I doubt it for Eschalon. There have been hardly any sales on both of the games until now, the current prices are pretty epic. I waited these down for quite a long time. I would wait until the end of the sale just in case though. First rule of Steam Sales.
True. Been waiting to see Eschalon on sale again for a long time too. I can wait a few more days. Thanks.

Awesome, gonna claim the Defense Grid Resurgence Maps Pack then. Thanks! :D

so how is Magicka?

should I pick up some of the add on packs?

only got a 20 euro budget for the steam sale so I might just get the stand alone game.

Thank you Mairu for the Hoard game! Hopefully the summer achievement isn't as hard as you guys make it out to be...

It sets a (bad) incentive for investment in videogames. They make something absurd like millons or a billion a year.

Zynga apparently makes almost a billon dollars a year in revenue. welp.

Plants vs Zombies worth the 3 bucks? I've never played tower defense games much. I watched some videos of it and it looks charming enough.

Holy crap yes. I paid the full ten and felt like I got way more than my money's worth out of it.

edit: Just checked my played time on this, 58 hours, and I double dipped and replayed it on the iPad. It's one of my favorite games.

It isn't "awful", those games are mostly more time-management than actual gameplay, some more playable, some less, all based on lots of microtransactions. They are not always "bad", they are just very, very different from actual retail games and really more designed for casual players.

Then again, I'll take any Farmville Facebook game over luck-based crap like Angry Birds :/

Recommended, yes only base game, if you really like the system, get the Vietnam DLC.

I bought a 4 pack and have 2 giftable copies available. if you want in, send me a pm. it's $2.55 each, but I won't be home for a couple hours.

It was a mistake.

On the first day of the sale it was cheaper than it was supposed to be. A mistake that was quickly fixed.

The gameplay itself isn't exactly "awful", because everyone's opinion is different (I played it for a few minutes, found in boring and never looked back). What is awful, however, is the way they price these pointless digital objects. The game is free to download but can end up costing the user a lot of money if they get sucked into it (and far too many do). It's their money of course and they can do what they want with it, but the amount of DLC is, from what I've heard, substantial (and expensive). Have you ever noticed how the highest grossing games on the AppStore are labeled "free"? These games make money by charging the user A LOT (sometimes hundreds) in digital doodads.

Also I bought the Half-Life games I didn't have for around $20 yesterday. Feels bad man.
I think it is worth $3, I put in a good 40 hours or so into it since the initial release.

But if I had to recommend only one tower defense game it would have to be Defense Grid: The Awakening. I absolutely loved it. I would definitely wait until the last day to buy this though, it is one of the Steam Summer Sale Camp Activities, which pretty much guarantees that it will be a daily deal at some point, and it has been a highly successful and VERY cheap daily deal during multiple previous Steam sales.

The four map pack for Defense Grid is one of the prizes you can spend your tickets on too.

I'm not really that averse to the microtransaction system when it's done in a decent way. Like Tiny Tower on iOS is a "freemium" game but isn't intrusive in the slightest. I'm guessing Farmville is bad about it?

Do you guys think they will put games up for sale for a second time at the end of the sale like at Christmas? I missed out on Borderlands because I was busy being a summer camp counselor.

Lets say it "encourages" you to spend money way more than other games do because the developers knew which nerves to tickle. Especially dangerous for casual players since they dont have any relation what a "game" might cost.

And yeah, hats prices are equally stupid.

I actually don't think the micro system in the 'ville games is all that nefarious...but it is truly a terrible "game." It takes the basic formula of addictive, Pavlov-style repetitive behavior found in many games but with virtually all actual gameplay stripped away. It is a game only in the loosest sense of the word.

If you're gonna try a 'ville game, try Frontierville...it's a little better because the setting is more interesting and therefore setting up your little space can be a bit more entertaining. But as a game it isn't much better.

No problem. I am just glad to see other people interested in Eschalon too. I didn't take my own advice about waiting for the last day though, I think I had both bought within a minute after first seeing the info about them being added to the sale. :D

Played with so many Magicka noobs who didn't know what they were doing until they just quit :/ how frustrating. But, I got the ticket.

I could be up to help some others get it if you like, steam ID JKTrix.

How long does it take, you think?

I played the game at launch for a bit, but never really finished it. So I'm pretty noob too. :<
