I'll probably just get Monkey Island today. I only have a few adventure games and I enjoyed the second one on my iPod, but quit fairly early on because I can't stand playing games on iOS devises.

He's confusing megabytes and megabits. A 30 Mbit speed test = 3 Megabytes down in practice.

Nobody with Comcast is downloading 30 megabytes a second.

Thank God! 30MB down you'd have to be in Japan or Korea or some shit. Maybe on a University T1 or T3 line but I don't know what those would max out at off hand.

I only played Stalker; Shadow of Chernobyl. Bit rough around the edges, but I loved it. The first few underground labs were tense.

I think I'm gonna get Beat Hazard, but damn it's busy

I hear all these complaints about diplomacy and I can't help but think of the real world. That's pretty bs and cutthroat too. Sounds like they've got it down pretty good.

That would be about as real world as Britain suddenly turning around and declaring war on the USA in the middle of the Iraq invasion. I'm fine with sudden moves with countries you don't have particularily strong ties to, but to smooze and cuddle with your bestest friend country in the world for half the game and then all of a sudden have him team up with the country that you both hate the most to bring down your utter destruction? That's just broken.

The AI's in 4 definitely have a lot more personality which you learn the more you play. God damn montezuma being a prick and Japan being so damn hard to convince into your bed.

I thought comcast had some hefty plans for the wealthy that would easily push past 30mb/s. Even around here you can get 250/15 which puts your right near 30MB/s.

That's the order they released in and I guess the order they should be played. CoP and Clear Sky could be switched, it doesn't really matter. But Clear Sky is a prequel to the other two.

Oh I didn't know it was a prequel. In that case I guess I'll save it for last.

I really need to start playing SoC when I get my computer running again.

Yep.

It's fast enough but I need MOAR :p

Could somebody maybe provide a quick list of games that always go on sale, but have yet to be featured as a daily deal for this sale? I'm basically at the point where if I buy something today i'll no longer be able to afford the id super pack, so I need to determine if there's anything coming up that I may want more than that.

Does Steam intentionally throttle download speeds on smaller games? This happens to me all the time.

Seems like it, I just started downloading HL2 (because it told me ten times servers were busy when I tried to start PoP 2008), which funnily and not suspiciously started on the first try, shot up to over half a MB/s immediatly, which is still slow compared to the theoretical speed this connection could do, while Torchlight is still stuck at ~40 KB/S.

It has been telling me that´s it´s done in 5 minutes for half an hour. Heh. At least it´s down to 1 min left now.

It could defiantly do with a rehauled UI, but the gunplay and overworld exploration are top-notch.

Shaw in Western Canada offers 250mbps lines, which would be 31.25MB/s, for around $70/mo.

anyone else having issues with steam?

I purchased Stalker Cop and Clear sky but did not get a receipt ( I was at home during lunch when I did this).

Im at work now trying to install steam to office computer but it wont send out the steam guard email so I can put that into steam to log in.

I also noticed I did not receive email receipts for my purchases today when I normally get them instantly (as I did yesterday when I purchased Alpha Protocol and Frozen Synapse).

Ive already put in a ticket with steam support, I just hope my account did not get hacked...kinda anxious to get back home now and check though.

if you guys want me to stop spamming this just say so :p

I'd like to but I have money locked into my steam wallet. So I'll probably just spend the 17 as if I went outside my steam wallet I'd, in total, be spending more.

Yeah, no kidding. I've been checking it daily just to make sure I'm not getting close.

It's really a shame, I feel like ISP's advertise in Megabits just so they can use bigger numbers and purposely mislead consumers. No one actually measures bandwidth in megabits like that :\

I hope they've fixed the Steam versions of STALKER SoC and CoP. CoP, in particular, loaded incredibly slowly (like 2 minute load times), and would freeze and stutter a lot during gameplay.

I had to download the cracked .exe for it to work properly. It then loaded in 10-15 seconds and ran perfectly.

10gigs in 1 hour is insane to me. Just curious, what is everyone's average DL speeds from Steam? Also, what max speed does your service provide?

I pay for 6mb down (in the process of upgrading to 12mb), get about half of that or 3mb down when using a speed test. My average Steam speed is 500kb though...been more like 350kb this week.

My d/l speeds are usually around 800kb

I didn't get an email receipt with my purchases today either, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Edit: didn't see the bit about not getting Steam Guard emails. Maybe worry a little bit..

Good lord how did you come across that pricing? They're 50/5 plan standalone is more than that. If I was well off I'd totally go for the 250/5. I actually have to find an ISP for my new house that i'm moving into in two weeks. The new shaw plans are shitty for the fact that there is no middle plan really anymore. Even their dial-up like plan is the same 75$/month that the 50/5 plan is. I might try to see if I can score a students plan although i'm kind of not a student this year. I'd be happier with 25/2.5 for half the price.

SoC is smooth as butter here now that I disabled vsync across the board. Like almost no loading times.

The UI feels very odd tho. I almost get the impression that it wasn't meant for widescreen monitors. It's probably my biggest complaint.

250, actually. I've never hit it myself, averaging around 75-150 a month across three to four PCs.

I said fuck it and bought Monday Night Combat out of impulse with my friends, it looks good. Someone want to tell me about it?

With AT&T I usually can only download at about 300kb/s and I have a 150 gig cap, but I'm not able to check my data usage so who knows how close I come or if I've even gone over. I'm not paying overage charges if I can't track my own bandwidth while the company is tracking it.

Monday Night Combat is a great game, and if anybody would like to try it out first before buying it, I have a guest pass available. PM me for it.

I'm not in Western Canada, sadly. I'm stuck with awful Rogers, where I pay $70/mo for 25mbps and a 120GB cap.

I guess Shaw must have backed from their 250mbps plans...I can't see them on their site anymore. When they were advertising their new plans, they have 250mbps unlimited for $120, I thought. :|

Still, 100mbps and 500GB cap for $70 isn't too bad.

Unfortunate that hot pursuit doesn't have the DLC but after seeing it on the screenshot thread on PC I don't think I will care.

A lot of folks are missing receipts or having receipts show up late (myself included). I would wait until the dust has settled and the sale has passed before worrying, unless you absolutely need it immediately as though you were some sort of responsible adult.

Yikes, I would be destroying that every month. Glad Time Warner backed off their cap plans.

It guess it's a matter of role-playing vs player-like AI, which creates the more interesting experiences in a single-player game? In Civ4 you can create powerful "artificial" bonds through religion etc that wouldn't really beneficial to them, but it does make for some interesting choices, sticking with your own magic man in the sky or joining an alliance.

Civ5 was clearly designed with an AI that's out to win the game. The problem with this approach is that it makes friendly relations much less meaningful (if you're ahead, they hate you, if you're behind, they want to conquer you), and the AI just comes off as irrational even though there might be some good reasoning going on below. It might work better if they could give you some better explanation of their actions (this might have been something they tweaked in the latest patch in fact, I haven't played that much since), rather than just suddenly going from loving to hating you.

(As an aside, something that I found quite hilarious is that if you make a declaration of friendship and they backstab you through a denouncement, YOU get a penalty with all the other civs, "you must be a really shitty friend!")

For Civ to be fun even when you get crushed half-way through there needs to be interesting stories made, and in that regard I think Civ5 does a bit worse than Civ4. If there ever is an expansion to Civ5 I certainly hope it's focused on diplomacy and trade to promote interaction beyond pointy sticks.

Soren Johnson (lead designer on Civ4) did a talk at Google last year, "Playing to Lose", you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJcuQQ1eWWI

...Oh. Right. Steam sale. Buy some shit.
