That'd also explain the shift from PC first, handhelds later to handhelds first and foremost. PC Maybe.

Even when DOS gamers got Sorcerian thanks to Sierra's patronage, the original soundtrack got absolutely gutted in order to work for MIDI devices, and most players had to deal with lame AdLib music if they hadn't purchased an MT-32 deck by that point. I'm honestly amazed they put Vantage Master V2 up online, for free, with a half-decent English translation. They might have been let down by inconsistent localization in the past, but the company's not going to abandon PC after seeing how accepting Western PC users are.

Not quite Falcom (though certainly inspired by), Zeliard kind of made up for that in the soundtrack department in the Japan via Sierra series of Game Arts games. Even the basic Adlib synth was so good.

I wonder if Valve's even paying attention to the Japanese PC game revival happening on Steam. They didn't select any Ys games for flash sales or dailies this Summer Sale, and their last trip to Japan ended up putting Japanese pubs off instead of giving them good reasons to promote the service on their end.

Sierra favored the Game Arts ports for sure. I'll also say that SoftEgg's port of Princess Maker 2 to DOS is remarkably faithful with the music, despite using a different sound chip.

Who knows? I wanted to say that publishers set their pricing in those situations, but I guess Valve is the one who still sets which titles actually do go on sale or not.

Precisely the problem. Maybe they see what Capcom does and think that reflects on the whole situation, even though a company like Falcom is waiting for good reasons to port to digital distro. I bet GOG is more accepting...Falcom's given them the go to distribute worldwide at a fair price, which is new.

Yup I got like 14 games I need to idle just from the recent bundles and hoping it'll knock the price down enough to where I only have to spend 10$ on it. Game surprised me out of nowhere when they made the annoucement early on this week.

I was surprised that the announcement was so sudden. I sort of expected it to arrive by fall at the earliest. It's a pleasant surprise, but I'm just glad that I had so many games left to idle.

Why? What happened?

I don't know if it's the case right now, but Steam Japan doesn't have Japanese-text options, which makes for a big user-end barrier to purchasing and managing a library (Gamastura).

Never mind, there's a Japanese-language option up now. I'm thinking of another article outlining Japanese devs/pubs' complaints with the service, probably back in 2013.

That battle system is pretty fun and seems a bit more fresh than your average turn based RPG. Also the jazzy feel the music has is amazing. Really cool to have this come out on Steam since the only other way to play the game was via PSP or Vita since it's a PSP game. Love that Falcom has always done PC versions for some games like this and yS and that Xseed has actually decided to bring us this version. Hopefully we get to hear more about the Second Chapter soon!

Aha, it's the Edge article covering Valve @ BitSummit, where the company offered stuff to doujinshi developers in particular.

Major complaints seem to be that Greenlight's the only option for smaller devs, which means more work on their end preparing a good first impression (means hiring a translator friendo) and more risk in their home country if the Greenlight fails.

Totilo edited a Kotaku article on Kamiya refusing PC support, noting that most Steam games don't have Japanese-language options ready yet, and that games can only be searched for in English characters. I'm sure some of this is old news, but it's worth repeating. There's no getting past the reputation that PC gaming gives someone in Japan, too, since salarymen only see PCs as business consoles and nothing else. I guess there's no fun allowed except on mobile or in an arcade at that age, huh.

Point is, Falcom's most likely going to do PC ports if they start earning lotsa royalties from XSEED's Steam and GOG sales, regardless of who's buying. This consistent relationship of theirs is doing good for both.

Greenlight is a huge problem and will hopefully be scrapped soon (although, valve time..) not only is it preventing Japanese indie devs from trying to get on Steam but we all see what has become of it in the west...

Man...the online in Injustice is really bad. It took me and Frosty 63 minutes to do 3 matches. Lots of waiting around in the lobby, constant crashing when inviting a friend, dead online. Blah.

I really really hope the MKX pc port isn't a mess like this. :|

Edit: Oh for those that have played it, how is Freaking Meatbags? I really like the name, but I'm not sure if game stands up as well.

It can't be any worse than the experience in WET. Still the worst level I have ever played in videogames, I felt such anger at it.
