I'm not really that averse to the microtransaction system when it's done in a decent way. Like Tiny Tower on iOS is a "freemium" game but isn't intrusive in the slightest. I'm guessing Farmville is bad about it?

Yeah I'd say so. :p

And if you have an iOS device you can see other freemium games that charge up to one hundred dollars for in-game money. Most of these games are generally geared towards children, too, such as Smurf's Village, and if it has been 15 minutes since the last purchase, these kids can buy these items without entering a password!

PvZ is great, definitely recommend it. That and HL franchise stuff should be no-brainers for folks that don't yet own these games somehow.

Why is this stuff downloading so slow? fuck

And here lies the marketing genius. I found myself looking at other games while waiting.

Probably going to replay HL2 that I picked up a while back. Haven't played it since release.

I was at 0-40 KB/s for a while. Finally built up to 1.2 MB/s.

I think it is worth $3, I put in a good 40 hours or so into it since the initial release.

But if I had to recommend only one tower defense game it would have to be Defense Grid: The Awakening. I absolutely loved it. I would definitely wait until the last day to buy this though, it is one of the Steam Summer Sale Camp Activities, which pretty much guarantees that it will be a daily deal at some point, and it has been a highly successful and VERY cheap daily deal during multiple previous Steam sales.

The four map pack for Defense Grid is one of the prizes you can spend your tickets on too.

I adooooore Defense Grid. But for what it's worth, I don't really consider PvZ to be a "true" tower defense game. It has much in common with them, and if you had to categorize it that's where you'd put it, but it's a much different experience. So while I wouldn't recommend Defense Grid to someone who just doesn't like TD games, I'd recommend PvZ to anyone. My wife likes it, my kid likes it, my dad likes it, and it's one of only two games my mom ever plays on her iPad (guess what the other one is...). It's that rare game that truly has universal appeal.

Defense Grid is one of those games I push like hell during these sales, I'm sure this year will be no exception ;p

(Magicka Ticket) How long does it take, you think?

I played the game at launch for a bit, but never really finished it. So I'm pretty noob too. :<
Not long at all if the room is set up right. You can set it so that the boxes only drop low level magic, so soon enough at least one person will get Rain. I don't know if you have to wait for it to finish before you cast the next one, but I got Nullify before I got Rain so I just kept doing it over and over.

If more than one person gets it then it's bound to go faster.

Half-Life 1 (already owned) is going at 9.7 Kb/s for me. Hell yeah.

Change your server to norway or sweden or something.

Is there some kind of Save Exploit I can use for Super Meat Boy? No fucking way i'm doing all the Hell stages and getting A+. I didn't even unlock half of them.

Fucking fuck my email linked to my Steam account has not worked since PSN hackings and I can't do shit with my account right now. :(

I've send mail to support asking if my email is possible to change without logging into my old one but no answer in two months...

I hate this shit even if the only worthwhile full priced purchase on my account is Portal 2. :((((

its on the steam forums.

No denying it is a good game, but since getting A+ doesn't guarantee that you will get the achievement is what frustrates me. I need do two more dark world levels, and I'm around 475 seconds. >_>

Yikes. Well I just beat the light world all A+. Only did a couple dark world A+ before by right fingers went numb.

Today's purchases:
  • KOTOR (couldn't resist not buying anything. Also it was still today here).
  • Half Life 2 + Episode 1 + Episode 2 (never played it, in fact never played any FPS).
  • Darksiders (never played any God of War nor any 3D Zelda :p).

Tried Plants vs. Zombies demo a while back, didn't like it :(

Two months? Send a new one. I got a reply in less than a day, and a reply to that reply a couple of hours after that.

is darksiders a good game if i don't like god of war?

Do you like Soul Reaver? I find that it is more similar to that than Zelda or GoW. I personally didn't like it found it to be derivative, devoid of any original ideas and incredibly generic.

Well I might do that right away in the morning. Too tired now.

Is it possible to change my email by disabling the Steam Guard just for a little while?

Haven't done this first hand yet, but it sounds like you can buy it through GFWL on the Steam version. I hope that's true, because I bought it today just to play the DLC.

What are the odds that the The longest Journey collection becomes a daily deal? It's tempting at its current price but I think I might wait it out.
Almost nothing. At the most you'd be saving like 5%.

Always, always wise to wait unless you're eager to play it right this second. You never know, sometimes the most random game will pop up in a daily.

edit: Oh geez, it's already 6.24? Forget what I said, Stu is right. Just buy it. It's not like it's going to drop to a dollar.

Welp, nothing to buy for myself again today. I've bought all of the games that interest me in sales before- kinda feels like we're seeing the same titles again and again.

You all should get Plants VS Zombies though. It kept me playing way longer than I expected (since there's lots to do when you complete it too!)

Kinda weak that there aren't any graphics options besides V-Sync for Darksiders. Fortunately it looks pretty good.

Very impressed with Bioshock's visual. It still holds up great.

I share this opinion. The level design especially is unbelievably boring. Just corridors, more corridors and (in hl2) about 5 hours of boat boredom.

Yeah, I don't really like HL either ^^
Let's not even mention the boat sequences.

It's a pretty poor port technically unless your PC already meets the requirements. Even then it has issues. The UI is also kind of carp for PC. Very good game with a controller mind.

i remember playing the soul reaver demo on ps1 and thinking it was pretty good back in the day. that was like 15 years ago though

then again i'm not a fan of 3d zelda or gow

i'll probably buy it
