Controller and mouse? o_O

I've never heard of that before. Sounds... uncomfortable. How does that even work?

Controller held with the left hand, mouse the right.

Move with the stick, plus you have the left bumper, left trigger, d-pad, and stick click for buttons.

Mouse does what it normally does. Though the more side buttons you have, obviously, the better this system will work.

Hm.. I suppose that could work, especially if you had a 5 button mouse.

I'll stick to KB/M or just joypad personally though :p

Weird. Do games support this, or do you have to use something like xpadder to map up on the stick to w, left on the stick to d, etc.?

I bought RE5 and kind of wish I didn't. Even with triple buffering, the game tears so much it's basically too distracting to play. I don't have this problem with any other game... tried in-game v-sync etc, changes nothing. Really annoyed :/

No thanks, I have it. Just didn't get it with HL2.

Perhaps Bentendo could benefit from your generosity though.

Witcher 2 is the one I really want to play, but I'm going to have self control and go through the first one before I play that because I've been meaning to do it for a while. Glad I could pick up both this sale for £30.

I'd say you made the right decision. I started playing TW2 at a mate's place when it released and the very first conversation you engage in is with a guard that grills Geralt about the events of the original game. I'm unsure if your answers have a noticeable impact on the events that are to unfold throughout TW2, but the simple fact that I couldn't answer such relatively simple questions with any degree of certainty prompted me to play through the original game. And I don't regret it in the slightest.

Doubt it will go that low. If you can find it for $9.99 pick it up since its steamworks you will activate it on Steam anyway.

It was also 10$ on D2D a few weeks back so it wouldn't surprise me if it went that low on Steam.

The Witcher 1 is a great game. Some people don't have the patience for it, but overall I enjoyed it as much as I did the sequel and it's a lengthy game to boot.

Anyone else getting "this game is currently unavailble" messages? I'm only getting it with The Witcher and that's the one game I've been wanting to play all day.

:(
Did you try the usual things? Verify local content. delete 'ClientRegistry.blob' from the Steam folder? ETc.

To the guy who changed ISPs, that should not effect your steam account at all. As long as you have access to the email account linked to your steam account, you should be able log into Steam from any PC, download the client, and start downloading/playing games.

I tried the demo ages ago and hated the combat, but since then I've heard that the game totally makes up for that so I'm going to grit my teeth and stick with it.

... when I can play it. -_-

Edit: Yes I did, to the above poster.

I rarely use it, but I've not had problems with any modern games I've tried it with (and have support for the 360 controller). You just have to remap your movement and action keys with controller keys in the custom settings. Maybe there's the odd ball game that will require you to choose either mouse or controller, but the vast majority of games let you do whatever you want.

Were you running triple buffering through D3D?

I love k/m, but I think it would be awesome if there were more PC accessories similar to the Wii nunchuck. It would accomplish what you're saying here, but be much more comfortable.

The combat definitely isn't it's strong point but I think if you can plough through the prologue and the so-so first chapter, it will suck you in.

I didn't like Witcher 1 either, the game had way too much back tracking for my taste. By chapter 3 I was running back and forth like an errand boy. Witcher 2 on the other hand has good pacing and is short.

Anyone else getting shocking download speeds? It was going at about 80kb/s before. When I started downloading 2 things they both dropped to about 12kb/s. It's going to take me all week. I've tried switching to all different servers but they all suck. Yesterday was fine for me too.

At least push yourself to reach the opening of the first chapter (in other words, complete the Prologue). I, too, hated the combat to begin with, but once I gave the system a fair shake it stopped bothering me and I appreciated every other aspect of the game... which CDPR just so happened to nail down tight.

Needless to say, buried beneath a questionable combat system is an utterly brilliant WRPG that should -- nay, will absorb you.

I got Bioshock 2 yesterday. Does anyone know how to open the LIVE guide without a home key? I'm playing through bootcamp on my Macbook Pro, and I can't open the guide. :/

Damage so far isn't too bad:
Back to the Future
Magicka
Darksiders

Already more than I bought during the Christmas sale, I think. I have like 250 digital games, so most interesting things that go on sale I already have :p

Poke around in the main menu, there's usually a button in there that brings up the dash iirc.

