Steins;Gate |OT| Name Subject to Change

If you remember my posts from a few pages back, you'll know that I said I was struggling massively with getting through the first chapter because of how slow and laboured everything was. I was on the verge of ditching the game entirely. Well I decided to press on and I'm at the beginning of chapter 6 now. Conversations still have a tendency to go on much longer than they should, but after seeing just how real shit got at the end of
chapter 5
, I'm glad I rode it out pass that rough patch. Things are getting really interesting now.
Fuck you Moeka you evil bitch!

Just watched the Steins;Gate Drama CD gamma, because calc said it's "the closest we'll get to a
Moeka ending
". I assume this was originally just a voice recording, because if so, mad props to the translators for going the extra mile. It was amusing for what it was and I enjoyed it, helps that it was only an hour long anyway.
So you have a link to that?

Good to know, Quabba and Hamchan. Guess I'll grab the Chapter 6 and 7 endings by reloading saves on this playthrough and then start another one to get the true ending.

In Chapter 10 it felt like I could have made a decision that would have led to a
Kurisu-based
ending, but that never came, unless it was during a very short, easily missable interval. Or maybe this is part of WhirlwindMonk's fourth "near-true" ending.

Should I reload from
Chapter 4
to do this or just start at the beginning, using a guide so I can also get those ridiculously-obscure ringtones and wallpapers? Somehow I only managed to get 1 of 13 RaiNet stories, though I got 2 of 3 for one of the other collectibles.

If you want the extra collectible then you'll have to start from the beginning, sometimes you have to select a response to get one them reload and choose the other response to get the other.

Does anyone know or remember if Rice Digital charges the credit card and remove the funds at the moment the order is made or if they charge when it's shipped?

OP needs to be updated since the release date for US is set for August 25th.

I'm a big fan of the anime, so I really want to pick this up. I want the Platinum Trophy on my profile.

I'm actually wondering if that's the actual date at this point- it's up on Amazon now but lists the date as the 31st instead of the 25th. Hopefully it's just a mistake in the listing and it didn't get delayed a week.

OH MY GOD.

I reached an ending, the one where you leave with Suzuha to 1975. I was shocked at first (it's over?!). I did not want to get spoiled so I read nothing about the game online before. But once I did I now know that you can use the phone in much more ways than I thought. I thought you could only reply to text messages. What I did not know is that in chapter 6 you CAN actually send that D-mail to Suzuha...... Thank GOD I have tons of saves :-D

But seriously, is there any way finding this out without a guide?! This game is much more complex then I thought (which is pretty awesome).

It's almost impossible to get all of the endings without a guide, and more than impossible to get the true ending without a guide.

That little blinking icon that tells you you can advance the text changes when you can pull out your phone and take an action. There are a couple other times this happens, but they never explain this to you, so it's sort of a "Hope you notice and figure out what it means!" thing.

Yeah it's a bit lame they don't tell you...

But I had a feeling something was up so I saved very often in different slots. Going to use the flowcharts from now on :).

When that happens Okabe pretty much says
"I should send the text" over and over again to the point where I thought it was going to loop endlessly unless I pulled out the phone myself. It actually took me longer to figure out that if you just continued without pulling out your phone something different happens
.

I had that same feeling playing through it as well.

I think I'm gonna watch the anime (bought the Blu Ray) to satisfy my curiousity in a quick way and than go back to the game.

I'm pretty sure it all but explicitly tells you that that's what you have to do, I just deliberately chose not to because I thought I could find a better way to solve the problem.

The icon at the end of the text changes to a red light whenever you can make these decisions. It makes getting the first few endings a disappointingly linear experience.

Nope!

All the endings are extremely obvious when they branch out, the choice is shoved in your face whenever it's about to happen. The only thing that needs heavy guidance is the true ending.

So I followed the flow chart to try and get the true ending and apparently you're only meant to get the option to say "where are you" on the roof if you have 5/6 flags to activate the last one. I did so but I'm still getting the Kurisu ending. Am I doing something wrong? Playing on Vita.

Depends, because
true ending starts off the same as Kurisu ending, but the true route fully starts after 20 seconds or so after the credits roll. Credits music will be diff if on true route compared to Kurisu ending.

Just realised I had to keep waiting during the credits!

