My usb mouse suddenly started having issues. When I plug it into my laptop, about half the time it won't work and I get a message "USB Device Not Recognized". I'm completely technologically inept, can someone explain why this started happening? I've had this mouse for about 2 years.

When that happened to me some years back, it was seemingly because the wire was beat up too much and not longer making a proper connection/signal to the computer. I would imagine it's a hardware issue, unless you did something like get a new computer or OS recently.

Which is the correct way?

"you're my best friend"

"you are my best friend"

or are they both correct?

They're both correct but since you're presumably speaking to your best friend I'd say "You are my best friend" sounds too formal. So I'd personally use "You're my best friend".

So I live in an old apartment block, where the bathroom and kitchen do not have extractor fans.

Since moving in a year ago, I've showered with the window wide open (one of those open at the top windows) every day since I moved in, regardless of how cold it ever got.

The previous tennant/landlady used a matte-like paint for the ceiling and it's absorbed ashitton of moisture, looks like light mould but hasn't softened the ceiling or anything. Seems to be purely cosmetic.

Is there any chance I'll lose some deposit on this? The only thing I can really cling to is the matte-paint thing, as she can just say I lied about opening windows...

Advice??

I have a really strange problem with Quicktime Pro on OS X.

When I trim a video, if playing it in QT, or in preview (spacebar), it's as I intended, if I put it in another video program, it's completely fucked. The audio will be cut as I intended, but the video will be miles out, there can be seconds of footage I've actually removed from the video, still in there.

Any idea what's up?

Probably depends on where you live, but my assumption is always that if you can get nailed for something, you will.

Not sure why it would matter if you opened windows or not--the end result is what matters.

Well if I've done all I can reasonably do to prevent it reaching that stage, I'm not sure they could still pin it on me. There's no extractor fan and the paint isn't suitable for a wet room.

The bathroom had also clearly been repainted before I moved in, ceiling was totally clean and there's dried paint on the carpet and bath tub.

The only sure fire way of preventing this from ever occurring was to not shower...

when you get in an accident and it's a "total loss" from teh insurance standpoint... as in the repairs are more than the cost of the vehicle...

what happens then? My car is under my dad's insurance and I got rear ended recently. So they just pay you the amount of the repair instead of actually fixing the car? or what? I guess they are talking to my dad right now but I was just wondering.

^ Yes, they pay you the amount it's valued at in your area minus deductible (if applicable).

If your car breaks down in the middle of rush-hour traffic and there's no way to get it off the road by yourself, should you call 911 or a tow truck?

911.

This has actually happened to me.

If I received GBA games from a seller on eBay and they were counterfeit (Listing counterfeit merchandise is against eBay TOS) am I still responsible for returning the items before I get a full refund?

Edit: The answer to this question is HELL NO ;)

Is there any sort of consensus on eggs as a healthy food? I mean, I know it's not exactly a bowl of veggies on my plate, but they're not still considered unhealthy, right? Looking to improve my diet somewhat and I have eggs from time to time for breakfast. Basically just fry them with a touch of olive oil.

I want an iphone 5, but I am not eligible to upgrade till March 2013 with AT&T.

What are my options? Cancel pay a termination fee and go with Sprint?
call and talk to AT&T.............

What do I do.

Is there anyone of you who use bootcamp?

I installed Windows 7 on my mac, snow leopard.

Everything went great until I was on win 7 desktop. Of course having no drivers installed yet I can't une the double finger right click for the trackpad, no sound button and light button..

When I go on bootcamp utility and click on "download bootcamp assistant for windows" it tells me that there isn't one. I did download bootcamp 3.1 but when I use it on win 7 not much happens. The nvidia software opens, I have the download bar for "installing drivers" but it closes before anything happen.

Of course I'm abroad until January so I don't have my OS cd.

Does somebody know what to do?

Thanks

I have a flight on United an d it says I can bring a 4 5 linear inch carry-on luggage. Is that just a standard small luggage?

As an ignorant european: there are free clinics - maintained by universities - in the USA, which offer free healthcare for anyone, right?

To me, that basically sounds like universal healthcare anyway, but obviously, there is some kind of catch here, or people wouldn't be upset about the system.

Anyone care to fill me in, or maybe point me in the direction of a good book on the subject?

I am going to Iowa for a wedding and need to book a flight and room. Never traveled a lot, so I got worried about what dates to book. Since rates and stuff will probably be handled by Priceline/Hotwire I want to be sure I book stuff correctly.

If I land Thursday and leave Saturday, would I book the room for Thursday and Friday only?

There's the issue of availability, and most tend to be on sliding pay scales.

And they're not necessarily provided by universities.

Does your waist size match with your pants size? My waist size is 35.5 and i wear 32 jeans.

Are you sure you're measuring your waist? Most people measure closer to their hips.

(of course the difference is bigger for women)

Quote for new page.

Yes. You are staying at the hotel Thursday and Friday night. You don't need a room booked for Saturday you are checking out that day.

Please, for the love of GOD, what is the most current process to block app invitations on Facebook?

Every tutorial I find is outdated, Facebook must change their formula to elude detection more often than Lance Armstrong's connections.

I would prefer a mobile method, but knowing those hideous bastards there probably isn't one. So I'll take ANY way to stop these pains in the ass with extreme prejudice.

Short of deleting my account.

Why is Facebook giving me notifications for when my "close friends" do various mundane things like post a picture, despite the fact that my "close friends" list is empty and I have notification for "close friends" turned off?

It does seem to know who should be counted as close friends, so is it maybe grabbing people off the recommended list for that or something?

Let me rephrase a question I asked a few pages back. I'm writing a book that is fiction but includes some non fiction in it. The book includes a man being arrested. My question is should I have sections of a chapter that mention the person going to court and the persons time in court?

Does it advance the plot or the character?

Ok stupid question here.

My wife and I were having a discussion about TV writers. She is convinced that most all writers have the complete vision for a show mapped out before it goes into production.

I on the other hand think that while true in a few cases the majority have a general idea and flesh things out as they go.

Need a GAF ruling on this one.

Not really. I haven't actually written this part but I'm debating on whether I should. It might give out background info? Right?

Then the answer is no. If there's necessary backstory that must be gotten across, sprinkle it in scenes that do advance plot or character.

Do you mean overarching plotlines/mythology a la Lost, BSG, the Sopranos? JMS was well-known for having plotted out the entirety of Babylon 5 before it ever went into production (even then, a few things changed along the way)--that he was well-known for it kind of implies it's rare.

I think far more often there's a general idea and it's fleshed out as they go. Sometimes they might have an ending already in mind.
