I figure I toss this idea out in the open and see how well-received it is: A contest to see which city has the worst local advertisements.

Give the members here a week or two to record on tivo/vhs/whatever bad local ads. After that time period (or during it), they post the videos and it all ends with a big vote .

Too many problems with this though that I can think of. I doubt many people have a good method of actually capturing the video. And the worst ads themselves (at least in my area) are fairly elusive.

Thoughts?

i think it would be much easier to have people take pictures of worst local billboards, etc. i'm sure i could find a couple.

When i was in Detroit, the award would've probably gone to a barber shop called "We Be Cuttin' Hair And Stuff". It's actually the best name ever, though.

My home town wins, or would have won several years ago. I don't know how local it was, maybe it was all of the Chicago area, but there was a commercial for an auto insurance company called Eagle Man that was so fucking cheesy it was infamous.

guy in eagle suit: "Hello....I've..got..something...for yooooooou..."

girls: "awwww, look at those loooow rates"
