That's a pretty good drawing of your avatar. The character matches up well in my opinion.

It is a freehand copy so its relatively close, still could've been much better if I had any kind of talent. I'm not too bad copying something but if you asked me to draw that from memory it would be a disaster.

Wait to you get to the Castle. You do much more than just kick them. TMP and an up close attack is a great combo as you save soooo much ammo.

hehe you save so much ammo for other weapons by using the tmp just because the game overloads you with tons of tmp ammo at every turn you take. Weirdly I never actually used the TMP in a playthrough and built my Red9 to serve the same purpose with a fast firing speed. I always based the TMP damage as weak so I stupidly never used it except for when you first get it right before
the first Giant.

I actually love RE5, but why was there a EL Gigante in that game? made no sense when I hadnt played RE4 (but knew it he was a boss), makes less sense now that I killed it in RE4

It's actually really effective in that first encounter. When you get the QTE prompt after you cause so much damage, instead of running up and hammering buttons whip your TMP out and it ends up doing massive damage. One of the things I love about RE4 is that every weapon, even the grenades have a use where they are the best suited to the job. Though we all have our favourite setups. I either go Red9, Striker, Rifle or Blacktail, Shotgun, Semi-Auto Rifle for the most part.

Yeah it is a bit out of place and is only semi sort of explained in the data files you collect. The boss fight though is fecking tedious for me unless I'm playing coop. Come on Capcom get that Steamworks patch sorted and I might dive in again.

Haha, this is probably true to some extent. :p

If it wasn't for your collection I'd swear you only bought Murdered: Soul Suspect because the main character is called Ronan.

Semi-sort of. Well actually yes it is but it's one of the better ones as you can tell Ashley to go wait in a dumpster. Though you have to make sure she doesn't get snafued or you'll have to stop the Ganado's running off with here or it's game over. Though there's a
reward for finishing the game that gets rid of that element.

Well finished Tomb Raider Underworld last night, but was too drunk to post about it

I probably like Tomb Raider Underworld a bit more than Legend, out of all three games from Crystal Dynamics, I feel that Anniversary is the better game of the three, interms of controls, puzzle designs and even boss fights. Legend started with the heavy focus on combat and shoot outs, the pacing is similar to most action heavy adventure games out today, I think underworld has weird pacing and surprisingly it didn't end with a boss fight like the previous 2 games did, but I enjoyed some of the levels a bit more than Legend.

What Underworld added was additional actions that I didn't find needed, things like kicking open pots which is slow and clunky and there are too many of them, especially in a big area, sometimes I just ignore them just so it doesn't distract me too much, and I think you need to dismount your motorcycle to pick up those items even if you break open the pots by driving over them. I think it would be better if they let you shoot them open with your handguns.

They added a lot of new animations for Lara which I appreciate but kind of made the controls a bit less responsive, there are a lot of collision problems with the environments, and getting stuck, which made the experience a little less enjoyable, but the puzzles and platforming are generally decent, I also like the addition of wall jump.

I feel that with every game Crystal Dynamics learned something new and improve/change their formula up a bit, but also it gave me a feeling that they are trying to depart from the Anniversary formula and also improve on the pacing and mixing things up, but were not entirely sure what kind of direction they should take the games (legend/underworld), and so they lack the layer of polish and consistency (for example underworld took out all the boss fights while legend has kind of an annoying end boss).

Tomb Raider Legend - TR game with a bit more focus on actions, I didn't find the puzzles or platforming to be too memorable, but overall a fun game. Some of the gimmick sections like the motorcycle level aren't that good, but mainly served as a distraction, game is pretty short overall, boss fights are on the bad side due to wonky lock on and clunky sword combat.

Tomb Raider Anniversary - A long TR game with a buttload of content, great platforming/puzzles section and enjoyable combat and boss fights. The atmosphere is somehow the strongest of the three, there's a sense of danger in some of those tombs because of the fucking surprise attack assholes (pls don't do those type of respawns again)

Tomb Raider Underworld - A sequel to Legend, I liked it better than Legend and I think it's also a more lengthy game but controls feel much less fluid. Another thing is that I've noticed them trying to increase the size for a few maps so it doesn't feel like you're always running down corridors, but also sometimes feel confusing (this is just because I'm bad with directions in games). The motorcycle section is better integrated as a gameplay element. Could do with less secret items and focus on quality instead of quantity like Anniversary.

