Didn't see anyone reply so I'll try again. Does COD 4 have pad support? I already had it gifted to me but I can't play it for a while so I'd like to know whether I should feel bad about it or not.

So what kind of RPG elements do the STALKER games have? Isn't the game supposed to be like Fallout 3?

Really the only RPG element's are the inventory and quest system. It's similar in to Fallout 3 in that they're both FPS set in a open world nuclear wasteland, but the combat mechanics are where the games really differentiate. Fallout 3 is slow and clumsy and STALKER is really a shooter through and through.

I liked Fallout 3 a lot but STALKER IMO is better in pretty much every way.

Alright, my video card is ATI Mobility Radeon 4200 Series. The requirements for King Arthur are Nvidia 6600 (256Mb) / ATI Radeon X700 (256Mb). Is my graphics card good enough and can you tell me how I can tell if it is for future reference?

Isn't STALKER a FPS game? Do people seriously prefer gamepad over kb/m when it comes to FPS? I mean, there's such thing as preference, but I can't really wrap my head around that.

Guess I'll just get the NFS pack today, given that EA region pricing makes it the same as just buying Shift 2 on it's own. Would be better if I could get it without Undercover D:

cheaper in the US, maybe someone can help out

Much obliged, I know some other folks are asking about that too.
Yeah the 360 controller works, though there is no preset for it. Having not played it on the 360, I don't know how well the default Gamepad option is handled, but it names it 360 gamepad in the controls menu after changing the device layout.

I searched around and apparently it's like playing the 360 version. Retail may handle it better, but I could shoot planes down and fly around decently.

I guess i'm kinda meh on Stalker at the moment. I haven't really heard anything outside of 'its good'.

This kind of spoils one mission in an attempt to describe why I like Call of Pripyat so much:

There are a bunch of heavily equipped soldiers holed up in a warehouse. Somewhere inside is something that you need. The first time I played it I assaulted the thing early on in broad daylight. I was drastically under-equipped and it was a ridiculously hard fight, but worth it in the end because of all of the crazy equipment I looted. The second time I played it I knew how hard it was going in, so I did a bunch of other quests first so that I would have better weapons and armor. I came across the warehouse at night from a different angle and noticed a pipe I could climb through. I popped out in the middle of the warehouse, grabbed the thing I needed and ran like hell without killing anyone, which I realized afterwards I could have done early on if I had come at night and bothered to properly scope the place out. It's one of the most open-ended shooters I've ever played, and it constantly rewards you for thinking on the move and paying attention to your surroundings. Plus it's the best urban explorer simulator around.

Some people like analog movement in place of WASD. Again, some people are just plain weird.

Is there a special server any of us new Guild Wars players should join? I know this game is all instanced up and stuff, but there still must be some kind of server, right?

Second this...and do a lot of people still play? I played it back when it first came out but never touched any expansions. Might pick it back up for shits and giggles if it's worth it.

Bought the 3 S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games today. I assume going in order of release is best?

As long as you start with Shadow of Chernobyl I don't think it really matters IMO.

Actually yes, play Clear Sky second so you can end on a fantastic note with Pripyat!

So...

Does Guild Wars still have a playerbase ?

Its player base is still surprisingly big. Last weekend was the "Dragon festival", and there were easily 50+ districts (instances) of cities, each with 100+ players.
Most players will be playing solo with their heroes (customizable AI companions). If you want to play in groups you'll have to stick to the daily missions (which have extra rewards).

Its Derpy Civ, simple as that. Its boring, simplistic, and easily cracked. But it looks pretty and doesn't require the user to put much thought into winning at lower difficulty levels so its more "user friendly".

Like I said in this same thread days ago, I'd buy Civ IV complete at its full MSRP of $29.99 well before I'd recommend Civ V at the $11 sale it was on late last week. With Steam having Civ IV Complete down to $20.99 and Civ V at $24.99 its not even a real choice.

How would you put CoD4 in anything but the "avoid" category at $10 when significantly more people aren't suddenly going to flood the multiplayer component and for almost the same price you could get all three STALKER games and enjoy a far superior single player component in every way?

I could see moving CoD4 out of the "avoid" category if it was somewhere between $2.50-$5.00, but at $10 its not a good buy at all.

hahahah

I think by the end of this sale, I'll have most of what I want. I resent Steam for not having System Shock 2 and Crysis 2 though.

Just bought Deus Ex and the Stalker games.

One question on Deus Ex. I remember hearing there is a high res pack. Can that be applied to the Steam files?

Stalker would be hard as balls on a gamepad. You really need to go for headshots, tilt your head around corners, etc. It demands a lot of fine-precision over your movements.

yeah, come back when your backlog is 200+ deep!@#

Now that's more like it

When you look at your game list and think to yourself, "you know, I will probably be dead before I finish some of these games," then it's a backlog

In a very strange twist of fate, the package costs the same.
HP and Shift 1 are cheaper individually in the US though.

Jesus, no wonder Dennis' ego is as big as it is.
His screenshots are also downsampled from 1600p, I don't know if people actually believe that's how the games look or that's what he sees when playing.

Want to buy Hazard Ultra & Stalker, but steam says that I can't buy the games because I need another game to buy those two. What....
