Do tell me how Mr Bus!

A few have low permissions by default (IE and Chrome spring to mind) and nag you anytime it needs authorisation but that's not really sandboxing. You can get some standalone applications like Sandie where you can run most applications in what essentially would be a quanteened mode. Or you could go overkill and use a Virtual Machine to do all your browsing.

Edit: Or what morningbus said.

Well going by some court cases some of them are just as thick as the rest of us.Just when Joe Blogs returns his computer to where they bought it there's isn't a cache of illegal material on it.

yet another kickstarter VN with a twist

it's hybrid between VN and RPG, we had several of this kind before already, for example Magical Diary.

Sometimes I wonder what the people who make the Kickstarters think. I mean 30$ for such a game seems far too high. I spent 10$ on Shovel Knight, 15$ on There came an echo IIRC. 30$ seems far too much to ask as an unknown developer.

I remember when the kickstarter for this was posted in the thread, which I just went to check and I guess it's dead in the water, at 17k/50k and 8 days left.

I would have backed it for 10-15$, but not 30$.

I was wondering how VN kickstarters are doing in general, there are so many of them recently and I don't follow kickstarter. If you do, could you tell me some. I mean judging by the share number of them many have to be successful, or is it not the case?

this logic somehow misses VN devs entirely, you just have to check VN prices in general (not necessary on steam, even if there is the same trend here too).
And even if I understand the extra costs in case of VNs with full voiceover, I still find it hard to swallow all prices being so high for most of VNs with VA or without.

I use nod 4 and updated db several months ago, never updated windows too. Didn't have a single virus problem in 15 years.

Other japanese, higher budget VNs that Sekaiproject put on Kickstarter were available for 20-25$. Memorys Dogma e.g. was 20$ for early backers, 25$ for normal backers and it just got 88.000$.
With Clannad you could get the game for 30$ as an early backer and 50$ as a physical edition.
Grisaia was 30$.
Compared to these high profiles titles, this game seems far smaller and is developed on a far smaller budget, so 30$ to ask for a game that doesnt even exist yet (compared to Sekaiprojects Projects) seems far too much.
The devs could actually go to Sekaiproject and afaik they could become their publisher.

I think this game looks interesting though, but 30$ really seem too much to ask. I mean

Shit whatever happened to that kickstarter for the mech VN? The one that's depressing or something. The really long one. Did that already finish!

On the topic of anti-virus software; I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium and the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. I have a free version of both on a thumb-drive, which also has a portable version of SpyBot Search & Destroy. Haven't had virus problems since my friend bought a MWB Premium key & shared with me (although I was going to get my own, it seems they've since changed to a subscription system instead of life-time license, so I'm not sure I'll want my own key)

Last time I had a virus that actually harmed me was during a so-called counter-hack when one of my mates had his PC hijacked, and that was before I had MWB Premium, which is really a god-sent.

Speaking of; does anyone have experience with Malwarebytes' Android Anti-Malware? Wondering if it'd be useful.

faux-edit; said thumb-drive is on my lil' KeySmart, and also contains Malwarebytes Chameleon, RegAssassin & FileAssassin... And SpaceSniffer, SumatraPDF and some other funky useful stuff like Driver Magician and CPUID & portable versions of CrystalDisk Mark + Info.

Bestest keychain USB is bestest.

I understand that, but probably that's how devs think, if all VNs are priced at +$30, how are we any worse?
Sunrider Academy is another example, their first game was interesting and free, not f2p or anything, completely free on steam, second not only dropped all gameplay, it's suddenly priced at 30€...

edited: well, I'm being a tad unfair here, not all gameplay but you know what I mean

That is why I wait for the prices to drop. Sunrider Academy was 15$ last week though. I am actually quite happy that some VNs are in bundles like Higurashi or GGN.

I am actually the same as you. Even though I know that a VN often offers far more hours than some other games (some VNs are extremely long), they still feel more like books if they dont offer much gameplay, so 30-40$ seem steep. That is why I usually buy the physical editions.

Well, I would assume it was SP that decided to charge for it rather than the actual devs.

Every time GAF discusses anti-virus software, this got brought up. Has it ever occurred to you that maybe the reason why you think it's "fine" is because it couldn't detect anything?

Meh, not really. I only really use my desktop for gaming and
porn
ing and avoid clicking things I shouldn't. Keeping windows up to date and setting a nightly antivirus check along with removing unnecessary crap has worked out so far.

My heart is fine.

I all of a sudden want to watch back to the future now for some reason. Or listen to huey lewis

I'm about to start chapter 3 in the evil within.

so far the gunplay is pretty satisfying. I'm not feeling the story yet though.

I just wonder why they didnt inclue the free game to it in some kind of remastered edition. Afaik its the prequel. I would love to have it as a +1 in my library.

VNDB lists it as an alternate version rather than a prequel. There is also a sequel being made, Sunrider: Liberation Day.

Updates on building a arcade machine:

3. Arcade Parts

Got the arcade parts today, got them from this seller on ebay. Got a full arcade set for £22 including encoder. The guy is also reasonable if you want want to swap parts or colours and will adjust the cost to your order, in the end I paid only £2 extra for Happ buttons., encode uses a USB port and is for only 1 player, however it instantly works with the RetroPie and I had no problems using the stick with games. There was no delay and the constols are super responsive, good news all round!.

I still haven't plunged on buying mdf/acrylic boards for the panels yet, at the moment the best thing to do at this stage was to see if the design I made previously was going to be comfortable enough to use, printed off my 1:1 scale SVG file and just stuck it on a shoebox and cut some hole, dropped the buttons in and connected it all up

qPkcrhF.jpg

Overall it worked amazingly well, I'm going to keep the 8 button layout., one problem I may have later is cable management, it was the first time connecting crimp wires and it was a complete mess under the box lol..

