It's been a while since I heard anything about the Steamworks update for Resident Evil 5 and Dead Rising 2. Do we have anything more specific than the initial "early 2015" time frame?

Didn't they say when it comes over to Steam it'd be the gold edition or whatever version comes with the Lost in Nightmares DLC that PC never got? I remember hearing something about that.

I could gift it to people, since I am currently in China. One thing though is, I first need to check how to pay there. I know I can pay with a CC, but actually I do not want to use my CC for these things.
Paypal doesnt work sadly with Steam here, since my PP is registered on my german adress and when I try to buy it with them, it shows the PP contact adress is different from my current steam adress.

I'd be interested if you get it sorted. I have paypal.

I would do that. The problem is, that my Steamwallet is in € but the currency in China currently is US $. So I can not buy anything with my steamwallet.

If you manage to sort something out, do let me know. Interested in grabbing a steam copy, but the markup was putting me off.

I have no idea. I'm really hoping that they'll take the opportunity to finally port the Gold Edition DLC but I haven't heard anything official, only speculation.

Will do that. First I figure something out this evening. I could buy it easily with my CC, but I tend to lose track of my finances if I do that.

You can create a new paypal account in china, send money over from your german paypal, then purchase stuff from a new dummy china steam account?

Lol that's so complicated

You are dead to me

Its no problem. But my Steamwallet is in €. Thats the problem. I can not buy something with € that is in $ in the chinese store.

I also would love to do it, because if I sell those for like 35$ somewhere else, I could buy the game for myself after 6 gifts :D

I've actually not tried buying anything from other steam store regions. Usually if I'm away it's somewhere in Europe but since if anything their prices are worse it was never worth the effort to bother.

A quick google suggests adding funds to your account using your browser on the regions store works, but that was from 2013. Might have changed.

I use my SG credit card to buy stuff from the SG store and send it to my US account to activate. I always make sure steam doesn't save my CC info so I don't impulse buy as easily.

It was like that before. It doesnt work anymore.

I contacted Steam support now and asked them to change my wallet currency.

That's not possible, unfortunately. Steam automatically converts any of their gift cards/cash codes into the currency that you're using. Since his wallet is in euros, it'll convert $ into Euros, instead of keeping it in $. He'll need to make a new account if he wants his wallet in dollars.

Hm, I think you'll need to make a second account just for purchases from the Chinese store. It'll probably come in handy for you, since the prices in the CN store are the same as the US, which is generally cheaper than EU1 or EU2.

It seems you can change your currency. Contact support, then provide some proof that you are really living there and they change it.

Not sure how long it takes though with Steam support...

Probably be waiting a couple of days. :p

Honestly, it may not even be worth it if you'll be moving back to Germany, since you'd then have to go through the same mess again.

If anything you may be better just making a Chinese steam account to gift stuff over.

the problem is that they're hundreds and hundreds of movies that talk about the subject matter in an intelligent way, while there's just a handful of games that deal with sex, consensual or not, without it being juvenile or manipulative.

Well, film as a media is well over a century old. Books are measured in millennia. Video games can be measured in decades, and most early games were a single person doing the coding, graphics, and writing... it wasn't until relatively recently in history writers were even hired once games started to go 'mainstream'.

Secondly, gaming is a different medium. A novel is a narrative with the primary goal of telling a tale. A film is a different medium, with all that comes with that (visuals replace imagination, time constraints, dialog must be shorter, etc). Both of those are passive. Games are interactive, and primarily a vehicle for gameplay, with story nowhere near as important - plenty of well regarded games have no plot at all, because it is a fundamentally and eternally secondary to the medium. As such, expecting the same types of narrative out of different mediums is futile, it's... just impossible. Just like a card game is different from a comic book.

We seem to judge most mediums by the best they have on offer. Literature, for example, has many champions proving its worth, despite there being a thousand or more pulp trash books for every decent (not even great) read. The same with film - we judge the medium on the best of the lot, not on the exploitation flicks, porn, or worse. Even comics, at this point, stands tall on the Alan Moores of the industry.

You mention gaming has some greats -- to me, that's far more important than the worst, because there's always, always going to be dreck in any medium. And not just a little dreck. Tons upon tons upon tons of it, if every other medium is anything to go by. The vast majority of media is created by untalented hacks. Gaming is no different.

i said this myself. if you're not ready to tackle difficult themes just don't tackle it. just don't talk about what you don't know how to talk about

there's no need for games to talk about gender issues or racism or whatever

but if you're gonna do so, i'm gonna judge the shit out of you

i strongly disagree that games are more interactive than film or music or whatever. games are oftentimes a lot more authored than movies and much easier to grasp and interpret, in both gameplay and story.

i also disagree that story is secondary for videogames as a medium

the interaction between gameplay and story is what's interesting about videogames, and in the few games that are actually interactive and allow you to write your own story (through dialogue, creativity in use of game mechanics or creative tools you're offered in game, and even modding), that's the #1 thing

the fact most videogames ignore that potential is sad, but most movies have copypasta framing and editing, so yeah, 90% of everything is always shit

I tried running Dead Rising 3 for the first time and it just made my computer reboot.

It's a good thing I got it for free.

I have the latest AMD drivers.

Just beat Double Dragon Neon.

Eh.

One of those games that is carried by the soundtrack. It's okay on its own, but a little stiff and not really challenging once you've got some nice mix-tapes (absorb is OP).
Also the port is a bit crap. Some players have been reporting memory leaks. Eventually the game becomes unplayable-slow after an hour an a half to 2 hours of straight play. Can't say I've run into that, but my final time on the first play-through was about 3 hours across 3 sittings (repeated a few stages to grind for mix-tapes). Online-play pretty much doesn't work as far as I can tell. Either that or everyone just quits on me. Even had somebody join up during the final boss-fight, only to quit right after I delivered the killing blow. What the butt?

The worst part is the ending. During the karaoke kredits the timing of the "Victory!" achievement is screwed, it pops before Skully sings "Here's a medal for your victory."
Really? REALLY? Completely ruined the moment.

Still have two difficulties to do, but so far I get the idea that they're just "everything does way more damage."

Well, that's one damn good price for GTA5, was a nono at $40+, but I can't resist at <$30.
I'll be able to help a few people to buy GTA5 for $27 each.
For now I'll only help those I already have in my friends list, so shoot me a message on Steam.
Hope it's ok i put this message here, not really looking to get bombed with PMs from the B/S/T thread and don't wanna spam my friends list. (sorry, but don't bother to PM me if we're not already friends on Steam, no exceptions for now)

Edit: Those are region free Steam gift copies, from little china.
