But they're all incredibly different grapplers with Alex too being a lot different? There's no reason not to allow Alex a position on the roster.

I agree. Since they changed Birdie from charge to motions it would be nice to have someone fill that role. Plus I think just about everyone would be hype for Alex's inclusion regardless of whether or not many play him.
Then again, we don't know what Laura plays like yet. I'm doubting that she plays anything like traditional grapplers at all, but we'll find out soon enough.

Except we don't know if what makes Alex unique is going to be made unique in a different way for the sake of this game.
There's no way he doesn't get into this game. It might not be at launch, but he's going to get in the game. I have a hard time believing the opposite. And when he comes in, there's going to be something that differentiates him from the conglomerate Birdie/Mika/Gief you're describing.
Besides which, I'm certain you could combine lots of characters together and then compare that to a single player and go "see? There's no point in that player being in, because these three do kinda the same thing combined."
But you're never gonna actually play those three combined. So I'm not sure that reasoning actually invalidates Alex as a character, and that's even if we actually knew how he was gonna play for Street Fighter V, which we don't. Hell, we don't even reliably know how Birdie/Gief/Mika are going to play, because the game's still in beta and we already know for a fact the characters are still being worked on.

Be that as it may, the images are backed up via various people on the net, and if they follow discussions they'll likely realize stuff about Laura.

I know. What I'm saying is the number of people willing to do that (or already doing that) might not be as high as we (people who are doing that) might think they are.
What we're essentially talking about are spoilers, here. And while the spoiler game is fun as shit (regardless the medium) one thing I've found to be true in my experience is that usually, the people participating in that game are a fraction of the general audience, and a pretty small one at that.
Ono going full-steam ahead with his teasing is probably being done because someone was probably like "look - a lot of people know who this is. But there's a lot of people who don't, and aren't gonna care to go looking. So fuck it." Especially since this whole character reveal game is likely gonna be all wrapped up in about 2 weeks anyway.
I'm just saying that doesn't make him crazy.

I've chosen to forget and forgive, Ono's a cute lovable dude, personally I feel bad for him.
SF5 is shaping up to be a far better game than SF4 so kudos to him and his team for the work they put into it.

You know the more I think about it the more i feel that if there is a character reveal for NYCC then it's going to be Balrog. Reason being that
1.he is an American, so far most of Capcom's revealed characters nationality are based on the hosting region of the events. (eg; Karin at TGS Japanese event Japanese character, Rashid on Kuwait event, Laura on upcoming Brazil gameshow etc.)
2. If the story mode is Shadowloo vs Illuminati then the shadowloo crew is complete. With vega, bison and balrog. But this is ofcourse if there is a story mode in this game.
3. Capcom dislike for zoners for SFV, I feel they want a offense heavy game. Even ultrachen was talking about how they would like to see a fireball heavy zoning character will work on this game. And each character having so many options to get around fireballs I think balrog makes more sense over the likes of Guile.
4. Already 3 and maybe potentially 4 grapplers(if laura is a grappler) in the game. So putting alex in now is just stupid but then again this is capcom who knows.

The main problem with this is that Balrog left Shadaloo back in 4
I would love Boxer because it would mean PR Rog would pick him in this game too, but I don't think it's him. People have mentioned here before, but Boxer cut his ties with Shadowloo in IV, so he is not associated with him anymore. I don't think it's Alex either.
Imo, there is a good chance every character announced after Laura will have some sort of zoning capabilities.
Impossible, no one likes Blanka.

Also, it'd be cool if Zen was Remy's dad and link in well to 3S.

Isn't Rog from Las Vegas anyway? If anything, he would be revealed at PSX.
