Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

Not sure how much they can continue the Illuminati storyline without stepping on 3's toes (not super familiar with its story), but I could potentially see a season 2 story focusing on Ryu's training to overcome the Satsui no Hadou while he was absent from this plot. Could fit in well enough with some possible season 2 character candidates like Akuma, Sagat, Sakura or Oro (which, I mean, is total speculation).

This shit was schlock greatness. Everything I wanted from a street fighter story. I was hoping for an Akuma raging demon so bad though. Also, Zangief for best character.

Until he comes back in SF6 with a beard and wacks Gill upside the head.

I do see Fang attempting to bring back bison through some crazy means. He's totally obsessed with him to the point of insanity. Ill also assume he's not dead, since it seems like he's gifted either with the devil's luck or stupidly high resilience to keep coming back after getting his ass kicked multiple times near the end.

Overall I enjoyed the whole thing. There were some really great moments in there. Loved everything with zangief, mika and laura. Zangief using fucking muscle power to stop a sword had me fucking rolling man

I just want to know one thing, so as not to set myself up for disappointment. I'm a huge Chun-Li fan, can I expect to see her kicking some ass in this? Because everybody loves making her look weak. Even Capcom, from what I've seen in the previews.

Bought the game yesterday and enjoyed the story. It's silly and dumb but enjoyable. Rashid was great and I'm so glad I got to use Juri.

Just finished had a lot of fun with it. It's a dumb anime plot and a bit safe but who cares. You can't expect shakespeare with SFV. Rashid really is the main character of this game and that's really cool. I know I wasn't the only one expecting this to just be Ryu fighting the Satsui no Hado the whole time. But wtf was Necalli there for? He literally just shows up in a few scenes then melts. No explanation for anything that he does. Charlie's sacrifice was a little weird and didn't really seem to do much to Bison. Gill though holy shit. Liam O'Brien is a great casting for him. Also really liked Urien's voice even though I didn't think I would when I initially heard it. Most of the character interactions were pretty good. Zangief using the power of muscles was hilarious and Mika and Ibuki always fighting is a nice touch. It was nice that Alex was there briefly but didn't meet Ryu or anyone to mess with the SF3 storyline. Anyway overall a fun experience, it exceeded my expectations.

Just watched the whole thing on Youtube. I'll force myself to go through the fights just for the FM later.

I liked it. The humor definitely was suitable for SF (I have even more of an appreciation for Rashid, Mika, Ibuki & Laura now).

Ryu's my boy, but they could've made him more invovled. Throughout most of the story, he's detached from everyone like always, then drops by at the last minute to literally be ushered in to save the day. Really weird.

Also, I'm pretty damn salty that Marz was seemingly the only doll to die, simply because she represents my birth month >:( It's made even worse when neither Cammy nor any of the other dolls even acknowledge her absence in the end.

EDIT: Removed spoiler tags because I forgot this was a thread for just that :p

Is the sound mix kind of bad or is that just me? The voice volume seems really low. I don't think it adheres to the general sound settings either.

I was thinking the same thing tbh so I lowered the BGM volume

Chun Li doesn't do much at all. She might have had 2 or 3 fights at the most and they aren't all that pivotal really. It's pretty much the Rashid/F.A.N.G. show for the most part. Everyone else is either a small subplot, comic relief, or glorified cameo.

Surprisingly, Juri scenes were the highlight in this. I liked her personality in passing in SFIV, but she really stood out in SFV.

Overall, though, this was poorly directed. So many ways scenes could have logically and nicely transitioned into each other, without looking like they were detached vignettes all scrambled together.

That scene at the start with the wrestling, for example. Firstly, what the hell was that even for? But, secondly, they could have made it that the camera would pan out from the wrestling ring and out of the television in the Kanzuki estate to truly connect both scenes. Instead, they look incongruous, with no connecting tissue. There's a lot of that throughout the story.

Necalli did jack shit, hilariously. He got beat by pretty much everyone he faced, and had ABSOLUTELY ZERO place in the story at all. Erase Necalli entirely and literally nothing changes. That's just funny.

Nash's heroic sacrifice resulting in nothing was pretty funny, too. And no one even seemed to care after they saw it didn't work.

As pointed out, the voice mixing during fights was low, making it difficult to hear anything. I like that ASW-like touch, though.

Overall, it was alright, but definitely not great.

You don't even get to play as Chun-Li until the very end and it's not even that important a fight. She tags along throughout, but she doesn't really do all that much. I think you fight against her twice.

They nerfed her, but to be fair, some of the fights she loses to are due to her punching above her weight or being hurt prior to the fight.

She does have a fight at the end that establishes her back up to greatness though.

Edit: to the above, while the fight isn't the most important thing, it still proves she's fairly strong.

I just finished the story mode and I'm happy with it. It's dumb, but in a very entertaining way.

I just wished some characters had more influence on the story. My Chun was completely left out until the end >.>

I also think they should have used Necalli setup better. He's an century old warrior that was supposed to devour bison, ryu and dhalsim. They should make him far more dangerous than that.