I'd give the games a 9.9731 out of 12

shut uuuuuuuuuuuuuuup
I always liked playing it on keyboard and mouse, but I've never played it on a controller. The way the fighting system works, I got used to timing my swings perfectly with the mouse clicks after awhile. I actually like the fights in teh Witcher 2, games starts out pretty hard.

I've played a fair bit with both KBM and Controller. I liked controller a bit more for combat. My only issue is that the camera control with controller was always a little bit off. I had a hard time finding a setting so that it would move at a comfortable speed.

Thanks. I think I'll try with controller, seeing it's my natural preference for anything in third person

Someone sell me on Trails, why does everyone love it so much?

Solid story? Challenging gameplay?

Here is the lowdown on Trails in the Sky (I'm assuming the PC version will be pretty much identical)

Why I think a lot of people love it:

* It has become one of those games that is "amazing". So by extension people who have not played it will also hype it up, to make it appear like they have played it, or even actually owned a PSP. You can get extra bonus points by playing the old PC version...in Japanese.

Ok, so nobody had a PSP. But are some people still telling the truth?

* Yep, it is one of those games that you could easily fall in love with and soak in every lovingly created detail... if you are in the right mood.

Why people should love it:

* The story is simple and doesn't go too nuts like many a JRPG does. Think more FF12 rather than FF13.
* Despite being somewhat simple, the story is told extremely well and the characters are fleshed out and a lot of time is put into them (more on that later). Basically it ticks all the boxes for a JRPG and makes sure every box has a really neat tick.
* The battle system... is fine. More SRPG than straight turn based battles, there is enough to keep you interested, but only just. It isn't a particularly challenging game, but it is at least balanced (I don't remember any difficulty spikes and grinding isn't a problem (NB: this may be changed for this release)).
* The world is huge and there is a lot of effort put into building it up.

Why people will not love it:

* It is old school. And by old school, I mean it was made when I was still at school (not quite, but they were probably starting to work on it). This is reflected most in the graphics (maps, environment tiles etc) (but the screens of the PC version looks a bit better).
* It is a "quest" game. What that means is if you want to do anything at all, you need to pick a quest first and then go do (kill A, find B etc). While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it can make the game feel like busy work in small chunks, rather than a grand quest.
* There is really nothing original here. Think of a stereotype or RPG system and it'll probably be here.
* Pacing is often an issue, because of the before mentioned world size.

Why people will play it for a bit, get tired of it and just go around saying how amazing it is:

* It goes on forever and the characters never, ever shut up.
* Everything is well done, but if you don't get drawn into it, or have a lot of time to invest in the characters, you'll find yourself just clicking furiously to get through dialogue and the other systems are not fun enough to sustain the game from there.

Recommendation

If you have the time for a JRPG? This is about as solid as you can get. Just be aware that it is more "solid" than brilliant (to be fair, amazingly solid in every respect), so if you are not particularly keen, it is unlikely to suck you in.

Otherwise give it a go.

Pfft.... The real Joker would never have been caught by DetectiveGAF. He deletes his post histories and never uses the same avatar/name on other forums.

You are talking about a guy whose signature way to kill is a poison or gas that leaves the victim with their face contorted into a smile and who often uses weaponized gag items. Also, the Joker isn't a master of disguise. Most of his history paints him as a man who's face is permanently frozen or disfigured into a smile even when using makeup and dye to disguise his skin and hair color.

He would probably use his real first name because he would find it funny.

*Love*

I really enjoyed Underworld. Mostly I think it is because I'm a sucker for nice looking water in games and the first few levels really delivered. From there? It is kind of just fair enough but it got me to the end.

I'd put it right on the edge of what I want from a Tomb Raider game in terms of action to platforming to puzzles. The new Tomb Raider of course completely destroyed that ratio.

I wish this was based on the Scalzi novel.

Yep, that's pretty much spot on, great write-up. You need to invest quite a bit of time and patience into it because it starts slow and never really rushes to get anywhere, but there's a nice political plot behind everything that makes you feel part of a much larger story and world which I enjoyed very much.

I played (and finished) it on my Vita mostly during long train rides and it was perfect for that, playing it on a PC might have been a bit different. I'd still recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in JRPGs, especially at that price.
