81 as I'm 17 friends shy of my limit, but I'll hit <10 soon enough, at which point I'll spend a few bucks and move to 85. The annoying thing is that I'm no longer in the zone where you can move forward a level by maxing out a badge (IIRC, it's 700 XP between levels now).

It didn't last all that long. :( I went ahead and ordered the router. Even if it doesn't entirely fix my stability issues, the boost in wireless range/performance will be welcome, plus since it has a LAN port that doubles as a WAN port, I won't need to buy a replacement should I find myself on a fibre connection in the not-too-distant future.

Aw. Well, atleast you get a good(?) router out of it! What'd you go for? I've personally had some great experiences with both Cisco and Linksys, and my current is... Wait for it... A Cisco-Linksys one! :p

And dat sweet, sweet fiber... I'm getting 90/90 in like... Fuck, two, three weeks from now? It'll sure beat the 1/1 I've had the last few days :/

And if you need cards, you can just shout. I often have some extras that I don't mind parting with! :p

Are there any good $.04 or $.05 backgrounds or emoticons to pick up?

If you mean for gems, the best rate currently is $0.07 for 80 gems, and there's tons of those around. You might find some $0.05 for 60 gem ones if you dig.

Bots have alreaady scoured the market vacuuming up everything cheap.

Don't blame bots :p We humans did just fine of a job long before bots ever had a chance.

will there be an actual sale or just these auctions this year?

Read the auction page, your answer is there.

Is there a way to filter the auctions by your wishlist by chance? Or at least remove games you own?

No and no. The problem with the latter in particular is that Valve didn't use the app ids for the auction ids -- CS:GO, for example, has the app id of 730 but the auction id of 443. It would be possible to put together a scraper that matches auctions to their app ids, but with the auction system being a relatively brief affair, it'd probably be more trouble than it's worth.

I'm slowly starting to sell, can't imagine they'll go much higher. But I'll certainly keep some, who knows if the sale will bring a meta game you'll need them for.

edit: Okay, already higher than I sold my first batch for. :)

Most of the games I wanted to bid on actually dropped drastically (50% or more), but there's a few that actually went up. What. The. Hell.

Also. Why the hell are people still bidding so much of CS:GO?!?

Damn can devs stop with those Remasters already? I mean as a PC gamer i am pissed when i see 1-2 year old game getting Remaster version and you need to pay for upgrade and often bugfixes. Also that proves developer could make better version but it didn't. And all of this is happening because PS4/X1 are not backwards compatible.

Dark Souls has Steamchievements! Oh what a wonderful day! This could very easily bring me back in to wanting to play my NG+ now!

CS:GO is weird haha. Even the booster packs that you buy with gems is like 1200 gems with a CS:GO pack, and those cards are worth jack shit.

So Dark Souls is knackered again and having to back up my stupid bosses emails are more than likely get my computer infected. Oh what a happy day.

I think we'll definitely see this in Enhanced Steam, especially considering that the CSS is labeled as "skin_1". I strongly suspect that Valve will continue to introduce new "profile skins", likely as a reward for gem recycling and they'll probably be marketable.

I'll probably just add a feature to the "edit profile" page similar to the custom backgrounds, where you'll be able to select a custom theme. Once selected, everyone that visits your profile page will see the skin.

Nice. I hope Valve don't get the hump but then again they've been stealing your ideas for yonks so fair is fair :p

so ya guys, good luck getting those games for hundreds of gems. Watching as bid increased twice over initial top bid, when it was already insane, was sobering experience. I'm not sure it's even worth the effort at this point.
BTW anybody won their auction?

Elaborate please, what's being improved?

from this thread:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=952543

Uprezzed Graphics — Including textures, characters, and cinematics.
New Skins — 2 new character skins. Devil May Cry 1 Dante and Classic Vergil.
Turbo Mode — Turbo Mode returns to the Devil May Cry series, with the game running 20% faster in this mode.
Hardcore Mode — Hardcore mode retains the experience of DmC, but with a throwback to the classic Devil May Cry games in terms of balance. In this mode, which can be toggled on all difficulty levels, the style system has been rebalanced to make ranking up much harder and ranks deteriorate much quicker. In addition, Devil Trigger doesn’t launch enemies into the air, parrying takes more skill, and all enemies hand out more damage.
Manual Target Lock — We’ve seen more requests for this than any other feature! The manual target lock works as closely to the classic Devil May Cry lock on as possible and has fully configurable controls.
Vergil Bloody Palace — Only second to Manual Target Lock in terms of the number of fan requests! This is a new Bloody Palace mode featuring 60 levels and Vergil as the playable character.
Must Style Mode — This is a hardcore modifier on an epic scale that can be played over any difficulty level. Players must be at an S rank or higher to deal any damage to enemies.
Gods Must Die Difficulty Mode — This is DmC Definitive Edition’s hardest difficulty mode. It takes DmC’s ridiculously hard Dante Must Die mode and adds a touch more punishment: All enemies spawn with Devil Trigger active and no items or health drops can be used.
Rebalanced and Retuned — We’ve studied fan feedback and made a whole host of tweaks and balance changes. The style system has been rebalanced, as have bosses. Exploits have been fixed in combat and some of Dante’s moves rebalanced, such as the Demon Evade. Gameplay tweaks have been made following hardcore player testing; frames have been removed from Kablooey shots, Parry/Evade windows adjusted, and collectibles, keys and doors redistributed.
Integration of Popular Community Mods — DmC Definitive Edition includes community mods such as an optional timer disable for Bloody Palace Mode, a triple dash for Angel Evade, and the ability to hit red and blue enemies with any weapon.
New Cutscene — an added cinematic scene that never made it into the original.

Also thanks to JaseC for all the games you don't want to get thanked for.

I'm trying to think of the best way to describe us. Either as piglets suckling games from JaseC's teets or barnacles attached to JaseC the Whale.

YNAB usually only goes on sale near the end of the sale, to rub it in.

First, you buy You Need a Budget. Then everything will fall into place.

I love it when YNAB goes on sale in the Steam Sales, it's such a good meta-joke.

Sounds pretty good actually. Definitive edition seems pretty apt in this case, though I would have gone with "The Game We Should Have Made in the First Place Edition". These changes better come to the PC version.

You mean as in a free patch or a different release?

Because the latter seems more possible than the former.
