Is it me, or has the new game flood significantly subsided ever since Valve made the storepage change from 'new releases' to 'top selling'?

The one that shocks me the most after this long is The Sea Will Claim Everything. Really thought that'd have limped over the finish line by now.

At this point I don't think it will ever get Greenlit :/

It seems like it gets a vote or two every few weeks but never gets any closer to being approved.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Looks like Valve just fixed the server-side issue some people were having where they were showing as level 0 and all their badges were missing.

Everything should be back to normal now for those affected.

not to badmouth anyone but didnt the Volgarr dev say recently when it was 50% on humble that it would be the lowest it would go for awhile? :p

I really wish they hadn't done that, the extra click is super annoying. I already know about which games are selling well, I care about which games are releasing :/

I can verify that we had no idea this was coming, it came directly from Valve and Adult Swim Games, our publisher on Steam. We didn't go through a publisher for any other platforms (Humble, GoG, Amazon) so we have completely control there, but with the Steam version we are at the mercy of the publisher. We didn't know this was happening until ASG told us at 8am this morning.

It was our mistake to make the original tweet saying that no better sale would be coming. Kris made the assumption that Valve/ASG wouldn't put Volgarr on sale again until the big summer sale, and that it would be only at 50% off if it was on sale then at all. Truth be told, we are pretty upset by this and were even wondering if the timing was on purpose (i.e. someone at Valve saw Volgarr hit the top sellers on the Humble store last week and decided they should get in on that action).

We did not intend to deceive and will be happy to offer a refund to anyone that purchased it from the Humble sale and feel cheated by this.

Guys, i finally got :poop:. I bought it off the market for a dollar.

Did anyone else manage to get it legitimately without buying it?

I did, that was an exciting day, the day I got the poop.

Really spot on analysis. I was glad Playfire convinced me to give the game another shot because it can be fun and pretty at times, but I grew weary of the majority of what you complained about around half way through and decided I had had my fill.

It's funny because I think I'm one of the people who would say Strike Suit Zero is awesome, and yet I also had issues with every single one of the things listed (the final mission is weird and has little to no combat, some missions should have been broken up with a checkpoint or a refuel/rearm, lots of defend-from-torpedoes escort missions). I guess that for whatever reason, I either didn't think these were huge issues (the final mission) or I'd somehow managed to forget how frustrating those issues were (the scorching difficulty and lack of refuel/rearm). I haven't played the Director's Cut so I don't know if the rebalancing actually addressed these things or not.

Anyways. I appreciate Strike Suit Zero so much more now that I've played through most of Starlight Inception. THAT is not a good game. I have half a mind to abandon it and play through the whole Wing Commander saga again instead. Hell, WC: Secret Ops was originally a FREE GAME and that was way better on pretty much every level.

You would think with all the masses of data Valve has on all its Steam users, what games they own, what ones the gave a good recommendation, the ones they've played the most, the ones they've not started, the ones they love so much the gift away to friends, that they could make a incredibly detailed and specially tailored landing page of items matched and filtered to your own Steam habits.

Yeah I know never going to happen :(

Yep, never going to happen. But mostly because it doesn't look like they will ever hire me.
Because I could totally make this happen

Atta boy ;). Thanks for the apology. Sucks that you guys were unaware of today's sale :/. Great that you guys owed up to the mistaken tweet though, and now, I digress.

God lord man, you have quite a 'to do' list when you get hired. Hope you're writing all this down :p

"Hey guys, thanks for making me giant shit tons of money on my last game.

For my next game, you can go fuck yourselves!"

Edmund M.

Keep in mind he is not involved with programming or publishing the game. He just sends the company design documents and artwork essentially, so whatever deal that publisher made with Sony is preventing a day one release on PC.

Still incredibly frustrating.

I live in hope there is a work station somewhere in the halls of Valve's office with your name on it and a big stack of changes to be made and covered in post it notes of to-dos. You'd have thought with what Gabe was saying about how focused they are on economics after hiring Yanis they'd be on the ball with UX as there is tons of sales potential being missed.

To be fair we've kinda had BoI exclusive since 2011. Rebirth is significantly changed up and it sucks that we'll miss out for a brief period but it's pretty much as he says.

Well that would indeed be nice, but I hope that if Valve is going to hire me, they'd hurry up and do it already.

As it is, I've confirmed that I'm losing my house, and have started shopping my resume around to different companies all over the country. What this means is that there's a possibility that I'll no longer be close to the Seattle area in a few month's time.

