Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Lack of vs. CPU is pretty lame but, what's that saying...oh yeah, "stop preordering games." Don't buy things you don't have complete information about and don't give people money if you aren't getting the product immediately in return.

It's okay. I'm fine now. Still kinda upset... but I'm back on the hype train. Hearing that we can actually change stages during training mode really softened the blow of no VS CPU. It's still messed up but I'm getting over it.

And Best Buy has crazy timing. I just got a email saying my Collector's Edition has been shipped... instead of feeling angry, I actually smiled. So I'm still happy I'm buying this. :)

I couldn't get less of a shit about reviews.

shame that cant be said of casuals, first impressions count and if casuals gets the first impression this game has no content, they wont spend their money on it and that could effect potential sales, that's why you should care about the state the game launches in.

Practice vs cheap AI that either will block everything, block nothing or read your inputs and punish everything?

That's not practice, more like a warm up / time killer lol

You can set it to "CPU" and set the level of difficulty. Then it just fights you like it would in a vs. match at that difficulty. Just without the intros, round endings etc. Basically like an endless vs. match. Though you can set it to have normal damage, KOs etc. and it will just reset them to full health once they're down.

Still odd to not have Vs. CPU though.

I can see SFV maybe getting just under (possibly a little bit over) 8 on metacritic. I think most reviews will be a bit harsh but mostly positive. On average I can see this game getting mostly 7s and 8s.

Doesn't matter what score this game gets review wise, shits gonna be cray in the MP/Trny and pro scene regardless.
The tourney doesn't pay for season 2

3rd strike had hella tourneys and was on evo until SFIVs second year, it still sold like 20 copies

Maybe not the best example since the port took a while iirc but still for this game to succeed, the casual market has to buy into it, there will be tourneys either way

Tournies sell copies nowadays, but not when 3rd strike was a thing. Capcom doesn't need a huge success at release, and I'd be surprised if they're counting on one. They're going for a slow burn, using the e-sports scene to popularize the game.

You should though. Ono cares. Sony cares. Capcom cares. Why? Good reviews = budget. Budget = more content for us (paid and free), and it means more investments in future fighters in general.

If a game tanks in scores it tends to tank in sales.

So if you want Street Fighter 6 to not come out until 2030 and for it not to be a FPS, then yeah we all should care lol.

At the same time, if I placed too much importance on reviews, the games I have wouldn't have been picked up in the first place. Same with buying games based on stupidly high reviews that end as a disappointment to me. Yes, good reviews gets Joe/Jane Everyday, to pick up a copy. I won't deny that. I'd be more worried if the reviews talk about how the gameplay or online features being a disappointment. That hurts a fighting game even more.

Pretty much.

Some people are worrying way too much about reviews and sales.

It's going to review fine. The gameplay is there. It will be reviewed similarly to something like Splatoon which was maybe even more barebones at release (and has the same idea about adding content). Splatoon ended up being one of the Wii U's greatest success stories.

SFIV was also pretty damn barebones on it's initial release and sold over 3 million copies.

Reviews/Metacritic don't even influence sales as much as they used to (even though the reviews will be fine), Twitch and word of mouth does. And this game will be all over Twitch.

Just chill. It's Street Fighter. It will be fine.

people still bought battlefront heh (yeah i know star wars is wayyyyyy bigger in the grand scheme of things)

Well Well...

They dropped the whole "Console Exclusive" marker???

Why can't they decide to sell the game early here in Denmark, I would have had all weekend then, oh well.

I can't decide if I should get the normal edition or the steelbook version..

I think those sales had a good bit to do with the fact a mainline SF game was absent for a very long time + it had the original 8 as part of the initial line up. I still think SFV will still do pretty well though.

