Stranger Things S5 trailer leak

Imagine being a random small town journalist and a few years later you kill humans without batting an eye and emotional fallout. Thats great and consistent storytelling!
I thought about that too. Did Nancy just kill several human beings? I dont think anyone other than Hopper killed anything Earthly. That seems like a major escalation for any character.

I'm convinced Netflix just has to be rage baiting us at this point considering this is somehow a plot point in what feels like 70% of their shit.
And worse because wills "coming out" is just a rehash of the girl doing the same thing with Steve.

Rather than a personal moment between two friends, or will and his brother, or will and his mom, its a huge "look at me!" to the audience.

And you gotta smoking some Crack to pick up a rusty ass knife on a stick when there is a m14 on the wall.

This shit makes the last season of Game of Thrones look good.

And I liked Season 4 of this show. I could probably stomach a lot of this shit if we weren't waiting a MINIMUM of 3 years between seasons now. Just pure incompetence.

Did Nancy just kill several human beings?

The show has been pretty casual with murder from the beginning. Eleven, Hopper and Kali killed a bunch of secret service/army dudes. And now Nancy has joined the club. The show has some very inconsistent moral goalposts and likes to shift them frequently for its own convenience with little regard for the audience's attention span.

Hopper is a Vietnam vet and the numbers were being trained to be living weapons so I'll give them more latitude. Nancy's been on a last girl/woman of action arc since the start. They might have let her hesitate momentarily before shooting them to give some weight to this act. But once again im putting more thought into a show than the writers were so whatever.

Im still praying at the end the clouds part and its revealed Barb is God of the singularity.

At this point I just want Derek walk up and slap Will so I can laugh. Such a train wreck of a second half of season 5, just , not as bad as season 2 but hell they have one more episode to fuck it up.

I only found the 7th episode a bit rushing but other than that, it's been rad, though I guess the last episode will be a bit rushed too to tie everything up as there's a lot to cover. No issues with all the killing of mooks for me, it's good ol 80s style the bad guys aren't really humans to care for camp 🤷‍♂️

Season hasn't been anywhere near as bad as some of ya'll are saying here and is miles better than the final season of GoT. It really can't be put into words how bad GoT became at the end.

With that said, some of the performance are poor for sure. I think Sadie & Gaten are great, Joe Keery & Maya Hawke are good, and the kid that plays Holly is surprisingly good for her age. The rest are meh-to-bad.

I get what they were trying to accomplish with the coming out scene but of course it's going to piss off the whole anti-woke crowd. This show has focused on relationships & specifically LGBT relationships for years now so I'm not sure why some of you stuck around if that's a dealbreaker. Can't please everyone.

Kojima reviews in detail when he likes something, says "I watched" when he has nothing positive to say.

This time, just the poster.

only posting the poster then either means it's his highest form of praise, or his lowest. we'll have to see 🤔 it's unprecedented

This season has been dreadful. And this is coming from someone who really enjoyed Season 4.

The amount of exposition is just ridiculous. Every episode has a scene (or 2-3 scenes) where some characters has a plan, and they have to explain it meticulously as if everyone were 5 years old.

Dialogue is just terrible. Eleven is now a side character. Ridiculous scenarios like Holly and Max talking for 15 minutes before escaping. Everything feels artificial and rushed.

The main cast doesnt even interact anymore, it seems. Where's the chemistry? Seems like they've reunited after 5 years without seeing each other and now they are forced to play friends again.

Feels weird, man.

People who have compared it to GoT's final season: at least there was spectacle there. Here everything is just boring.

And I bet no one of the main cast will die, only El's sister that no one cares about

Yeah this show sounds like it should have been an anthology series , where a new set of cast intorduced every season, and somehow tie it back to Eleven who would have been there as a cameo part , and maybe a full role again at Season 5.
I watched the coming out scene just to see how bad it is, and my fucking god none of my gay friends are this emotionally retarded. Is this like the American's way of thinking how gay people are ?

The show wasn't written this way in season 1.

Now that it's a giant tentpole event series they've dumbed it down beyond belief. Across the board the characters yell out their motivations and intentions ad nauseum as if it's for idiots half paying attention while on their phone.

Let me come out as gay and give a speech that takes 10 minutes while every second counts because the world is about to end...

That was so cringy and now that everyone knows hes gay he can finally unleash his true power?

This season is a 1/10 for me for sure.

I read that the guy playing the gay was ready for new and big roles. Good luck with that. Someone replied that his future roles was appearances at comic con🤣

Is this like the American's way of thinking how gay people are ?

A 2020s American view of what it's like to come out during the '80s in a TV show with patronisingly cartoonish writing where everyone suffers a sentimentality attack every five minutes and tearfully bonds over the weather or time of day.

That was so cringy

When Will was reeling off his weepy and unnecessarily exhaustive 'Things gay people like too' list I think I was in phsysical pain. Back in season 4 I genuinely thought we were building up to a great, heartfelt, cathartic coming out scene down the line, but fuck me this ain't it.

