To expand a little, the forum used to automatically turn :lol into the laughing smiley Jzero posted. This feature was taken out a year or two ago, as Evilore felt people overused it and it stifled discussion.

Some people still use the character string, even though it doesn't do anything anymore.

you can get addons that bring smiley's back

Okay, so I need the help of you fine lads and gals.

My GF has grown obsessed with finding out the name of the movie the following quote is from:

"Can't we bend the rules? Yeah sometimes we bend the rules."

And that may not even be verbatim. Does that ring anyone's bell? I have scoured the internet but my search has proved unsuccessful.

What the fuck is up with the centre of this apple I just bit in to?

I got some penicillin today for my swollen tonsils, a nasty cough and a cold of some sort and I need to eat the pills for ten days. But I want to go out and dance and talk to people etc (tonight/tomorrow/most of next week). Bad idea? I'm not gonna drink any alcohol (though that's apparently not that big of a deal these days according to wikipedia, the medicine is strong enough to handle that). I have school to take care of too. I probably should've asked the doctors but I forgot... It broke out this Monday night so I'm about five days in.

Going out should be fine. Its just an antibiotic.
No risk of the symptoms becoming worse from exhaustion etc? If I die, it's on you ;)

Edit: Considering it's an unknown disease and confirmed NOT to be what we suspected, I have no idea if I'm contagious or how, technically. Grey zone morality? :lol

what's it called when you ride around on someone's shoulders? I was calling it piggyback before, but that's lower and you hold their thighs. There's the game chicken in the pool...

Why is Superman's weakness Kryptonite if he is from the planet Krypton? That's like someone from Earth's weakness is earth.

I think it's because the explosion caused the kryptonite chunks to become soaked with radiation. That's what I heard, so I don't know if they changed it since then.

No idea about Superman but I Googled it:
"Well, the basic idea behind it is that it is material from his home planet... and on his own planet, he *isn't* a superhero... he's just normal. So, being around material similar to himself can take away his special powers."

Well use common sense, if you feel more tired than usual or particularly weak then stop. But otherwise you should be fine.

Unknown disease? I thought you had tonsillitis?

When my 4 year old asks for that, it's called a shoulder ride (he's sitting on my shoulders). Piggyback, he's got his arms around my neck, legs around my waist (he's 4 after all).

YMMV ;)

Do other people bump up against the post limit much?

I feel like I get the warning at least once a day. Maybe I post too much...

I run into it in the Vita thread. I usually take it as a sign to stop posting, because if it takes less than a minute for me to make a post, read another post, hit reply, and type up my response, whatever I was going to post probably wasn't too substantial to begin with.

That's not true. That explains what exposure to a red sun does to him, but kryptonite doesn't just take away his powers, it hurts him.

The radiation explanation is pretty much true. Comic book physics means that his radiation is lethal to him just as ours is lethal to us. Though prolonged exposure (talking about years) to kryptonite has shown to have negative effects on humans as well.

Does anyone know if there is a service like Celga that will import something from the UK for me?

Celga is a website whom you use as an intermediary to purchase goods from Japan that won't ship to wherever you are.

It went alright. I have all the symptoms of tonsillitis but tests confirmed that it's not caused by the usual streptocock bacteria and the doctors couldn't see what actually caused it so penicillin is just a test basically. Hopefully it'll work is what they said. Doctors.

This is a science (astronomy, physics) question: We know that black holes form after a star collapses (from stellar black holes to super massive ones) due to running out of fuel. During the death of massive stars we witness supernova in which tremendous energy and materials are ejected. So when a black hole forms, does it have the gravitational pull of what remains of the star itself or is it greater than that? In effect does density affect gravity for a fixed amount of mass?

To stay basic: You can't get more gravity, since gravity is a factor of mass.

Can someone make a gif of the 1:31 mark where she says "look at you" and have it say in big bold white text "Look at chu!" synced up with her mouth? Thanks.

Why is there a 60s waiting period after searching for something on GAF? I never understood it.

A very simply DoS attack is to script a search that occurs every so many ms. Limiting search queries per user is one way to avoid this, though if you have enough active users searching at once this won't protect you.
