I went over budget due to some impulse buys. Spent around $80 total I think. Not going to list everything, but will post highlights:
Risk of Rain - Picked up a handful of rouge-like games during the course of the sale and this is easily the standout. Still working on unlocking classes, but so far they seemed pretty varied and add an interesting element to the gameplay. The music is also fantastic. Still on sale at the humble store for another 24 hours or so for those who missed it during the steam sale.
Volgarr The Viking - Got it from the humble store as I don't think it ever had a featured sale on steam. The difficulty curve is brutal and death is constant, but with some persistence you gradually learn and adapt your way towards mastery of each stage, which feels incredibly satisfying. They really nailed the aesthetics of this game too. It truly feels like a long lost Genesis title.
Brothers - It was tempting to hold out for it to hit PS+ next month, but I decided I wanted to play it now while GOTY discussions were underway. While it wasn't the life changing experience it was talked up to be, it was quite memorable nonetheless. The controls did allow for some unique twists on the same puzzle/platforming tropes we've seen time and time again, and it was just the right length for the gameplay to avoid going stale. Certainly didn't hurt that it was also straight up gorgeous to look at too.
Cook, Serve, Delicious - This was a pure impulse buy based off the hype in the Steam thread. I had no idea what I was buying, but it quickly became my most played game of the entire sale and I haven't been this hooked on a casual game since the original PvZ. I even bought the iPad version to play on the go. Doesn't look like it will come back around on sale, unfortunately.
Lowlight:
Stanley Parable - Not really sure what I was expecting with this, but it was another game I wanted to experience for myself while GOTY discussions were ongoing. Played through 2 of the scenarios, and sure they were sort of amusing, but definitely not $9 worth. Even with the FOV all the way up, the game gave me really bad motion sickness for the short amount of time I spent with it. Probably won't be revisiting it.
