I might do this.....i bought the base game and installing now. Want to make sure i can access the game fine and EA doesnt fuck me.

It's way cheaper on Origin. $8 an expansion.

Not particularly. The immediate beginning is great, but some levels afterwards are just bad and the controls are wonky. And the story was somewhat stupid (although it's trying very hard to be "sophisticated").

It's way easier than Doom 3, and they cut content from the expansion. If you want a watered down more casual version of Doom 3, go for it.

well, look up the market. It varies. Some go for 0.15, some for around 0.40. The prices plummeted since the beta though.

I don't buy games at launch, just wait for the seals. We get one each season, so it's not like the timing is difficult. Just means a few weeks of waiting.

Your first is always your most expensive. The longer you spend on Steam the more you will see repeat deals etc.

Still, this is my 3rd summer sale with various others in between and I'm still having to say no to deals just to keep within the £50 budget I have (which is already a 2x increase on my planned budget)

The first sale is the worst. That's where you want to get everything you've missed. This is now my third summer sale and I've spent ~3-4€ so far from my own money (~14€ from my card money). There's just not that much to buy anymore (un)fortunately.
