Thanks for that.

I always see the xx, and I read that means cancel, but what do you actually do to make that happen? I find that confusing.
It means you do the special move while the attack is still in it's hit state, cancelling the recovery and doing the next move instantly. Basically you press the button and immediatly do the special motion.

Just means you can press the next button (or command) right afterward, which is cancelling from one attach into another. This is as opposed to "linking," which requires you to precisely time the beginning of one move to coincide with the end of another for it to come out.

Thanks for the clarification, much appreciated!

Edit > Thanks Stone Ocean as well!

Infiltration is currently with a 55 win streak. His Nash is destroying people's spirits!

Infiltration is crushing my spirit too and im not even playing ;_;

Pick an easier character, TBH. Laura is difficult to use well.

Maybe someone like Birdie with really strong normals and no crazy combos to learn.
Damn wasn't hoping to hear that. I can't stand birdie but I love the way Laura looks and plays. I wanna try Karin too but she looks to complex as well. I don't know what to do lol.

I would love to read who people end up maining once the dust settles. Especially compared to who they played in other SF games or FGs in general.
Late reply but: I'm currently maining Laura, because she's the closest character from Makoto I'll get for at least a year. :)

Play Ryu

He's the proto character and the best starting character to learn with. Learn how to use normals, WHEN to use specials, anti air normals, spacing. Then move onto other characters :)

Infiltration's offense is so scary than even when he whiffs nobody punishes, they just jump back because they want to GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE

and then he just chases them down. I cant tell if its scary or hilarious

Yeah I'm straight garbage at this game. Just played someone using Ken and I hit I'm twice total.

I know that feel. Flowchart players and every rushdown scrub is kicking my ass, I just can't do anything on reaction, and somehow manage to lose every exchange on wakeup. When I try to play even moderately smart or defensive I get my ass handed to me every time. It's a rough scene out there for a scrub.

Oh trust me I have been lol. I'm up to 10 straight as I'm typing this. I refuse to lose my Laura hope though hopefully I can reach some type of breakthrough with her.

She's pretty legit, so mad props to you if you figure it out!

I'm not even winning in casual matches lol

No way I'm going to ranked mode in this pitiful state.

I any other street fighter game it would be considered a 2 frame link, however this one has a 3 frame input buffer (That means the game repeats your input for 3 consecutive frames). This would make it a 5 frame punish assuming you're putting the input in up to 3 frames early. So just mash it, lol.

Doesn't the input buffer only come into play if you hold the button through the respective frame(s)?

Laura is really good. Very simple tools but requires great mobility and mind games from the player. I put her in the same category as Nash, somewhat simple commands but to be effective requires a bit higher skill level. I've been absolutely wrecked by good Laura's and Nash but consistently own the mid range lower ones.

Even beyond the point where Battle Lounges get to the point of consistently allowing people to join / create Capcom really needs to flesh out the amount of information it gives you on your opponent in the lobby screen.

When searching in the lobby the thing more often than not doesn't display connection speed and doesn't display the country of origin so in the once in the once in a blue moon event where I actually get into a random's lobby I find that he's from australia and we have a 1 bar connection. I feel like the functionality is there, RARELY you get to see what the opponent's ping / country is before you attempt to join, but just isn't working at the moment.

Yup you nailed it. Also doesn't help it's the first Street Fighter I've ever played for more than an hour.

I'm still pretty scrub-tier at this game but I'm liking Ryu so far. Dude feels like he can be aggressive AF and that parry is going to be super useful

Any bnbs for ryu?

crossup jumping mk + standing mp + standing hp + standing hk is a pretty reliable one for me against standing opponents that aren't good at blocking cross ups.

I might actually do this because I'm getting wrecked with Laura right now. I already know all of Ryus inputs as well so I wouldn't have to learn those so much.

Just went to casual matches can't stand ranked at the moment lol.

Yeah, I usually tend to gravitate towards characters requiring mind games, conditioning and reads. Even if they are harder to play once you get to a certain level, they are, to me, way more fun to play as than other archetypes, so I can take those match-up losses if my wins can bring me the joy of having outplayed my opponent on a mental level. :D

I just want a working 1v1 battle lounge so I can play with my friend on the other coast.
That's all I'm waiting for to be fixed before I jump back in at this point.

I have hundreds and hundreds of hours in SFIV but even I'm just gonna stick with Ryu for now.

His execution is really simple. And I've only played 4 matches online so far because of work, but I've wkn every one easily with simple anti airs and normal attacks. Ryu isn't fancy, but he can absolutely get the job done.
