If anyone is interested GRID released a new video for the Black Edition and it seems they are taking feedback from GRID 2 quite seriously. Also, I think I read something regarding Pre-order tiers on Steam but we have to wait a bit more, I believe. Here's the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEnJkq2rvzQ

And also this:

"One of the frequent questions we're receiving is in regards to Steam pre-orders and we can confirm that these will be available within the next two weeks."

Looks like the game will release on the 24th of June in USA and on the 27th everywhere else according to the official website. I don't like pre-order DLC, but I will probably end up pre-ordering GRID Autosport anyway since I liked the previous games so much.

Oh wow, Rinoaa was banned :/ The choke on it comment was a bit harsh, but still, I hope it's not a permaban :/

I'm going to have to put "talking about Phil Fish" on the list of topics to avoid.

Also nice giveaway, n8!

Thanks for the giveaway, n8!
If I should win and the key doesn't work, well I'll thank you anyway.

I plan on updating to 8.1 once my ssd arrives, see if that fixes anything

When I first updated to Windows 8.1, at its first boot I found it to be quite faster and the interface is also improved, so I would recommend you to try it out either way.

n8 Thanks for making that kind giveaway. I'm not going to enter but good luck for those entering. Also, congrats on the new PC. Be sure to hang around with us! :)

I'm probably going to buy one of the final fantasy games on sale at the humble bundle store. Would you guys recommend one over the other?

Yeah, but Fish is just the face of FEZ.
Actual programming work was done by Renaud Bédard, music/SFX by Disasterpiece. Both are good people, and surely deserve money for their work?

Don't forget the original programmer who is still paid a portion of the profits.

It depends on what you value more. In terms of overall story, main characters, and gameplay mechanics I would say that FF7 is the better game. If you prefer better ingame character models over any other aspect, then FF8 would be the better choice.

I think FF7 is the better game, even though the graphics is a bit dated, enjoyable combat system, decent characters and plot, I liked FF8 because of the theme and visuals, but I dislike the characters and overall I think most prefer 7.

They're both great, though most people consider 7 to be the quintessential JRPG.

Final Fantasy 8 is more of an "acquired taste", most people either really love it or really hate it.

Between 7 and 8? FF7 for sure. It's a loved game for many reasons. Though 8 does have some pretty darn interesting mechanics and maybe looks slightly less dated. Though maybe with some mods that could be a non factor.

Another day, another couple of Strategy First games:

A beautiful young woman wakes up in a vast and mysterious undersea temple complex, not knowing who or where she is. She soon learns that she has been frozen in a death-like slumber in a secret crypt for over a century. Now she must escape the crypt and explore the ancient underwater chambers to unravel the mystery. Use your Hidden Object and puzzle-solving skills to help Anna unlock the enchanted Royal Relics, reveal the terrible secrets of the Dark Empress, and piece together her own shocking identity … before its too late! Along the way she encounters strange and mysterious characters. But who truly wants to help her? And who wants her dead? The fate of humanity lies in her hands.

Scarlett Frost, specialist in the dark arts has been summoned to a luxurious and remote theatre in the snowy Italian Alps. Could it be that the infamous and diabolical Hapsburg Cube has been found and purchased by the sinister theatre proprietor, Dr. Corvis ? The cube is said to imprison a powerful and ancient Babylonian demon that would wreak hellish destruction if the cubes should break.

In a moment of desperate confusion the cube breaks and the demon bursts forth into the souls of the Dr. Corvis and his young Daughter Bethany. The ancient theatre in the lonely winter mountains becomes an arena of spiritual war, between the darkest forces of the underworld and the cunning and esoteric mind of Scarlett Frost.

But Scarlett soon finds out that the only way to fight a demon this powerful is to become possessed by one herself. Only then can she acquire a ticket to the Theatre of the Absurd.

Both are 15% off ($4.24) for the next week.

It looks like Bound By Flame is getting the Dark Souls 2 treatment over at Playfire. Their twitter header states that it'll get up to £5.00 in credit.

I don't know what they could put up as unlockables for pre-ordering. I guess we might get some previous Codemasters games and some stupid DLC for Autosport, I still have my gift copy of Racedriver: GRID which I got from pre-ordering GRID 2, I should give it away through ModBot at some point.

I'd argue that FF8 is a better game, especially in 2014. It got a lot of flak on release because it wasn't FF7-2, honestly it feels more like an Akitoshi Kawazu game.
Still, the system is way deeper than FF7's Materia one and it doesn't have honest to god-awful translation to boot.
tl;dr FF8 FTW

FF8 is a fun game to break. And there's something satisfactory about drawing magic even though on paper it sounds like the most unfun mechanic one could possibly devise.