Don't suppose you have a 360 controller? That's how I always access Live even when I'm using m/k or wheel.

I can't get AvP to go past this strange black menu screen bug, apparently it happens with older ati cards and out of date drivers, but I have neither of those.

Left-handed flight stick + Mouse?

:p

The only thing I'm not too fond of for PC shooters is having digital movement with WASD. I like my analog stick there.

Any regrets so far?

While I love the back to the future franchise, I'm not feeling the game so far. Its too easy and somewhat janky. $12.50 that may have been better spent elsewhere.

I'm going to assume that's just the ATI panel? The ATI/Nvidia panels only enable triple buffering when the game is running OpenGL. You need to download D3DOverider if you want triple buffering in DirectX games.

I've been getting terrible download speeds as well. Yesterday, it took hours for the download to even start (even while switching servers). Today it hasn't been as bad. Early this morning I was getting around 900 KB/s, but it has dropped to 100 KB/s over the course of the day. This is my first Steam sale, but from what I understand this comes with the territory.

Ahh... man. I knew this was going to happen, but I didn't think it would happen so SOON: My hard drive is full :(

I'm running a mac, so I play most of my Steam games by booting into Win7 via bootcamp. To do this, you have to partition your hard drive - one section for OSX, one for Win7. Since I use OSX much more often (all day long) and Win7 just for games, I made the Win partition 200GB, and the OSX partition 500GB.

Now those 200GB are already almost completely full. This wouldn't be a huge deal, except this computer is still very new (just a few months old). So I know that this is going to be a problem I'll be wrestling with for at least the next few years.

It's not like I'm not without options. I wasn't wild about The Witcher and it's 14GB for example. But I think if I uninstall it that's basically admitting I'll never be touching it again... which I'm not yet ready to do, for any games.

How does Steam backups work? Is it slick/seamless? I've never tried it before. Maybe I can just dump some of the games I won't be getting to any time soon on an external...

Edit: Download speeds will fluctuate. I'm getting 150-200K right now, but my connection was being maxed out earlier.

I picked up Heroes of Might and Magic V yesterday and it's pretty great. there are some annoying interface things but the core game is pretty addictive.

Only the one. I regret buying Super Meat Boy. $7.50 is way too much for that game, especially considering how much more fun I'm having with Bit.Trip Runner having spent under 2 bucks. For $7.50 I could've bought Hoard and Plants vs. Zombies.

I bought HL games but I received some that I don't care about ( Lost Coast and the two Deathmatch ), is there a way to gift them ( I didn't chose the option "buy for someone else" but I didn't install them yet ) ?

RadeonPro is the ATI equivalent to nVidia Inspector. So forcing vsync and triple buffering within that program should work just like D3D.

I have both programs and still just use D3D, so I'm not sure if RadeonPro is just buggy at handling that sort of thing, but it's not limited to OpenGL like the CCC setting.

Slow. Really slow. It takes a while to compress/decompress things. Can you not add another hard drive into it? Newegg often has 1TB Samsung drives on sale for 49.99. Or else look into an external hard drive? Not sure if that compromises performance though.

Does Inspector actually do triple buffering in DX? I've always assumed it was OpenGL only.

SMB's value depends on how much you're going to play it. if you're going to play for 1 hour and just screw around in the first few worlds, then it's not worth much. But if you're going to go for Golden God, you're looking at many many hours of wonderful frustration, an extremely high quality of level design and mechanical variety, and it's absolutely worth $7.50. If there's any gripe about the SMB sale price it's that it's already been lower than $7.50 before.

I tried using steam backups early on and only had issues. It could work wonderfully right now, but I haven't tried using it. Do you have an external hard drive? If you want, you can just copy the data to it for now to clear some space.

Steam backup with an external hdd on usb 3 is pretty slick and seamless.

I use it every single time I download a game and it takes maybe a minute for a 10gb game to backup.
