Street Fighter 5 exclusively on one platform would be a megaton ?

While it's possible, and could certainly thrive on PS4, I just don't see it as the kind of game that Sony is interested in at the moment, particularly when SF has fallen back into the sphere of the hardcore-only sect again.

Even if it did happen, it wouldn't even really be a Megaton for this reason, unless it had something very striking about it.

Tekken going one platform only though? That'd rock a few boats.

Pretty sure SF would be a bigger get than Tekken.

Honestly the brand is stronger than the actual games and reception at this point that it would be a terrible idea for any of the three to do it. After SF4 I don't think I would run out to buy an Xbone for SF5. There's plenty of fighting games better than the ones Capcom makes. Plus the way the FGC works I don't think an exclusive would ever really catch on big.

I'm not so sure. It feels to me like Tekken's popularity has overshadowed SF's for a good decade or so now (temporary SFIV revival notwithstanding). Personally I know quite a few people who play Tekken casually and competitively, but I only have one frequent SF partner these days, and we mostly stick to the older titles.

SF definitely has more clout in the tourney scene, so you'd hear a lot of noise from them, but I think the majority of news outlets might make more of a thing about Tekken going exclusive.

Considering SF4 isn't as big of a seller as, say, Tomb Raider and such + it would bring a lot of fighting games fans(guaranteed systems seller). Such deal might be possible. But it would certainly make a lot of people angry.

Yeah, as a F2P title. They could release it like KI with a free demo character though.

Verendus has Street Fighter becoming an exclusive as one of the bets in good avatar-bet-thing. I don't think it'll happen but there's some interesting signs.

Apart from the obvious "there is no chance in fucking hell SF5 doesn't get an arcade release"

Hopeing for even console exclusive DLC for SF is wishful thinking. Has nobody forgotten SF X T? look how well that turned out.

Tekken > SF in popularity
Tekken > SF overall sales
SF > Tekken last gen in term of popularity, sales (thanks SSFIV/AE/ver. 2012/x Tekken/USFIV/bloat of DLC) and prize pot.

I don't see there being any chance of that happening. At all.

Also, wanting SFV to be exclusive to any single platform is some serious console wars shit.

Tekken definitely hasn't been more popular than SF ever since SF IV Vanilla, so that's the last six years at least. :P

It would be funny if Sony annouced a Playstation allstars 2 developed by capcom, with a few Street fighter cameos.

It would be hilarious from the conflicted meltdowns.

Some numbers here are complete magic. The SF4 home console port for the whole series sold less than Street Fighter 2 on Super Famicom you know.

SF4 series compared to other SF games : https://infogr.am/loin-detre-le-sf-le-plus-vendu
SF4 series compared to best sellers fighting games of the last 6 years + best fighting game sales since it exists (error it's tekken 3 not 2) : https://infogr.am/chart-24827303132
All sales are from capcom website and takes digital into account.

SF4 was a huge success for Capcom if you think it was considered a dead franchise. But Vanilla sold less than MK9 and Tekken 6. Arcade Edition and Ultra didn't make a million. Nintendo just announced that Smash Bros. sold 3.22 million on 3DS since its launch, almost the same as vanilla on 3 platforms.

Street Fighter is THE franchise you want to have for the prestige. But it does not sell that much games compared to other game franchises in fighting games and outside fighting games.

First response '' maybe they should release some f*^#@*%( games!!''

Truer words have never been spoken.

SF5 is already confirmed to be multiplat and Sony doesn't really go after existing franchises (especially if they don't own the IP) when it comes to exclusives anymore. Based on all of the currently known information, it's going to be a new IP. I have a feeling it's going to be some sort of crossover.

Street fighter is the premier fighting game franchise in terms of name and pedigree and mindshare, imo.

Even if it barely makes the top 3 behind smash bros and tekken in terms of sales numbers, it still would be a pretty big get as an exclusive.

Do we really need another Street Fighter? I want them to make a new game.

Was a fan since Street fighter 2. Just couldn't get into 4. 3 was awesome however.

Capcom would have to pretty dumb to make a franchise as large as SF platform exclusive and lose all the money would make on XB1/Steam.

This is one of the only franchises they have that still sells in that 2 million+ bracket they like so much. It would be a very poor decision on their part and I doubt Sony would moneyhat SF5 because eventhough the games are still popular, it's not really the type of game that would move a lot of systems at this point.