Seth's depicted on a building in the Metro City (City in Chaso) stage. It's clearly him before the installation of the Tandem Engine.
His moves left to right:
Urien & Seth's C.F, Guile Crouch, Chun-Li's Spinning Bird Kick, Hadoken, Sakura's Hurricane Kick, Gouken's Shoryuken, Rose's Kick, then back to previous moves.

Upon further inspection, it was found out it wasn't just artwork... it appears to be from an actual model. They have a model/char and gave the model a moveset that would include all the moves listed. This image was pieced together from stills of that model in various move positions. Although to be fair, I don't recall Seth doing Hadokens, Tatsumakis, or Spinning Bird Kicks.

Here's the source.
Yessss Seth for season 2!

Do you mean an actual vs with rounds? Because you could fight the CPU in training mode in SFIV and it went on indefinitely...

If it's like the beta, then you can actually set it to KO when the life bar goes to 0, and then it starts over again (you don't retain your meter from the previous round, though).

SFV is also being pushed heavy by Sony. Lots of commercials and what not. The "casual" base will be aware of the game and the bulk of them won't even know what it lacks or not until they take it home.

I also think people underestimate how many of the "casual" base actually does play online...they may not stick around but they do play online. who knows perhaps the delayed roll out actually gets a few of them to stick around...if anything I think that is what Capcom really wants.

I'm glad streaming is a lot more prevalent than it was a few years back so no one has to deal with this kind of fuckery (as delightfully silly as it was) anymore.

Been watching a few streams off and on today.

Also, I'd be surprised if the reviews don't mention the upcoming modes and content in their write-ups...

Yeah I'm glad they aren't stopping people from streaming it.

One of the biggest reasons why I'm so into competitive fighting games now is because I watched tons of Team Spooky/Arturo's stream of Super Street Fighter 4 before the game came out.

Also, I'd be surprised if the reviews don't mention the upcoming modes and content in their write-ups...

When people started talking about Alex and PS3 stick support, reviewers mentioned that their copies came with the Alex and stick info attached so reviews will no doubt mention that.

I have no worries about the reviews. SFV will hardly get 9s and 10s and seeing as SF4 is sitting at around 7ish on metacritic, I'm confident SFV will beat it.

When is the review embargo up?

I have no worries about the reviews. SFV will never get 9s and 10s and seeing as SF4 is sitting at around 7ish on metacritic, I'm confident SFV will beat it.

I wonder if reviewers will have some of the content dropping in March, actually.

For real?

And yeah, SFV will never get all 9s or even 10s. But I don't expect them to get super low scores. either.

This game could get straight 1s and I wouldn't give a fuuuuuuuuuck

Same. I've already put over 100 hours in the betas. I've literally played more of the game than most reviewers have. I know exactly what I want out of the game and what I'll get. Reviews are completely useless for me for this particular game.

The reviews aren't for you and me though, they're mostly for the extremely casual fanbase who likely won't even be playing the game in a couple months. With that in mind, Capcom probably should have put in a bit more single player stuff just to make up more money from that audience, since I'm sure that a lot of reviewers who don't really play fighting games will give it a low score which will affect sales.

Also, I'd be surprised if the reviews don't mention the upcoming modes and content in their write-ups...

Yep. Reviews for Splatoon did, as Nintendo did a lot to communicate their content release plans. Capcom has done the same.

Some reviews will knock it score wise for that, just like they did Splatoon, but most all of them will note the dlc plans (free and paid).

Do they have a streaming channel? Who are some of the more popular Street Fighter streamers and do they have a channel on Twitch?

You are right on the money i would be willing to put money on a 7.5 metacritic regardless of the gameplay being perfect

So, for those that don't have the game yet, what are your plans to get through the weekend?

For me, I'm playing the fuck out of 3rd Strike and watching SF2 The Movie.

Man with so much standard modes missing at launch this game will get annihilated by reviewers imo. Worse than battlefront. They will lose lot of potential sales. I won't be surprised to see this not even making the NPD charts next month.battlefront sold well because its star wars this on the other hand....