And since my youngest kid is going into high school, I plan on staying wherever I land for at least the next 4 years, if possible.

Telling us to "go fuck ourselves" would be not releasing a PC version at all.

I think you're blowing this way out of proportion. Seriously.

Metal Dead is in. Great!

Are there any more already-released notable pc games that haven't been greenlit?

I misread that as "Metal Dad". That totally has to be a thing now. I'm imagining a game where you play as some Ozzy Osbourne-type character trying to deal with domestic life.

Btw, another Steam addition i'd like: activate product keys straight to your inventory rather than have it tied to your library. If you want to store all those bundle duplicates and use them in tradings.

How would Valve benefit from this?

I doubt this will ever happen. Occasionally, Steam keys get revoked from the developer / publisher for whatever reason. Would be a small nightmare if the game was activated straight to someone's inventory and traded several times before being activated. They would also have to revoke the unclaimed gift copies in people's inventories.

This puts an additional burden on Valve (and most certainly on Valve support) that doesn't add any additional value for their business. In fact, they would probably lose business, since at the moment if you want a gift copy of a game you are forced to buy it from Valve.

I don't recall there's a direct benefit for Valve when you activate a steam code for yourself? How's that different from being able to buy from the store straight to inventory?

Unexpectedly enough, I would be willing to play Al Emmo, it's funny and all, but GB resolution killed it for me, I can't see a bloody thing and barely read the text. This is so annoying, seriously.
a pity really, also it reminds me Larry somewhat.

Because you can get the Steam key from anywhere, but purchasing on the Steam store straight to your inventory means that Valve is getting a 30% cut of that sale.

They issue Steam keys to the developers / publishers as a kind of "thank you for using our platform", meaning Valve generates no revenue.

The only way it would work out in a business sense would be if Valve charged developers 30% of the cost of their game every time a key was redeemed. And if they did that, you could say goodbye to places like GMG, Amazon, or Humble Bundle offering Steam keys at all.

It's more out of sight, out of mind.

They're treating their customers on PC like we're second rate. I remember all of those Gamasutra articles where Edmund and Tommy went on about how they got kind of screwed over by Microsoft with their XBLA deal, how much money they made in just a short amount of time when they first started releasing their games on Steam, what a great service it was for them as content creators and now they do this.

Not everything's going to get a simultaneous release on all platforms. Yeah, I know it's a little frustrating when it's something you're looking forward to, but I don't see it as some kind of betrayalton. It's clearly not intended to snub anyone. The game's still coming to PC. Is the thought of it being available on some other platform first really that big a deal? :s

Exactly. The original question was whiny enough (please don't release the game on consoles first because there's a chance I might be spoiled :'( come on are you kidding me?) but I didn't think that kind of complaint would be echoed here... You know the devs will make a good PC version, and it's normal that they'd want to make a PS version as well. That it comes with an exclusivity period isn't their fault. That's just how things are, no big deal – and it works both ways. Don't act like entitled whiny kids :(

So again, if Valve has no issues of keys bought elsewhere being activated on Steam for no cut, why would they have issues of redeeming same key to the inventory for no cut, aside from logistical concerns?

Cool idea, but I'd rather pay money for Volgarr than get stuck with Bad Rats for free or whatever horrible game you're hiding. :)

I'll try to hide how much this hurt me and encourage you to go ahead and pay money for Volgarr. It's well worth it. That and Tiny Barbarian are my two favorite games of last year.

Well it is someone's fault because most other indie games release on multiple platforms at the same time. I don't care too much in this case but arbitrary exclusivity shouldn't be how things are.

I'm sorry if I really hurt your feelings. :( I didn't mean to. I think your raffle idea is original and cool. What the hell...I'm going to throw my name into the hat. I like games of chance. :)

Edit: Can we enter for all four keys in separate PMs to Modbot, or do we have to pick one key? (I wouldn't expect to win multiple keys. I just mean, can we go for all four to increase the chances of winning one? Or is that against the spirit of this thing?)

Yeah, I'm not saying it's ideal, but I don't think it's scandalous either. Other games get released on PC first. Some games get released on iOS or Android before moving to non-mobile platforms. It's just hard to make a simultaneous release, you know? Although in this case, I don't think it would be a big technical hurdle, but I'm 99% sure it was a request of Sony, not Team Meat.

I would strongly recommend against that, by default you can only enter for one unless the giver sets the free for all flag. I did no such silly thing, so enter twice and you'll likely get disqualified.