After this and pluribus it seems that whole "modern audiences are dead" shift we were meant to be getting was just a phase of hollyweird like for two weeks.

We right back into the terrible writing

I know this pic is definitely edited to make her look worse, but she does look a lot older (like in her 30s) in the new season based on clips I just saw on youtube. I see the actress is 27, and most hollywood actresses are able to pull off the college girl look, but not her unfortunately.

During the "Will coming out" scene, she looked 50. I'm not kidding. I've even mentioned with my gf while watching it.

Dunno if she was meant to look exhausted during that scene or something, but she looks fine in other scenes

I watched that clip and I didn't realize it was her. Maybe I thought "Is that Winona Ryder? She looks different"

Photo on the right looks early to mid 50s.

She looks like she aged about 35 years.

I wish one of the Characters just would have said: "We all know you were gay, and nobody cares. Lets move on"
As long as you give it special attention, people will hate it. Even if it's a sci-fi fantasy show taking place in the 80s.

Making the gaunt anorexic girl who weighs around 70 lbs into Rambo is a cruel joke on both her and the audience.

Even with all the small quirks, the season overall has been fantastic and gave us the best scene in the show, and the worst, but still excited for the 2 hour? finale. It has been a great adventure, and no matter what happens, it will remain as one of my favorite shows of all time.

I think the writing is actually pretty sharp, except for episode 7. It's just that the writers have a few crutches that they often go back to, like explaining things w/ doo-dads lying around and giving significance to D&D characters or whatever. It feels very formulaic in a way. But yeah, overall this is still a high quality product imo.

Edit for a nitpicky thing: I think the way the treat Nancy's dad also bugged me. I think it's kind of sexist tbh. Maybe they are trying to undermine the trope about the meek housewife vs heroic dad or something, but Ted's own kids don't seem to give a fuck about him. The mom gets all this glory and it's like... he was also attacked and he also fought the demogorgon thing. Did anyone visit him in the hospital?

Show has superpowered pyshic humans that can snap the heads of anyone, a villain that can also do that easily without having to go through his evil plan, he could've literally killed all the kids in one go, but we draw the line at Nancy being Rambo? Cmon. All the best shows in the world have protagonists with plot armor.

I'm more bothered that she just starts killing people w/ no remorse. that's pretty hardcore.

I hear this often, but it's still bonkers.
Yes a show can have aliens/magic/space wizards, but if it contradicts the rules itself has set, it's unbelievable.
Lazy writing, plot armor and not organic inside the series own mythology.

Lazy writing, plot armor
it's unbelievable.
These kids have survived worse throughout the seasons. It's pretty believable and within the narrative. Nothing at this point is ridiculous. They're just going all bonkers as you said, after all it's the season finale. I know gaf hates fun things and just wants its shows to be depressive as fuck, but stupid fun can be good as well. Besides, the season is still highly rated so far, minus that scene. Stop riding the social media hate train and just enjoy the stuff yourselves, or dont and move on I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the season. It's not season 1, but I like it.

And the kids survived monsters and stuff, yes. That's believable because it feels earned.
Shooting professional military without any recoil later (just a simple "I killed someone and I hated it") isn't earned.

Did you complain when Nancy shot Vecna without recoil and without any former training perfectly in the s4 finale while Vecna was just looking at them when he could've just killed them in 3 seconds, a season finale which was highly lauded? I'm sure you didnt. I'm sure you can move on from a 15 second scene.

Vecna was a monster, I mean, look at him.
And yes, I complained about the vines choking the kids for minutes and nothing happened. Also convenient and lazy.
And god forbid that we don't have the right anymore to complain about something that lasts 15 seconds. That would be horrible for my wife! 😏

You can complain all you want I'm not against it, but we dont decide what's realistic within the shows scope. The writers do. They can give Mike flying powers, and it would still be cool af. You can dislike it, sure, but ridiculous plot armor has been here since s1, and ya know it. The gay stuff was the catalyst that pushed the negative nancies on social media and here on gaf to start piling up minor shit. "oh no gay stuff, season is 1/10", like cmon. This aint a jab at you specifically, just saying. People focuse on one negative instead of the overall positive. Sad.

I don't like how they 're setting up the ending.

What they are doing with Eleven has made everything silly. Either she kills herself because she feels hopeless, which is dumb, or they kill literally anyone who would ever think of rebooting the program, which is a very… American way to end a story. But what is the alternative? They convert Vecna? Massively underwhelming and he has done too much to just let things slide. Everyone loses their powers? Too retcon and dumb. The rest of the military has no clue what the doc is doing so she dies in the upside down collapse and everyone just moves on? Too cartoon villain and easy. I hope they surprise me with something that isn't lame.

Who trained these soldiers?
And who trained Nancy? Did they ever explain why she's good at shooting? Her family doesn't shoot, her friends don't shoot, her job doesn't need it, she seems to be spending all her free time chasing leads. I feel like I missed something because they're treating it like a personality trait that she just is good at shooting where others aren't. It takes many hours of practice to be good at, it should be a known aspect of her lifestyle, yet they act like you can be good by way of sheer moxie.
