Can anyone list all the summer achievements that are particularly simples to do (apart from the obvious non gaming ones, such as join the steam summer group)

To give you a clue of the pathetic gamer you're dealing with here, I managed to get the Swords and Soldiers HD achievement, but struggled and failed at both the bit.trip beat and lead and Gold achievements. Any easy ones out there?

most of them are fairly easy - just logon to the specific game forum and there will be a guide/save file. I have all of them except alien breed impact (takes about 3-6 hours with a good coop partner - and yourself being good). Shogun2, Garshasp, Meatboy have save games available. Spacechem, Toki Tori, Defense Grid, Hamiltons Great adventure has youtubes with solutions. The ones where probably you might have a hard time are Lead and Gold, Hoard, AaAaAA!!!, and ofcourse Alien Breed Impact.

Lead and Gold you will need a boosting partner. Team fortress 2 you should be heavy and go to bridge in 2fort and wait for a pyro to set you on fire and jump in water.

I dont have DoW2: Retribution due too being priced gouged on Aussie Steam, but can redeem the prize for when i get the game in the future?

Yes. It was answered in the OP.
You should have asked a kindly GAFfer to send you the game for half the price, as I did :p

Bit Trip Beat is damn easy after they updated it.
When did they update it and what did they do? I loved getting that cheevo, was tough as nails and stressful, but satisfying as fuck.

Farm the Lead and Gold on a server hosted by you. The Teamfortress one is easy too.

Buying the 11 dollar copy of Civ V off gamersgate and activating on Steam was exactly what I love about Steamworks. Following all that, playing it has been a fucking treat and delight. Never got into the series but this one made me a believer.

An amazing deal for a spectacular game. Try the Polynesian DLC pack. They can sail across the ocean on the very first turn!

No previous playtime required:
Team Fortress: find a server with 2fort, pick heavy, go outside
Magicka: you can set the droprates of the chests and what they drop. Let them drop only simple magicks, get rain and spam it

For these you need to have unlocked levels:
Toki Tori: you only need to complete world 1, the easiest. OP has solutions, most of them are very doable, but some require a bit of timing.
Defense Grid: If you are new, you have to complete 10(?) levels first. The achievement maps aren't too hard.

I think it was one day after the launch. You just have to be perfect until the first transmission.

Aside from those mentioned, if you have Iron Grip that one is pretty easy to do, just setup an easy game, put up some machine and anti-tank guns and then just buy everything. Bunker is a solid map for this as it has a wide area to build and mechs and crap.

TF2 is pretty simple, you can pop in and ask on a 2fort 24/7 server and someone will likely do it for you. I saw some people doing that earlier. Or if you have a friend just find an empty one and do it.

The Jolly Rover one can be done in about five minutes. (Just follow a FAQ and the info in the OP if you haven't played through already. You're only "cheating" through the very first two puzzles of the game anyway.)

True, I started playing to get the achievement, and ended up playing the whole thing. Best name: "Pugugly Toydog" aka "Puggy"

This is whats great about these achievement. It actually gets people to play their games :)

Which is also why steam is already miles ahead any other digital distributor, thats a lot of fan service, even though the customer service stuff sucks.

Not only that, though, it's also a social thing. It gets people *talking* about their games, and a shared experience is generally a better experience.

Some achievements are pretty good. I really liked them in Toki Tori and Defense Grid. But achievements like those featured in Magicka are annoying, because it's very unlikely you can get them by normally playing the game.

Just bought Transformers and Torchlight. I went with Transformers over k&l2 for co-op. Hopefully i can get it for the same price later, i want to spend my steam budget on other daily deals.

I really want Assassin's Creed 1, only to see the difference between the PS3 version that I have. Also, I didn't finish it and would like to play a better version.

Question is, is it a good port?

The sure buy for me today is AssCreed 2 though, definitely gonna get that.

Just completed Medal of Honor. 3,9 hours. Not sure if it's worth the €10 I spent on it.
I don't really feel like installing the multiplayer component. Should I?

Cracked and bought Fallout 1 and 2 from GoG before that sale ran out. I guess it's wierd that if they went on sale on Steam for something like 75% as a daily, I'd probably buy them there as well.

Depends. Do you play TF2 or own Battlefield BC2? If the answer is yes then hell no. If the answer is no then use your hard drive space on installing TF2 instead. Will just make it easier on you playing MoH MP for 20 minutes and then deleting it never to be seen again.

Do you hate mouse and keyboard? Or just keyboard? Because there are plenty of games where you could get away with using the controller and mouse. I'm k/m only these days, but I transitioned with Quake 3 on Dreamcast using controller and mouse.

And despite what some snobs will tell you, as long as you don't need more buttons, controller and mouse works just as well k/m. Every once and I while I'll go back and try this setup for the HDTV and it works really great.

I can blindly type about 100 wpm when I'm warmed up. So I know my way around the keyboard too. It's just that the controller works surprising well for the less complex games that don't need 15 button maps.
It's mostly the mouse I don't like. I'm fine with it for strategy games, but it's uncomfortable for FPS. I'm good with the keyboard.

Someone mentioned there were 360 controller options in BC2 on PC. Does the game work *with* the controller giving a slight auto-aim for instance? If so that's perfect.

Should I cave in and buy Defense Grid?
Unless you have tower defense burnout, it seems like a steal for $3.45 (counting the DLC).

Plus, while I haven't really felt it yet, it's supposed to be friendly to new players in how it handles checkpoints and such.

I wonder if today is going to be a blowout in celebration of the 4th, or a recap? Could go either way, really. Valve could figure a lot of people will be away for the day.

Controller gaf will have to answer that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fallout 3 was a daily, since it was a weekend deal or something for the July 4th weekend a year or so ago.

So, I already own vanilla DA:O, but I've barely played it. Do I shell out for Ultimate? I'm agonizing over $10, here. Aargh.

I'm expecting the sales for today to blow it out of the park. I just know it since the US is in a celebratory mood today.
I hope not. I am starting to run out of cash to spend.

BC2 can support the 360 pad but t's not native support, you will need to remap the keys to your liking, I don't think BC2 has aim assist tbh.

I thought I was doing alright spending $40 so far which would have left me $20 then I remembered that I bought SSIVAE.

Already over budget and it's not even halfway :(