I'd rather have mortal kombat as an exclusive then street fighter but I'm bias since I love mortal kombat more
Street fighter is not for me

I guess capcom might do it since they like money and if it were to happen the system publisher would need to pay up a huge amount

I don't think it will be, but yes I think a multi-million seller would be a "megaton", people's expectations of "megaton" seem basically impossible like "GTAV single console exclusivity for all eternity" style impossible.

I hope not. The larger the playerbase the better.

I hope for multiplatform and crossplatform MP

Cross platform MP is only possible from PS to PC. MS outright disallows it now. So playerbase doesn't really matter much, it'd be siloed anyway. If anything, a single platform would mean the largest singular playerbase.

I can see a Bayonetta situation happening. But not as deep. But a game like SF..It needs to be multi. Is the fighting game genre mascot.

No way in hell.

No way Sony is paying enough to make up for lost revenues on Arcades, XB1 and PC

"timed console exclusive" - sure, there's a chance, but I frankly think only MS has the wallet to do it

Okay.........

Its firstly not just about throwing money around, PS4 has the bigger install base, Sony has better relationship with japanese developers and before arm chair analyst on what Sony can afford and not, I believe the PS division alone pulls in enough money to pay for big third party exclusives, even bringing the cost down if SFV is co developed with Japan studio

Out of all the consoles the PS4 is the most obvious choice and I don't see why Sony would have a problem with the game coming out in the arcades. Isn't Xrd already exclsuive to Sony platforms?

It doesn't need to be a full moneyhat, a collaboration ala Deep Down or Bloodborne will do.

It's obvious that Ono has problems convincing his bosses to do fighting games, this would be another option.

I HIGHLY doubt Street Fighter V will be a Sony exclusive. Ono stated they wouldn't even think about it's development for at least a few years. Street Fighter has been on MULTIPLE platforms and Capcom isn't the type of company to put all their eggs in one basket.

I can definitely see USF4 coming to the PS4...maybe not an exclusive though.

Also i'd say even if SF doesn't sell that much compared to more modern games, the third one was not super popular in term of design and characters, and the 4th one had that funny face cartoony art direction.

It's not impossible to think a more.. badass/serious direction would bring way more new people.
Hey Capcom, you got a guy in your offices, you know that guy from SNK, Shinkisomething, maybe you could use him FOR CHRIST SAKE!

It's an error, i think to think SFII was like that, humoristic and all.. For a 16bit games, and for the videogame demographic at that time, it was pretty impressive, realistic and violent.

As for the exclusive, the question is, does the SF fan base will follow ? If they will buy the console with the game anyway, that can be good for everyone. A big part of the 360 users have shift already anyway.. It's not crazy to think the whole base could shift.

I did this when SF 4 come out. I bought an Xbox360 just because it was the cheapest compared to PS3.
yes, I regret it very much.

I literally cannot understand why Capcom is so clueless.

They need a serious cleanout from the top as their management are borderline negligent at this stage regarding how the company operates.

If their release schedule is so barren, at least remaster some last generation games for current gen and it would be something.

There is so much potential for sales, regardless of quality of IP - remastered collections of Lost Planet, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, Megaman = easy money spinners.

Greenlight sequels to said IP. Reboot Lost Planet. Release Dragons Dogma 2. Stop exclusivity deals which do not benefit sales. Invest in new IP.

Stop butchering valuable IP by retrofitting them to mobile where they don't belong - create new IP that fits mobile. Release sequels to treasured IP such as Breath of Fire, Power Stone and Darkstalkers in the vein of indie-scale production - small budget and high quality.

What is going on at Capcom - why can't they just get their act together?

TIL people still care about Street Fighter....I really had no idea. The Capcom of today probably can't even afford to have a game like that exclusive.

I would think Sony would be fine of having console exclusivity, kinda like with many indies.

PS4, PC, Arcades.

O-H!

Actually, on campus there's a fight night in the basement of the Donatos on High Street. Lots of SF still happening there. Plus, 16-bit just got two SF4 cabinets and the cabinets have been crowded since. Assuming that you live in Columbus and don't just have an OSU avatar :P

Back on topic, I don't really care where it goes, I just want SF5 in my life.

I doubt it will be exclusive, ps4 might get extra costume or exclusive character like sfxt. I still think that ultra is coming to ps4 and Ono will announce it on capcom cup.
