Regarding Source 2 licenses and plans, this is what Garry speculated

Everything I've heard from Valve is that they're not licensing out the engine like they did with Source 1. They're in the process of shutting the current licensee program down.. we don't even get updated code for Source 1 anymore.

Until there's more details about Source 2, the moddability, what games are on it, licensing terms.. I'm not going to start promising anything. I wouldn't be surprised if Valve have already made their own version of GMod.

My best guess is that they're not going to license it because they're going to release it for free and let people release games on Workshop/Steam as part of the engine.. with a profit share.

They're obviously going to support modding and licensing in some way.. probably just not in the old way of paying $500k for a license or whatever people paid.

I am 100% sure that they have to be looking at Unity, and Unity's Asset Store and be thinking of how Steam and Workshop are set up to re-create that situation.. and push it to the next level.

Oh, absolutely! I meant more in terms of their own adoption. Right now there's a lot of buzzing about in the Valve offices and Source 2 is undoubtedly one of them. But if they did show off Source 2 in the way I said, and then whatever the flagship title they're currently building up to be the big showpiece for the engine as a commercial product ends up hitting further delays, it would strike against Valve's "philosophy" they've stated in the past regarding S2 and not wanting to show it off until something is ready to ship with it.

Ah, right.

That second post is a sound theory. It's basically an extension of what Valve did with Facepunch when Gmod hit Steam as a commercial product.

Just picked up Hand of Fate, and Grow Home. I know nothing about Grow Home other than it's apparently an awesome game about climbing. I love me some climbing.

Say that again after constantly pressing L and R for hours.

Write a macro to map one button press to toggle a script that automatically inputs L and R button presses with a delay of 0.5 seconds?

The good old days of autoclickers in maplestory allowed me to do many a kerning pq in a row. That was probably my first ever code not part of a school assignment too.

For glNext there will be Frostbite, Epic and Unity to show off things. Valve isn't going to upstage and steal the spotlight from Khronos. Because a Source 2 demo would be that, as its still not properly revealed, or hell, announced even.

For VR there's always existing games or the Valve VR room short demos :p

Stop crushing our dreams and hope!!! XD

SteamGAF Karaoke would be so much fun! I'd love to get Rock Band 4 or whatever Harmonix calls it on Steam so we could do harmony vocals without a care in the world.

I can understand tailing missions in AssCreed having a maximum distance allowed between yourself and the target, but the fact it also applies when you have someone following you is rather silly.

I have never actually tried singing seriously in my life so that would give me an excuse to finally do so :p
get drunk + karaoke is pretty good embarrassing

i'm confused why they keep making those types of missions

you'd think at this point they'd get that slowly walking while you're not allowed to parkour or murder people is no fun

I spent all weekend losing my voice singing in Rock Band for the first time in years, so I'm in a really big singing mood! If only Harmonix would finally give PC some love with their mainline stuff too. ;-;

i wonder how titanfall would've done with a payday 2-like business model.

like cheap game at like $20/30 with tons of dlc

i mean to a degree it can't be done because payday is like, whatever, who cares if the other guy has a better gun since he's still helping you, while titanfall would be like "fuck that pay 2 win shit!" but you know, paintjobs for titans and special titan voices and cool suits for your guy and pink jetpack smoke and shit

and like a constant stream of dumb stuff for people to buy and keep them interested in the game

it's sad cos what i played from it was totally awesome but i can't ever decide to buy it cos i hate paying for maps

some of the reactions to the Valve news is hilarious

gamers: "Who even cares? Valve, gives us a game already!"

devs: "hmm, sounds exciting!"

I wasn't counting, something around 20 hours. Shorter than previous playthroughs but I've done more quests this time.
Didn't kill Letho, because I caught a glimpse of him in Witcher 3's trailer.
20 hours is pretty alright

will try do my own playthrough soon, although i'm scared i won't even be able to run witcha 3

and i think
i'll still kill him cos that's what i did on my first playthrough and it just felt like the right ending

(spoilertagged that just in case)

Considering I never really got Monster Hunter before, 4U seems to have got it's hooks into me. Maybe I finally understand/enjoy the Explore > Collect > Spend > Improve cyclical game loop now.

Hey, does anyone have extensive experience with a 144Hz monitor?

Some questions...when you're playing with Vsync, if you can't hit 72fps, it effectively drops to 48fps right?

Do games have issues with this? If a game caps at 60fps in engine, do you experience constant tearing or wacky controller response? Are there a mess of games that just plain have issues running above 60?

I'm thinking about one, but I'm not sure I'm ready to deal with the possible headaches.

To be fair when I used a 120hz monitor I never bothered with vsync as at that refresh I didn't find tearing that much of a hassle. Hard to say if you'll be the same way with out experiencing it first hand but when capping the framerate I would use something like 61 or 62fps which would usualy sort out any framepacing issues and more importantly not leave a static tear line in one place on the screen. Of course if you're not using SLI or Crossfire using one of the bazillion borderless fullscreen applications out there (if the game doesn't support it naturally) and you get triple buffering without syncing with your monitors refresh rate via the magic of Windows Composition.

New raid mode gameplay wirh Barry from Revelations 2

https://youtube.com/watch?v=ZEnXMXq3C2g

Looking good to me. Seems to be fixing the gripes I had with Raid mode in Rev 1. I'll be back a few days before the second episode so I won't be missing much. Hope the vita version is good with all the content. Will be double dipping on this more than once.

Be interesting to see who the extra Raid mode characters are. There's still a few more to be announced. Well that and what whacky costumes they have too.

If the guards (around 8) had followed me down here I'd be so angry right now.

In Unity when ever I get spotted the first thing I do is leg it to the nearest roof. Then laugh at my pursuers as they have seemingly forgotten how to climb upwards.

I had no medicine bottles left and didn't want to risk being shot... and also thought that I'd unlocked the front door in the opposite building, haha. Just as well there's a merchant nearby as otherwise the mission would be completely impossible to finish solo, and fortunately that was my third run through, so now I've unlocked all three rewards and don't have to do it ever again.

For a lot of people, Half Life 3 just isn't a very exciting prospect any more. The market (and Steam's user base in general) just isn't what it was when HL2 was released.

I hate shooters in general...but HL2 had the gravity gun.

I'm still ready for a polished shooter with the portal gun or the <dont know yet gun>. Basically I'm still prepared to be blow away.

Or it could just be like Portal 2 and mostly phone it in. It might also not exist. We'll see.

Ohhhh, one of the Co-Op missions? I hate those. The game congratulates you one a job well done of completing the objectives, not getting spotted and doing it in double quick time and then only gives you one pesky reward and then expects you to want to replay it a couple more times to get the other rewards.. All I wanted was the swag Tailored Arno coat game, why you got too be so stingy?

The other co-op missions I've completed thus far were fine, but that one (Women's March) definitely had me thinking it'd be a lot easier with more people.