It's pretty good straight from Vanilla. But most of us that have one DLC attached to it find it very expensive.

Yeah, bethesda's premium pricing on their DLC as an means to push you to buy the complete version instead is scummy, no doubt. Still, paying $8 for the Skyrim equivalent of their season pass/goty bundle seems fair to me. I doubt it'll get much cheaper than this

I don't follow it much tbh, but I usually get emails from Sekai Project about their kickstarters and when I go take a look, I see they usually meet their goals easily enough.

I'm surprised this particular kickstarter hasn't made its goal and that it could fail.

My point is, if your PC wasn't fine, you wouldn't know.

Skyrim Legendary for 6€ is back @GMG
That's a good price actually. Much better than their Steam Sale Discounts. Especially for base-only owners.
Microsoft Security Essentials or essentially Windows Defender in Win 8+ is all I've needed for years. If you must put something on your PC don't install the insidious nagware that is Avast but Bitdefender does a completely ad free version that does the trick and doesn't pester you to 'upgrade'.

http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/solutions/free.html
Been using AVG Pro for half a year I think. Giving the odd false-flag here and there but nothing major. Didn't catch a virus for years now, so I can't say how "better" AVG protects me compared to MSE.
It does take a wee bit upon Windows start though.

First time hearing of Bitdefender. Might try out.

I'm sure those nice fellows from 'Microsoft' that call from the Indian subcontinent on regular basis would let him know. I mean they already know you have an infected computer before you do and will gladly tell you what to do over the phone if you give them your debit card details.

Haha, and yeah, you will know when cryptolocker got your computer.

Spooky's House of Jump Scares full version is finally out! It's a free game, so anyone can play it.

Game was in Early Access for a while, but it just released it's 'Final' Version, which means you can reach to the end of the game, new additions, variety of changes and fixes, two endings.

This game got some attention, and I've heard it's actually pretty good. I've been waiting for the 'final' version of the game myself, think I'll make an OT about it also (that likely will get very little attention, but shhhh).

It still says Early Access on the page at the time of writing, but the update has come out and that tag should change shortly.

Well going by some court cases some of them are just as thick as the rest of us.Just when Joe Blogs returns his computer to where they bought it there's isn't a cache of illegal material on it.

Speaking of weird stuff, I tried the console command you suggested and couldn't find anything, but I did find a way to trigger that brief cmd pop up. On starting steam I go to featured and then Stats (or subsequently I can go to 2 or 3 other pages then try to load the stats page again). As the page loads, before the graph appears, the cmd box will pop up, disappears and then the page loads. I used windows security auditing to isolate the procceses occurring when that happens using event viewer. Turns out it has something to do with Steamwebhelper, but I have no idea what. The chain of events goes -

Process Created
New Process Name: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\steamwebhelper.exe
Token Elevation Type: TokenElevationTypeDefault (1)
Process Created
New Process Name: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe
Token Elevation Type: TokenElevationTypeDefault (1)
Process Created
New Process Name: C:\Windows\System32\conhost.exe
Token Elevation Type: TokenElevationTypeDefault (1)
Process Termination
Process Name: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe
Process Termination
Process Name: C:\Windows\System32\conhost.exe
Process Termination:
Process Name: C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe

Not that that has really helped me understand much of anything. I still have no idea why it is doing that. Then again this is one of the many mysteries I have with Steam. Another is where the music player always defaults to shuffle no matter what. Infuriating.

Hmm is it a horror horror game or just a cute game with horror elements?

Just finished both Obscure games, I'm disappointed there isn't a 3rd one given the 2nd has a cliffhanger!
very FEAR 2 let's just say :S

They're both pretty decent ps2 era knock off Resi clones, I recommend them given the base price (cos they don't go on sale often! :/)

Uses a Zero Delay encoder:

you can pick one off ebay for less than $10, works on PS3/PC and on the RetroPie device. No installation required. just plug your buttons in and it works instantly through USB.

There is a spin-off, but with very different gameplay/minimal story known as Final Exam, made by the series creators: http://store.steampowered.com/app/233190/

The creators who made ObsCure are an indie company now in France, but they bought back the rights to their own franchise and probably are working on an ew ObsCure something-or-other.

never been so happy to pay for argie tax

tomorrow i'm going to customs to get my fucking obsidan t-shirt

tomorrow is the day i'm happy

Bitdefender Free. Very unobtrusive just like MSE.
got a nice looking interface i guess. mostly i want something that doesn't have a robot voice

robot voices creep me out

...

might try that one after i format and switch to win10

Is you haven't had any viruses/spyware and your PC is running fine I would stick with MSE for now. If you are paranoid of getting viruses though then maybe hop up to a more secure AV.

Most cases where you get a virus is down to the user clicking a bad link or installing something they shouldn't As long as you are internet wise then almost any AV will do!
yea afaik i don't really have many issues and i only had one virus/malware related issue that i had to manually fix and was super annoying

but only once in like a few years so i'm guessing it's kind of ok

Is Double Dragon Trilogy triggering a virus warning for anyone else?

I mean, yeah, PROBABLY a false positive. Seems to be a widespread issue though. It's happening across multiple antivirus programs.

More here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/314150/discussions/0/523890046875237178/

Fucking DotEmu - I'm done with their sloppy shit! I uninstalled the game just to be safe.

Edit: Any way I can contact them to alert them of the issue? They obviously don't read the Steam forums.
