Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

We do not know the full story yet. Given what Ono said about Capcom not willing to foot the bill for SFV and not giving him the funds to port Ultra SF IV to next gen, along with his constant visits to Sony.....it could be a situation where Sony has injected some cash into the project, a bit like what Nintendo did with Bayonetta 2.

If that's the case then I'm glad that we're at least getting a Street Fighter V.

Now they go and throw immense moneyhats at a niche game like Street Fighter just to piss off the market.

"niche" is a game series which sold around 8 million combined across all versions and platforms eh? Guess most franchises are niche then!

Microsoft will undoubtedly follow this announcement up with some real megatons of their own.

Gears remake collection. A true Banjo sequel. Halo 5 beta in the hands of gamers. The next Bayonetta, Dead Space and Crysis as exclusives. Those are the kinds of blockbuster response announcements I expect, and then some. You hit Microsoft with a jab, you best be ready for a flurry of uppercuts coming at you in response.

Look man I think it's messed up too to prevent XBO gamers from getting this title (hopefully it's just timed exclusive or the Ultra versions come soon for XBO), but man this shit is hilarious.

The issue with Tomb raider is that it was announced as multi platform and then later a new trailer was shown as Xbone only. At least street fighter is being announced and revealed as an exclusive. Not announced to get everyones hopes up and then turned into an exclusive.
Link to SE providing platforms? I don't remember them announcing any platforms. It was just assumed it was multiplat.

You do see that you're comparing Sony buying a 3rd party exclusive to MS and Nintendo having a first party title though, right?
I'm not comparing anything, nor did I say I was. It's a fact, as a consumer, I have to purchase said console to play said game. Bitching about it on a message board isn't going to change that. Either purchase it, or not. Why the hell would I start complaining about a situation that has a hugely simple solution?

Well, this is unexpected. The kind of game that traditionally needed to be multiplatform to do well. Bound to increase the amount of discussion the game gets around here anyway.

What a disgrace. All of the FGC playing on the same, more powerful console.

Eh, it does suck for XB1 owners if it's truly exclusive. Let's say an XB1 owner already has an arcade stick since they're a fan of Killer Instinct. It'd suck just a tad bit to have to purchase a PS4 + an arcade stick (or possibly update your PC rig + purchase a PC arcade stick) just to play Street Fighter 5.

But that's how the cookie crumbles. Definitely a smart move for Sony if it's truly exclusive for any period of time.

Why aren't we upset about this? We were upset about Tomb Raider. Is this not the same exact thing?

I'm not upset about either of them. Back in my day, you were lucky to have multiplats. Not only that, but even if you got one, it could have been the inferior version.

They've gone and done it... they've gone and woke the sleeping dragon now.

Sony should have left well enough alone and now they're going to get it. It's not enough that they're bleeding benjamins from practically every crevice of their existence. Now they go and throw immense moneyhats at a niche game like Street Fighter just to piss off the market. Why pay to keep a game out of the hands of as many gamers as possible? Why not put that money into first-party studios and games instead?

I know, I know... this is the way the business goes as they say. Well, they forced Microsoft's hands with their early sales lead and Microsoft only responded with an NPD whooping (source: musings thread) by way of incredible deals and value. Microsoft will undoubtedly follow this announcement up with some real megatons of their own.

is anyone else finding it really weird that the teaser has the playstation trademark at the beginning but its announced as a PS4 and PC game at the end.

Anyway I hope its a "capcom did not put the funding/man power for SFV and Sony game them the funding for it" then delaying the xbone version.

I'm just kind of surprised at the volume of it all.

True but I think too many were stung on the PS3 and the PS4 looks much worse than even that, so it's either play the AAA game or bail for safer revenue sources. I'm more surprised by how quickly they ditched handhelds than Consoles.

Whilst it sucks for X1 owners, but the way I see it is that I guess Sony won't let MS to moneyhat everything. Gotta fight fire with fire after all.

No temporary?
Sorry, but if thats true, then thats a worst act then MS did with TR.

How is it worse when MS moneyhatted TR to prevent a PC version from happening as well?

At least Sony haters can play the game on PC. Same can't be said for TR.

Disappointed. I highly doubt Street Fighter V wasn't going to get made, this seems like moneyhats to me for keeping a game of another system.

Should've spent that money towards getting Capcom to make a Rival Schools game for PS4 rather than keeping a game off another system.

But business I guess... Sony started seeming a little complacent for a while there since PS4 was selling like crazy (they probably have a lot going on in the background but didn't feel the need to reveal anything), this is our first taste of what Sony is actually doing to make sure it doesn't lose the edge, after MS became aggressive.

Sigh...

Whether I get Tomb Raider on Xbone or not is entirely dependent on how much I'll like the first one (still haven't played it). So it's easy for me to say I'll hold off on the purchase out of principle (which may not be true once I play the first one).

But holding off on Street Fighter V... is probably not gonna happen. I buy all of my multiplats on ps4 from the getgo anyways.

Edit: But then there was all that talk that I am now remembering where Ono was like, Capcom's not willing to pay to develop Street Fighter V, or they may want to try a F2P thing, if that was the case and Sony moneyhats actually helped get the game development started, I'm okay with this.

If it is exclusive to the PS4 for consoles, then I think Capcom's management problems are far deeper than any of us envisioned. They seem to have almost no confidence to go in alone on any big release this generation. They would have canned Dead Rising 3 without Microsoft's support, and if they can't even be bothered to take a risk on Street Fighter V of all things without Sony being a partner, then the company really has a dismal future.
Capcom has seen almost every business venture of late either fail or decline, and they don't seem to have much business vision at the top outside of "something is popular, let's try that," so I suspect they've decided to retreat to trying to make money the easiest and safest way possible.

I feel they're a candidate for becoming the next Tecmo Koei as opposed to a local industry leader like they once were.

Well then announcing it and not platforms and people get excited to later find out it is exclusive is dirtier than this.

I could see how these two scenarios compare if capcom said "and here's SFV for next gen" and then months later says "and it's only on Ps4."

This is not the same scenario.
