Street Fighter V |OT| No Options to Select

Before the servers went down, I did another sweep through all the character stories by just skipping cutscenes and doing the fights. The game still didn't give me the 5,000 or so FM it still owed me since I never was able to get to 160,000 on that mode alone. Pretty upset about it, but I know that I'm probably going to be forking over cash anyways once I get to character #3 or 4.

Take it from me, if you don't want to risk not getting the exact amount of fight money from single player then it might be best to avoid story mode until the damn servers are resolved.

Was on level 33 on survival when I got disconnected. I don't have the energy for this. And to think I actually have to this with all the characters if I want those colors.

Game is uplayable with a DS4 controller when you've already played with a stick in the past :(

I sold my MvC2 stick last year because I thought I was done with fighters but then here comes SF5 so I'm back in. The TE2+ is on backorder so to hold me over I just ordered the POS hori mini...

I thought i'd get by with the DS4 but I can't wrap my brain around using triggers as attack buttons.

I bought the mini for now, too. Hopefully it's passable and can tide us over until something better is back on stock.

No, SF4's is because my settings are saved when I exit the game.

I would gladly take a few extra button presses in 5 over losing functionality that was completely impossible in 4.

Multiple recording slots. Longer recording slots. Controlling the dummy with the analog stick. The touch pad shortcuts. On block record. On wakeup record. Fast restart. The ability to fight rounds against the cpu. TRAINING OUTSIDE OF TRAINING STAGE.

The time you spend resetting your defaults each time is easily made up by the fast restart alone.

Yea all I need is passable and most reviews on Youtube say its decent for the price. Looking at the sticks on amazon, they are all selling very quick and most will be sold out by weeks end.

Sorry maybe I'm dumb but I don't see anything regarding combos or whatever blockstrings are? It's just me and a dummy AI and the menu has a list of basic commands

Yeah, training more is more like practice mode. It's not going to teach you the game. The idea is you mess around and find attack sequences that either combo or put the opponent in unique situations. Personally, I've never been one to look at/ape other peoples combos; part of the mystique of SF--especially new entries--was always finding stuff out on my own and then having my mind blown. Then by playing other people I'd see some different stuff, then head to Training Mode and figure out how they did it and incorporate it if I want to.

If you're a total beginner, the best advice I can give is don't worry about combos beyond 2 and 3 step combinations (ie jump kick > sweep, or crouching medium attack > special move, or jump kick > medium attack > special move). Learn the spacing of all of your character's attacks, meaning how far away they can land, learn the spacing of throws, learn how long your v-trigger lasts, etc.

There's no need to be a dick about it man, I'm trying to read up on this game and there's a lot of terms I've never heard before.

Anyways I read a few explanations on blockstrings and they're still way over my head but I'll keep poking around on the internet

Edit: Alright so it's basically just keeping them on the defensive? Is there certain combos that are better for this? I only see a few in the command list (one of the basic ones is light/medium/heavy punch)

Keep at it! Don't be too put off by people being rude. I think we're all a little irritated with the servers.

Someone, anyone, please. Just tell me the point of Rassenha. I don't see any reason to use this move. Shit is garbage. Same with her V-trigger follow ups. Everything just loses to jab. Thought the same thing in the betas and the same thing now.

EDIT: I should have made it clear. I know about the follow ups. They both lose to jabs or throws and its unsafe on block.

The follow ups actually don't make any sense.
She has the flip grab which you avoid by crouching and the slide which you block by crouch blocking. She has no mixup that would require you to stand up after blocking the first move. I just don't see the point. Seems extremely predictable and unsafe.

Loving ryus mp and mk, mp can link to so much and mk is no evil ryus but it can reach a bit and s has some range.

Also is that strider in the background of bisons stage?

Thanks. That's what I figured, just trying to get a feel for the movement and range and stuff like that.

Some of the resources linked in the noob thread talk about frames which seems confusing, should I be thinking about that now or is that more advanced?

Why can't I choose anything in my menus? After installing on. Ps4 the game thinks there is more to install.

Something I've always wondered: Ever since the SNES days with the 4 face button/2 shoulder button layout I've always put my medium and heavy attacks on the face buttons and weak attacks on each shoulder button, and SF games have always defaulted to having the heavy attacks on the shoulders (usually with both attacks on the right side on Playstation). Is this generally the preferred way to play on a pad? I always figured that i'm faster on the pad buttons than shoulder buttons so it made sense to put the weaker attacks there but I never really gave much thought to why the default is the way it is.

I have had medium buttons on the shoulders since snes days and cannot play any other way, jabs and fierces on buttons. My best friend of forever uses fierces on the shoulders. I think it's really just preference or how you learned.

Just work on what seems understandable. You don't want to jump into a lot of things at once. Practice a bit at a time. That's how I used to do it.

Hopefully when the servers come up, everything works because you do want to practice against other players as well. Win or lose, it gives you a good indication on what to focus your training on.

I think everyone has their own preference, I like having light and heavies on the face buttons. You probably don't want to put anything besides 3x punch or 3x kick on the triggers though, just takes too long.

There are some moves that are cancellable to it iirc

Also try doing it from a distance and doing one of the follow ups

Yuuuup. Ended up with the mini because it was all I could Prime, haha.

Remember all those people during Beta 1 who were basically saying "This is a good thing this is happening now so that it won't happen at launch."

Yeah.

The only thing you should worry about frames right now is knowing and being cognizant of the fact that moves have a start up, active, and recovery. Throw a punch right now, very slowly. At first your punch is winding up, right? That's start up. During that you're vulnerable if your move is slow enough. Then we have active, that's the actual punch with your arm extended. Next, we have recovery. As you put your arm to your side, you're vulnerable, no? Some moves have fast recovery. Some moves have slow start up and slow recovery. Consider this when using moves.

Those are the basics of frames and as a newbie, all you should concentrate on for now.

Can't choose story, or any online stuff or challenges.

These things say please wait for installation to finish. There is nothing else to install.
Challenges don't come out until March. Did you download the update? You might not be able to right now since the servers are down for 3nhours.

Same happened to me. I had to wait a bit, as elements gradually filled in such as characters. backgrounds, modes and such. I dunno if things will be different now with the maintenance, but there should be something going on in the background that you'll have to wait in Training mode or something else for.

I had a bunch of characters missing and only one stage available to choose. Only selectable mode for me was Training mode. Had to wait, like, 20 minutes for it to all fill in. Mine's a digital copy.

It exists only for EX version it seems lol.

Otherwise its getting punished every time.

Betas aren't designed to get the game working launch day. Launch day for any online centric game is going to be shit because you're never going to have so many people connecting at once outside of it.
I've played many online games day one that ran flawlessly. There's no excuse for selling a $60 dollar online game in which people can't play it.
