Yuuuuuup. I suck against Balrog as Mika so that MU knowledge was pretty useful. Most of the third match was basically just testing out what I could and couldn't get away with after certain things.

I'm so free against the drop kick. I know it's slow as fuck and I can do anything to stop it but I'm just slower lol. that's basically my downfall in the matchup. i even played a FT10 against a mika recently and still haven't learned.

I don't think they can do current trends in stylish way, the people can be there. But know if they are , for lack of word cool enough in this regard to produce a modern style that would work for a lot of people.

I think if they did it, they to go with an entirely different character designer.
The character designs and aesthetic of Rival Schools is a key component of the entire series. I don't think they'd just throw that all away.

Because I've played that matchup maybe four times ever? Doesn't matter how lopsided the matchup is, without experience and knowledge of what to punish on reaction you're not gonna get too far.

That's fair. It's probably one of the match-ups where I can go on autopilot the most, though. Hell, it's the only one where Mika's V-Skill is semi-viable.

I've got Alex vs. Balrog pretty much on lock at this point but I'm trying to figure out proper meaty timing vs. him, plus how to punish Dashing Straights with Mika's stubby normals.

Wish there was someone who mained Rog at my locals. Every week it's just a tsunami of Karins, Cammys and Kens.

once you get those meaty timings figured out Rog is done basically. He can't do shit against the mika vortex :(

The character designs and aesthetic of Rival Schools is a key component of the entire series. I don't think they'd just throw that all away.

And that was kind of my point before I shorted it. I feel to make a modern successful game about students fighting... takes away alot of what some people enjoy about rival schools. Its un rival schools. Someone might argue that's fine, this isn't DMC RIval schools, wasn't that successful ever, most people don't know these characters nowadays outside of crossover, so there would be virtually no backlash to a rebooting. I don't know. But I know Modern school anime aesthetic in has evolved... greatly. Rival schools kind of seemed outdated in terms of aesthetic when it released. So now it seems even more so, from anatomy to just character design.

Shits changed, shits changed alot, and I feel like if they do rival schools, they have to change. They need fresh design eyes, and there are plenty of young artists, and mangaka who can give their perspectives on this thing. Change the artist, I don't rival schools is revered enough for people to care. And given that the name was changed before, they can just call the game something else. And just have rival school character, show up, like Akira is grown woman or something.

Earned enough FM to buy all the special stages tonight.

Skies of Honor is kind of boring, Casino stage and Guiles stage is much more interesting. Spooky stage is fun, but I wish the CPT stage was purchasable with FM as well.

All of that sounds awful, honestly. What would even be the point then? Might as well make something totally unrelated.

The whole appeal of bringing Rival Schools back is to provide a different take on the school setting compared to what's currently available. It plays off the trend, while simultaneously standing apart from the rest. Rival Schools is stylish and vibrant, full of energy, and the character designs are excellent. Among the best Capcom has to offer. There's still enough moe and cutesy stuff included to try and attract that set of gamers, but it also has enough inherent appeal to go beyond just otaku gamers. That's why it would be a perfect IP to revive. Load it up with school sim stuff so people who are interested in those aspects will check it out, but keep the crazy, over the top action the series is also known for. It's a type of product the genre could really use right now, particularly if Capcom wants to ever hope to attract players that normally don't go in for fighting games.

IMO, it's the perfect combination of concept and content to appeal to a wider base of gamers, particularly in Japan, and would do wonders to help Capcom branch out their fighting gamer offerings beyond just the core crowd.

I played him and he rage quit on me. Super to ultra silver Cammy. Quit after the first round so maybe he had something to do?

Lionel Mandrake is the name of a character in one of the most famous films of all time so I actually highly doubt it was the same dude who posts on GAF.

Hours left, I respect and think you are cool dude.

But I'm going to say this out of respect, I think you are too enamored with that aesthetic , I don't think that aesthetic has any real value nowadays. You can talk about adding sim elements all you want, but despite what many would like to admit, fighting games are sold on their aesthetic and character design as well as their mechanics. And if you wanna get into the young mans school style game, you gotta get some young man school style people . You say they are the best capcom has to offer... but a lot aren't memorable, and no one gave a shit when they came out.