Wow that was amazing. This may very well be the best visual novel I've ever read.
I'm hoping Steins;Gate 0 doesn't take years to be localized. I'd love for it to come out within a few months of the Japanese release.... And maybe a localization of Robotic;Notes, Chaos;Head or Chaos;Child to fill the time! ;)

I finished and platinumed SG last week. It was my first VN in my life and after that want more. Brilliant just brilliant story. Now I hope SG0 will be release as fast as possible in English.

Doesn't that only appear after you get an ending? I never noticed it until I got the Suzuha ending.

Totally never realised that only appeared after you'd had an ending. I understand a little more now how some people missed the opportunity to
send the E-mail to Suzuha
and avoid that ending. Still seems like it was quite obvious that the decision was yours to make though.

So got 5 out of 6 endings including the true one.

May stop here, but in a VN mood.

Any recommendation for another visual novel (preferably on ps3/ps4/VITA) ?

Already did VLR/999/Corpe party (if considered a VN).

I'm assuming you already played Danganronpa? Not 100% within the definition of a traditional VN like Stein's Gate but close enough.

Well, Hatoful Boyfriend did just hit PSN for PS4/Vita.

No news from my copy and Rice Digital just replied that they don't have tracking info for the upcoming limited edition, so I'm not getting that either. I guess I'm stuck with a standard copy from VGP+ when it's out late August.

Both of them. Loved them. Seems to be a ton in Japan. Why are so few localized ?

Localization costs for something that's just full of text can get pretty big,

Anyway, what kind of VN would you like to play/read? Do you have a genre preference? Would you prefer something with gameplay or do you not care if it's text only? How much porn is too much?

EDIT: Yeah this line of conversation might be better served in the VN thread. Go there.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
I loved 999/Virtue's Last Reward and the Danganronpa games.

How similar is Stein's;Gate to those games? Is there a central mystery with great characters?

I'd say Steins;Gate is very similar in that way, but don't expect to be solving puzzles or anything, it's practically all reading. I personally like the cast of Steins;Gate more than any of those games you mentioned, and that's partially because it puts a big focus on the characters and their development, though there's also a lot of interesting scientific theory involved, along with conspiracy theories based on real world occurrences. It has a slow start, but past a certain point it gets really gripping and hard to put down.

Got my first ending with Suzuha, which was by turns
very twisted but ultimately uplifting. I was hoping the story would follow them into the past, but alas. Would love to have seen how they handled living in 1975 but I suppose you've got to leave some things up in the air.
I guess my next plan of action is to go back to the decision point in chapter 6 and choose the other option now.

Does anyone know if Amazon US is including the artbook that was with the UK limited edition? Oh and what's the deal with PQube saying the release date is 8/25 and Amazon saying 8/31?

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
I don't think they are. It doesn't seem to be mentioned on the product page nor was it mentioned on the US trailer as I recall.

999, VLR and Danganronpa 1 & 2 were my previous experiences with this genre (you could maybe count Ace Attorney?), too and I loved it. It certainly is way less interactive than any of those and I think it also does not use the medium as well as in particular VLR. Still, the story is great, outside of a few cringe-worthy aspects and I can recommend it if you like science fiction :).

The characters imo are better than in all games above, but still clichéy. The game is packed with strange otaku-culture content though, way more than the others, so if you have a problem with that, it might hurt your experience. There are a few open questions that only get answered at the very end, but the game is not so much about solving a big mystery.

The first half of the game is my favourite, it may start slow, but this part is all about the adventures of discovery, then afterwards, you get more or less one chapter focused on one character at a time and the story feels a bit samey for those chapters, sadly, but the big finale (use a guide to reach it...) is exciting again.

Well,
my problem is actually just the first time, why was the fiber line there the first time this timeline happened. Why would there be a connection in the first place? Let's say that this timeline is a conversion that happened because SERN send a D-Mail back to the past. In the D-Mail SERN asks for a fiber line between future lab and SERN. This is the only reason I could think off why there would be a fiber line between. But why would they ever go back in time and change stuff like that if the result would be the same anyway? Do they want to speed up the project for some reason?

Maybe the first time the fiber line wasn't there yet and the Phonewave was not completely finished yet. Then to have the future lab actually finish it they constructed a fiber line. Though that raises another question in me. If the fact that SERN would rule and Kurisu would make time travel for them was set in stone anyway, why would you ever temper with time?

I'm just putting random thoughts on paper right now, hehe. I hope you kinda get what I'm trying to say.

Purely speculation, but
maybe the line is not there for the future gadget laboratory's sake, but for Mr. Braun? He is at least a step above Shining Fingers in the hierarchy and maybe SERN wants super fast connections to their more important angents?