I also liked how Dhalsim acted. Him pushing Birdie and Ibuki to jump off the helicopter was hilarious, especially considering he can teleport and fluctuate. Also, why Ibuki was scared of the jump, she should be a ninja.

Also, Bison. Seems to me he just wanted the ultimate power fight. I kinda want to see him back with full powered up psycho power vs Ultimate Necalli vs Nothingness Ryu

Testing Juri gameplay was also great, but I wished to see her motivations and skills more. She is the only one that can pick up a ride in Brazil and end up in London while escaping the police. She probably learned how to drive here in my city (some weird shit happen in traffic here).

I really hope they end up making another cinematic story mode. I would pay for that even.

Felt like it was a bad straight to DVD action movie which is what I expected. Enjoyed playing through it and liked the cameos. The most obscure one is probably the guy Alex fought in the wrestling ring. It's the black fighter from the original SF2 intro. I remember seeing made an updated character design for him somewhere.

Yeah, these are some good points. I remember people speculating (with some merit) that Necalli was gonna be the next big badass. As soon as I saw how his confrontation with Bison ended (aka fuck all happened), I knew he was going to be inconsequential throughout.

Maybe Guile had no more tears to shed for Charlie after the first time, lol.

He's also in the Las Vegas stage on the left side.

Necallo seems like a setup for future story.

I disagree. Right at the moment Necalli is defeated by Ryu at the end in the way he is, his entire existence as a character is rendered pointless and any recurring appearance by him from that point on would be redundant.

didnt balrog lose all his fights too? i feel like his only win was against the random shadaloo guard

necalli is basically the new dan after that story mode though

Why is the story mode not showing up for me? General Story cant be selected and the game did the patch last night. >.> (Steam Version)

Truth. They never bothered to explain WHY Necalli needs to go around eating strong warrior souls, they only explained that's what he's here to do. He's just a bugaboo that shows up every now and then that completely fails to even execute his function of his sole stated purpose. They didn't explain what changed about Ryu that made it impossible for him to eat him. They could in a future story flesh those things out.

Is Oro shown?

no... there's no 3D model for Oro- also no C. Viper, Sakura, Eliza, or Gouken... so even though they're voiced in the character stories maybe they didn't have the resources to make all those detailed character models.

Most of the characters are just Bison Dolls, shadaloo grunts, and cops
Clearly Necalli's remains were scavenged by the illuminati to make Twelve.
So you're saying he's worse than Dan, then :p

I like Twelve. His normals would probably do good in 5, so long as they also give him some decent, practical combos.

Twelve was my main in 3s. He'd be fine if you couldn't super his moves on hit and he didn't have to hit the opponent 3 times as often as every other character to win.

As a huge Dolls fan, I was in awe the entire last half of the story. OMG. So many neat touches. First of all Santamu is Vietnamese, not African. Also, I loved how they all had unique attacks based on A SINGLE FREAKING 18 YEARS OLD ARTWORK. Enero had the megaphone (okay, it was a mic originally), Fevrier had a gun, etc. I'd pay money to be able to play as them all, even if they're just Cammy clones with one more move (that's what Juli was originally, after all). Or make Decapre a value-added character where she comes with all the others as alts.

Necalli did have a purpose. He was there to provoke Ryu into finding a way to the True Hadou. If Akuma had been there instead, it would have been A2 all over again. Besides, I don't see people complaining that Q just pops up for no good reason.

Rashid is my main, so I loved to see him. I hope Azam makes it. Could he possibly be a Darun reskin? I would love that even more.

All the ties into SF3... great stuff. The Alex stuff was basically Wolverine in First Class. They set up Sean wanting to practice with Ken, they set up Chun-Li's adopted daughter, they spent tons of time with KOLIN of all people (I totally called that being her), they planted seeds for Urien possibly taking over Balrog and/or Vega to his team eventually. And they had Gill voiced by Liam Grimoire Weiss O'Brien.

There's no real reason to remake SF3. They could deal with it mostly as a prologue to SF6 and build from there. Take care of the important story beats in flashback or in another character story mode.

Also, I totally want more of those stages. The one with Chun-Li's daughter was epic with the lighting, and I also want the extended New York stage AND the burning car stage. Shut up and take my money, Capcom.

Sure, there's some technical issues and the loading hurts the flow, but this is packed with fan service and a much better effort than I had dared hope for.

WTF was Balrog doing during the entire ending? Had that scene with Mika and Ibuki and then did nothing.

Also Alex came off as a bit racist, "Oh shit is a guy with dark skin, must be trying to mug me".

Hey that Darun comment in the last post reminded me of something- anyone else notice the Shadaloo grunt has Skull-o-mania's diving headbutt? I wonder if there's any other moves like that we're missing since the matches are so short...

So why was Necalli there again? I honestly thought he was going to be a major character but instead the most memorable thing he does is disguise himself as a sheep and tell Nash to devour.