I don't think its fair, you suggest that like ruins the concept. When Capcom made sf2. Sf2 is the exact thing i'm suggesting. And then did it again multiple times with resident evil, and during that time it caused the birth of entire genre of video game called character action.

I think taking a series back to the drawing board is capcoms specialty for better and for worse. I don't feel like its automatically if they do it for rival schools it would be bad. I don't think rival schools was successful when it came out... to not do that. You think rival school characters are like SF characters, they aren't. For street fighter to get to that level, capcom had to re think street fighter from the down up. I think rival schools also needs a re think.

Seems like an inopportune time to have maintenance with CC happening this weekend.

Unless we are going to get a surprise announcement/release ready to go live this weekend....... Please be this.
They're probably updating Ring of Destiny to have Capcom Cup logos in the background. That plus they need to remove the CPT & Halloween DLC.

I think are sheer hate for Jab AA has made us overlook how bad jump ins are as a whole. Ignore Ryu's J.LK or Laura's and see how bad moves like Nash's J.HP which just a giant hurtbox. Even Ken/Ryu's Cr.MP can stop jump ins.

Also nobody should have Jab AA.
I have been saying this for months! A lot of the jump in attacks are just horrible. I understand they wanted to make jumps a little less good but they may have gone too far when you can barely ever get a trade at the very least and EVERYTHING stuffed on average.

I thought of that too. He never struck me as a fighting game player, so I was more surprised when the RQ came I guess!

I'd say if you think the series' aesthetic doesn't have value, then we view games very differently.

I'm not saying it has to be an exact replica of the previous games, obviously it has to evolve and refine some aspects, but if you're okay with tossing out that much of what made the IP what it is, then it doesn't seem like you have any interest in seeing the series be revitalized, and would rather just take it apart for scraps. And if that's your view, that's fine, but I don't think it's in the best interest of the series, or those that created it.

Rival Schools doesn't need a "SF2", it needs a Rival Schools 3. The core concept and style of the series is sound, and Capcom could benefit a lot from exploring what the IP has to offer in today's market, which as I said before, I think RS is perfectly suited to, perhaps now more than ever.

I still have no goddamn clue how to fight Ryu as any of my mains. Seems like every single one I get matched up with online have immaculate fireball games and as soon as I get within spitting range they do a seemingly-random DP that knocks me on my butt and resets things back to neutral.

It's so infuriating, but it seems like no matter what I do I get stuffed. Even when I predict a fireball and jump with perfect timing they're somehow able to pull out an AA jab or DP before my air normal can hit them.

God, I'm so salty rn :|

I've just accepted that that's how games will play out against Ryu's and Chuns. It's easier that way. -_-

Yeah that MU is horrible for Gief but I still laughed hard when Mike basically killed himself by going in when he was winning. It is not like Birdie can just sit back against Gief while Gief has the life lead.

Wanna know how to beat Gief as Birdie? Banana. Seriously. That's it.

He can't bulldog his way forward, He can jump forward which you'll cr.mp/cr.hp

He can V-skill forward in which case you throw another banana.

He can V-Trigger but oh wait, he sucks in the banana as well and gets hit by it.

Oh god I forgot about this stupidity. Is this matchup 10-0 or something? lol

Skies of honor is great. I was worried at first, because it gave me a headache when I watched it on youtube, but I havent had any problems with it in game. I also like seeing different angles of the plane and buildings during some characters super animations (like Cammys).
The Halloween stage is probably the only one I wont buy. Well, I wouldnt buy the CPT stage either. Casino stage is pretty good. Beach is probably my favorite stage. Its nice and relaxing.

I really do not get these whole MvC4 rumours, would Capcom really torpedo what should be a huge weekend for SFV by announcing a different fighting game? I mean yeah it is Capcom, so anything is possible, but come on they cannot be that stupid when they really should be pushing the SFV hype button.

Personally I am really looking forward to the Capcom Cup and hopefully a ton of SFV announcements to get everyone excited for the next year of SFV.

Not against a MvC4 just seems a really odd time to announce it

They'll have the eyes of casuals because of PSX and hardcore because of Capcup. It's the perfect time.