Will be getting those Saints Row ones for sure, shame I've already played it on Steam.

Treasure ahead in short try luck.
Ahem.. Dark Souls 2 on the mind again. Great giveaway, n8.

Anyways, has there been any signs as to when Trails in the Sky 1 or 2 will be coming to Steam? I'd swear they were supposed to release very soon, but I've heard zero news on them for quite a while now.

Besides, the important difference between Phil Fish and the Paranautical asshats is that he wasn't wrong in his comments. Japanese games HAVE gotten worse since their prime in the 90's.[..]

The important difference between Phil Fish of Polytron and the Paranautical devs is that Phil Fish oversaw the release of his game in a retail-quality condition before calling it quits in game development, whereas the Paranautical devs did not not. That you share Phil Fish's opinion does not make it accurate or correct, it only means the two of you are in agreement. I see no reason to defend Phil Fish's hurtful and ignorant comments, other than to perpetuate hurtfulness and ignorance.

Individuals like Phil Fish are the reason companies have soulless entities dedicated entirely to managing their PR. I feel like a lot of these small indie studios would avoid their PR faux-pas if they had some sort of trained PR person. This is not to say that PR companies solve all problems, but they seem to be an important barrier between the creators and the consumers.

Polytron's lack of a PR handler shouldn't really come as a surprise, either. They are the same company that refused to patch a game-breaking bug on the console version that affected only the most dedicated of Fez fans. (Yes, I know that they're a small, desoluate indie studio... but when you have a person as abrasive and outspoken as Phil Fish, steps need to be taken for protection of the studio and its other employees.)

That reminds me, wasn't Phil Fish the one that said his game was built specifically for consoles, and that it couldn't work on anything else? Then again, maybe that was Republique (the Stealth-Action Thriller, an episodic AAAA+ iOS/PC game that was Kickstarted). They're all starting to blur together...

I completely agree with you. I plant myself firmly in the "love it" category of people. But I love 7 also, and even got 100% achievements on Steam.

Still wish there were more Final Fantasy games on Steam.

Looks like Cognition keys for Steam aren't available yet - getting a "Error loading key to save, please try again." error when I try to view mine.

Which is a shame, since that's exactly why I bought the bundle. Hope they get this sorted out soon.

Very nice! Here's hoping Transistor and Killer is Dead will be on GMG and get the same treatment.

Provided FF3 sells, we're sure to get at least the Android ports.

I would be okay with that, as long as they fix the horrible touch-screen controls and give us proper controller support.

Despite it's flaws, I've been having a blast with Final Fantasy 6. And I'd jump at the chance to play Dimensions with a controller.

Yep, looks like every game that they're heavily promoting will get the same treatment so I'm guessing similar rewards for Wolfenstein, Tropico 5 and probably Murdered Soul Suspect

Murdered Soul Suspect will be THE flop of the summer, won't it? Even the usually positive previews didn't sound too excited.

  • Good opportunity for you and whoever hasn't played it yet, I have already sunk over 100 hours into it and I don't regret it.

!Everything is permitted! may take you some time - I recall this achievement to be a chore - but the game overall is worthy, much fun to be had, so go for it.

I really hope they can give the first GRID! I finished GRID2 last year and loved it but I have yet to pick the first one and since I read that the first one is much better (Cockpit view as one of the things) it's a must for me to play it. If you can't find a good home for the first GRID, well, let me know, I know someone who would like it. If not, it's more than okay too! :)

On a related note I wish they could put the first DIRT on Steam but I guess that is impossible because the license of Colin Mcrae...

Highly likely, I don't recall Squeenix promoting it much outside of the announcement trailers

FF8 has Triple Triad. That alone makes it ridiculously good. Probably the best mini game in a FF game ever.

Most definitely. Unless Quantum Conundrum 2 is still in development it'll likely be the game that severs Airtight's relationship with Squeenix, at which point the studio will either double down on mobile or close up shop.

Put me in the hate camp, though I don't exactly hate it, more like I think it's one of the worst ones. I just didn't have the same fun with it as I did with 7, and after it I had a lot more fun with every other entry in the franchise. I'll still grab it up again once it's cheap enough on Steam though.

Wow, amazing giveaway n8, thanks for the chance!

BTW, has anyone tried this one: 8BitBoy? Saw it on the new releases the other day. Looks like a fun platformer/Mario clone... with Flappy Bird/Angry Birds like enemies WTF? lol
