STEAM | December 2014 - Read OP for winter sale questions

For now, it is only available in the 20th anniversary bundle, of which only a little over 12,000 are being produced.

You are right, it does look completely different.

mmm yeah hold it right there

There is a current promotion that is giving away the license of the full AVG antivirus suite free for 4 years.

Here is the activation key:

^_^

-----------------------------

1.Download and install the free version of AVG. (You can get it directly from the developer or from CNET's download section)
2.On the upper right corner of the client window there will be a support link. Click it.
3.Click on the Reactivate button to the right side to bring up the input box.

Oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap! I actually went ahead and did it...

I ordered a new gaming PC!

4690K/GTX 970 and so forth

first time building a PC yikes

Just think of PC building like you're playing with grown-up Lego. Very expensive and fragile Lego... that only go in specific spaces... and might catch fire... anyway, you'll be fine, it is really straight forward, congrats on the new setup and good luck with your build. :D

I know I'm the minority, but man, I've despised the PS control since the PS1.
So uncomfortable to me, and the fact that my hands cramp together. I hate it.

I was glad when they showed the "boomerang" controller for the PS3, but they changed it back. I guess some players are afraid of change.

The best controller ever is Gamecube's Wavebird!

Non anime from please!

I need to go pick up a case and a ssd and a hdd and then I am all set (in 1-3 working days)

edit: ^^ lawl

SSD:
Samsung 840 Evo/Pro or Intel 730 series

Nothing less than 240GB which you should be able to pick up for around US$100.

I just picked up two yesterday off of Craigslist.

They have seen some hard times though, will need to do a thorough cleaning and replace the thumbsticks.

That...sounds disgusting. Did you know they were in need of repairs/cleaning before you bought them?

Nope, the ad picture was super blurry. Probably for that reason.

The main value of those controllers seems to be in the receiver, which these had. If you have the receiver, then picking up standalone Wavebirds is significantly cheaper. I'll go ahead and clean these, replace the thumbsticks, and then asses where they are at.
If you are serious at all about collecting classic games, then you already have a Triwing screwdriver on hand.

I am incredibly amused by the fact that so far, every time I looked at the Steam broadcast page, the top stream was either anime or porn.

Three girls should have been 4K, Steam, and 60 FPS with the last shot being the cologne with PC emblazoned on the front. Would have been perfect that way.

4K? 60fps? Pfft! The sky's the limit! (well your hardware but whatevs)
Funnily running DMC 4 at 1920x1080 my framerate went so high the whole game became unstable and at about 800, yes 800fps I couldn't tell what was going on there were so many rendering errors.

Can't go wrong with Crucial's MX100.

Yep, MX100 256GB + WD Blue 1TB is on my list. My current laptop has 750 gigabytes of storage (not to mention pretty much unlimited OneDrive space) and I am not even close running out of it, despite having 40 (unplayed :p) games installed. I buy all of my music in physical format and watch most if not all movies etc. from Netflix but still I am wondering if it would be better to get the 512GB just... because. It's 221 euros at my closest store though.

That's awesome. I guess when I get round to DMC4, I'll give 8k a shot :p

Thanks for all the answers. I would use it for recording and I'm on an AMD GPU so Shadowplay is not an option.

Now that I think about it, the real problem is the size of the recorded file. I don't know what to do to compress it without loosing quality

I have a 7850.

What you can do.

1/ Use AMD gaming Evolved app (bundled with drivers) to use your AMD card to record or broadcast.

2/ if you have a Core Ix, you can use quicksync with either OBS/MS afterburner/Action to record or stream (it will use the sleeping HD card on your CPU)

I do 2/

Hey, now comes a dumb question:

I want to get my new PC on wifi because there's no way that I could realistically get it connected to my router otherwise. What should I buy? It sounds dumb but I have never connected a desktop PC via wifi

Speaking of that image, if I had the authority, that "why not both" would be a 1 week ban. Its so annoying when you see someone ask something like "should I get a or b?" And then 1 of the first comments is why not both. If he or she could afford both they wouldn't be asking.

Man, DMC4 is a crazy optimized game, I'm so glad Capcom learned how to port their games to PC <3

Craiglist is used for other than setting up orgies?

Good luck on the Wavebirds, such a great controller.

I've amassed a massive amount of GBA, SNES, GC, and PS2 games off of Craigslist. Great way to pick up games cheaply if you are patient.

Sounds good to me.

During that time period they were also going full GFWL. One step forward, two back.

The appropriate action is to post the opposite. :p
I have no idea what you had in store... but I went and found this to make up for it:

And even better would be that asking would be at least a month ban, if not permanent.

You either want a USB wireless dingle or a pc card wireless card. I have used both and none seemed better than the other. Usb 2.0 could throttle though depending on your Internet speed. USB 3.0 would be good.

First of all, wireless sucks.

That established, you need a wifi card, unless your mainboard integrates it already (which is rare). Alternatively you can get a USB adapter, but they often suck (on top of the inherent suckage of wireless data transmission). If you go USB, read reviews before selecting one.

That's actually exactly what I would have posted.

You can get wireless cards for your PC or a USB wireless adapter. If your router supports it, I recommend getting a card that supports wireless N. Alternatively, you can look into power-line adapters that do ethernet over your power sockets. Black magic stuff there, but it works.

Well it's a toss up between that or 3840x2160@120hz which is super awesome. Saying that even when I had just 1 480 I could pull off 1920x1080 and almost keep 120fps. MT Framework has some cracking performance. Shame I hit the VRAM wall with RE5 way before the power wall.

Oooooorr get some of these (powerline adapters in general not necessarily these ones).