Marvel and SF appeal to different crowds. It's not going to take away anything from SF5.

I don't think MvC4 is gonna eat any of the hype for SF5 if it really is coming out in 2018 ( assuming it even exists lol).

That's at least a 1.25 period where the only current Capcom fighting game is SF5 and you can be sure that they're gonna announce some good stuff at PSX/Capcom Cup for it and keep the support going.

The idea would be that MvC4 would be a big boon to Capcom Cup in general. Before SFV's launch Capcom emphasized that they wanted Capcom Cup and CFN to grow and implied that another fighter was in the works to accompany SFV.

I'm getting the impression that eSports is a big deal to a lot of companies and they see money making potential in there even if myself and GAF at large don't (I'm happy it exists and everything but I'm not sure how they make money). So I can see MvC4 being to Marvel as an opportunity to get into the eSports arena like Sony saw SFV as that same opportunity. That's the most logical reason as to why MvC4 exists and they announce it at CapCup, personally.

I'm not sold on this actually happening, though, but I'm hopeful.

Watching Cross-Counter is getting painful now. The last one, Mike kept complaining how ass Zangief was as he lost to a Birdie who had a very one-dimensional strategy. They kept saying "Zangief is garbage!". Meanwhile, Mike can't combo with him, doesn't know how to punish with him, didn't know how to combo into his v-trigger, never used EX SPD which is one of his most important tools since you get continued pressure off a dash. Stop bitching and learn the character, geez.

Nevermind that whenever the Birdie got cornered, he'd always, ALWAYS EX bullhead to get out of it and Mike fell for it every time. "This guy is just pressing buttons!", no shit Mike, how bout YOU stop pressing buttons and let him hang himself. And then use something better than standing medium punch to punish.

Every time Mike punished Birdie's unsafe shit on block with a crouching jab and he had full super meter I died a little.

Mike always had a great feel for games, that's why he could use so many characters in 4 and go nuts with them. But I think he doesn't for this one. It's like he's playing meta level 3 when he's still missing the standard pressure.
Gootecks does, though. You can see he played the game a lot.

And he always had super ready because he never fucking used his meter. The only time I saw him do an EX was to do EX running bear grab on a read that didn't work out. EX SPD Mike, it's really fucking important!

At least we got that Stupendous replay at the end. That was a palate cleanser to Mike's shitty Gief.

Mike should just go back to Nec or just deal with it as Birdie. This Gief shit and middle shelf tupperware Laura ain't cutting it.

On the flipside, it's hilarious to see Gootecks NOT complain. He's playing a lot better with Urien.

SFV is weird, because people are approaching it the wrong way. You gotta break bad habits faster, I feel like. Same thing with Tekken 7, Gundam, and VF games.

Whaddya guys think about LowTierGod?

He's genuinely fucked up. Dude had piss jugs he showed on stream. Probably not real, but I won't be surprised when he pulls a DSP and jacks off on stream to keep his meager fan base around.

I cannot play Casual at this time of the day because I constantly get matched up with this Ossiel asshole who leaves the game mashing st.LK.

It's pure incompetence that people who are actively shitting up the online environment in this game aren't swiftly and easily taken care of.

They should just combine Casual and Battle Lounges anyway. Pairing people up by their LP seems weird and you'd probably be able to find matches quicker is those two were pooled together. Casual Fight Request could just search for the first open seat in a Battle Lounge (it could be adjusted to join any open lounge or any lounge where you'd get to immediately play).

First they would need to actually have proper Battle Lounge filtering options.

Have you tried to block him? I think that might stop you from getting matched-up.

What happened with Low Tier God?

I thought he was known to be a joke/jerk after getting blown up real hard by Viscant I think?
Basically the one where he was making fun of the dude for being a nerd and then lost a long set.

I just googled it, and it looks like he might be banned? What did I miss? lol

That guy uses racial slurs all the time, which gets you banned. Simple as that.

Im pretty sure I've encountered actual bots in casual matches

One was a Juri who opened with the same move and then mashed st.MK over and over in the corner forever. Still hit replay match and did the same thing. Another was a ken that mashed Cr.LP from full screen over and over again.

Both cases I ended the match with one fully charged Mika throw.
