Steam Summer Sales Thread: remember: you can actually play after buying

I liked Men of War and I even liked Soldiers: Heroes of WWII even more. The think is that at a certain point in MoW the scale of combat gets very large (SP) and micromanagement really got into the way of my enjoyment of the game. Is Assault Squad the same as the original of smaller scaled like Soldiers?

From what I hear, MoW seems to be a more complex game of Frozen Synapse. You might want to take a look at that. Its also very tactical but you only have 3-4 soldiers and is very much about playing mindgames with your enemy.

No, they were just too high in price. If I had gotten those I'd be pretty close to done as far as the sale goes.

Edit: Yeah, pretty much what Toma said. *fingers crossed*

Fear 3

I need to find a 10th "value" game to put on the list. Not that I'll ever win, but still. I don't want to kick myself if I did.

EDIT: Added Dirt 3 for the time being.

It's hard to say, without seeing your library.

But, add SPACE MARINE.

Well, I never buy stuff new on steam, in fact around 95% of what I have on steam I have bought on sale at around $5, the only exceptions I can think of is SF4 which I got at $10 and the orange box at $7.50. So yeah, anything that haven't gotten around that price I don't have, but again i don't want to add stuff that is relatively cheap nowadays (less than $25) since sooner rather than later I'll get that on a sale

I won Portal 2 on the Potato Sack Race on GAF :)

I'll keep Space Marine in mind but I don't know much about it, I guess I'll have to investigate a little

I don't have Bloodlines in there because I want to believe!!

StuBurns said:
Red Orchestra 2 is wishlistable also if that's your cup of tea.

Is that a music game? well, added to my to-investigate-first-list

Alice 2?

From a value point of view, you should just add all the CoD games to your wishlist since they drop in price the slowest.

I already pre ordered Human Revolution after watching videos of that leaked preview version. Its $44 on D2d and you can bring it down to $37 or so with the 15% off discount code

Back when I pre ordered it, the Canadian dollar was stronger compared to the US dollar, so my price was $36.

thanks for the laugh

assault squad is definitely more infantry centric. its entirely multiplayer orientated too, so you'll almost always finding yourself concerned with a small corner of the battlefield.

That's a nice list

I have them all on 360, so they're discarded on my end

I have a feeling Portal 2 won't be on daily deal until the last days. It has been on the top ten since it started. Why discount it more if people are buying?

Do people recommend all the introversion games? I bought uplink a month ago and absolutely loved it and I've been waiting for Defcon/Darwinia/Multiwinia to go on sale ever since. Are they all the same level of quality as uplink?

There's not much to compare between these 2 games other than both feature guns.

Think of Men of War Assault Squad as Company of Heroes: Realism Mode. Also, Assault squad has no single player campaign, only multiplayer and co-op skirmish maps (though these can be played in single player), so take that into account. The game is totally worth it for the co-op alone, imo.

Here's a nice impression of the game: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/02/18/review-men-of-war-assault-squad/

I played and ejoyed Darwinia, but that was a few years ago. I doubt my memory would fail me this badly, so I recommend Darwinia. Lovely art style from what I remember.

Finally played Iron Grip after owning it for who knows how long. It's a pretty neat idea but Monday Night Combat and Sanctum do it so much better.

OK I bought it. Damn my self control!! $6.79 is a fantastic price though! Damn you STEAM! :p

$11.75 left in my wallet out of $50. I need to make these last 1 or 2 purchases really count GAF. Help me be strong!

I also loved UpLink. I tried Darwinia in the past, but didn´t like it.
Except for the vector-like gfx, nothing really caught my attention. It reminded me a bit of populous 3,except it was worse :( . Maybe the multiplayer version is better, never tried that one.
My 2 cents!

Same. I liked it for the style but there werent too much interesting gameplay elements to put it above other RTS.

Defcon is great. I didn't like Darwinia as much.

There's a demo of Darwinia, so Sixghost could try it to see for themselves. I mean I liked Darwinia, but what camp could Sixghost be in? Only Sixghost can tell.

Surprised by darksiders. A while back when I was bored and still was playing consoles i picked it up on the bargain bin. I never made it past the first area after losing powers. It felt like really cheesy god of war clone at the start. Maybe the were trying to wow people in a demo or something. But the entire game is more like metroid with god of war combat, and a few zeldaish puzzles.

PC version runs better than on consoles on my system. But the framerate isn't solid 60fps. Really bad port. But my PC is fast enough to make up for that so that it looks like it did on the consoles with less tearing, better image quality, 1080p.

Give it an 8.5/10. Gameplay is solid. I don't think I've ever been annoyed by a developer design platforming or gameplay flaw, which is surprising. Only the cheesy story and B level production values hold it back.

Just got update to Galcon Fusion, so it will be probably today task.

Also got an update for And Yet It Moves, an excellent platformer. (but quite tricky)

And Beat Hazard - though that was likely considering the prize/s available (I expect the games for prizes to have tasks...)

It's great, I've been tempted to double dip, but I'm going to wait till it's cheaper.

Very interesting at first, then it becomes quite repetitive . I would wait to get it in some indie pack

The top 10 of my wishlist currently looks like this:
1. Max and the Magic Marker
2. Assassin's Creed II
3. Two Worlds II
4. Swords and Soldiers HD
5. Altitude
6. Half-Life 2: Lost Coast (for some reason Mac gamers can't take advantage of the Nvidia free giveaway deal, even though my Mac has Nvidia graphics and can play the rest of Half-Life 2 and all other Source games)
7. Dangerous High School Girls In Trouble!
8. Jolly Rover
9. Atlantis Sky Patrol
10. Bejeweled 3

Also, Darksiders is a BLAST, thank you to everyone who recommended it.

Might be, but since the sale started I had probably about 10 BH updates.

Only if you approach sandbox gameplay with an imagination. Like Scribblenauts there is an easy solution to most levels. The fun of the game is making that weird solution.

Does this mean you can't purchase it, or that you can't run it?

You can still buy it.

Notice: We are currently out of CD Keys for this title which will result in the "Failed to contact Key Server" error message upon launch. We hope to have more keys in place as soon as possible.

But sometimes it takes awhile before new keys come in. Typically it's just a few days.

I hope people are not just looking at the front page for sales/deals...Syberia 1&2 together is like $8 and Dreamfall and Longest Journey is like $7.
I grabbed the Longest Journey package the other day. Checked my wishlist to see what was on sale and jumped on that one. Looking forward to them, after as many great things I constantly hear about the titles.

Tale of Tales has a package deal for $5.49.
I didn't get it, but I did buy The Path for $2.50.

It will be my Alice: Madness Returns replacement until that goes on sale proper.
Skimming through the full lists right now to see if anything else catches my eye.
