Steam Summer Sales Thread: remember: you can actually play after buying

No, you have to do that to enter the contest manually. They basically have to give the option of letting you enter the sweepstakes without buying stuff, so you can send them a letter via mail and get entered without doing all this other stuff. The entries you get via the Summer Camp achievements are granted to you automatically.

Damn! Wouldn't have bothered with playing games if I knew, waste of precious shopping time...

GAF CHEATS

Their loss. Valve knows about the exploit and if you read the fine print in the contest rules it says if you're found circumventing things or whatever to get tickets you'll be disqualified from the contest. So LOL, thanks for giving me a better shot at winning free games suckers.

Wait, how exactly did they cheat?

There's a save file over on the Steam boards that unlocks the achievement. Each level is beat with with times of less than a second. It's pretty obvious to figure out who cheated and who didn't.

That's Meat devs fault not steam/Valves. I downloaded a save file, and didn't intend to exploit the leader board.

I gave up on anything over maybe 4-5 gigs until way after the sale. I mean, Bioshock 2, Darksiders are 9 gigs. Borderlands is 12. Christ they are huge. It's either that or I wait until the evening to download overnight.

At least the indie/smaller titles download pretty fast. Even Magicka is only about 800 MB.

Well, Magicka/Bioshock/MeatBoy/AvP/Darksiders put me over the hundred dollar mark, at this rate I'll probably end up at over $400

I picked up Bionic Cmmando Rearmed and Modern Warefare 2 and having issues with both.

Bionic Commando Rearmed has aweful screen tearing. I have enabled Vsync with and without triple buffering in the ATI control panel since I can't find it in game, and it doesn't help. I have tried D3D overrider, and it doesn't help at all. Anyone know if/how to fix this?

Modern Warfare 2's diaologue during the campaign is very quiet while the rest of the sounds are normal. I have checked the volume levels and all appear ok. I am running Win 7 64 bit using an audigy xfi card. I have tried disabling and enabling all options in the Creative control panel and running the game in xp compatablity mode.

Any help with these would be great.

Anyone?

I'm shocked that Secret of the Magic Crystals game isn't in the top 10 best sellers for how often I've seen it given out as a joke gift.

I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?
I have successfully talked myself out of Bioshock 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, now I just need to convince myself I don't need Darksiders and I'll be all set. Until tomorrow.

Wow, I thought I was bad by not paying much attention and I've only maybe gotten 70$ up to today :\

Just Bioshock 2 and the Longest Journey double pack for me today. Getting Bioshock 2 made me go ahead and start the first game that I got during the holiday sale. I was completely not feeling the game with K+M so switched the 360 controller and love it that way, weird. The mouse just felt way too loose no matter how I adjusted it.

Don't get too comfy. Bioshock 2 has no pad support at all.

FWIW It's not just you. A lot of people have issues with how the mouse feels in the Bioshock games.

You're missing out, BFBC2 is still fantastic... started playing again the past few days and love it as much as ever.

Decided not to get Magicka. Didn't feel like playing the "is it gonna work for me lottery" especially after looking at the Steam forum.

I've hit my limit of Super Meat Boy today. Still need to A+ 4-11x, 19x and 20x. My right thumb and index finger are blistery and red.

Feels good man.

At least you're doing it the right way, hopefully everyone downloading the save file with everything already done get banned from the contest/stripped of their ticket.

Not to be a dick or anything, but Valve has no way of knowing that the user imported a save file. They can't access the users individual game, so there's no possible way they could know that the completed levels are not their own.

So... Fable III, Yay or Nay ?

I watched that Angry Joe Show video and he seems to exaggerate his points... Anyone with the game can give his opinion ?

I've seen instances where the demo will work and the game won't or vice versa. Pass for now, maybe later in the year.

The demo is pretty much the latest build of the game.

Not even gonna bother with the SMB ticket because I'm only on world 1 or 2 lol. Picked up Darksiders though, as I wasn't able to get it last year. First game get!

If you liked the prior games, I'd say go for it. I'm gonna wait until it's a little bit lower in price, personally.

I feel the same way. Bioshock is just better with the gamepad.

So, Magicka. Is it better to bite on the daily deal or is the "complete" package version worth it for all the DLC? Or should I just get the daily and only download the good DLC?

What was that spiral knights achievement that they removed? i was just buying bombs like crazy
You need to own a Firecracker bomb, it will likely come back in a few days.

Damn that Super Meat Boy achievement. Took almost 4 hours to A+ dark world and then cut down a bunch of my other times. 4-8x alone probably took the most time of any of them for me. So on that note, where are people getting their total Hell times from? I didn't see anything from the in-game leaderboards or stats, I think...ended up calculating that myself !

I'm working on the Meat Boy achievement at the moment. How do I get an A+ in Babylon (last level light world)?

There's this bit where there's rising lava that adds at least 10s to my total.

It's possible to get there when the lava is descending the first time. Example.
