For anyone that cares there are subs for the Eureka Seven movie out now.
I just got done with it a little while ago. I guess I'll put my impressions of it here, since I don't really feel like digging up and bumping the old Eureka series thread at the moment.

Really not sure exactly how I feel about it. Objectively speaking, as a narrative, it's a total mess and kind of all over the place. The problem isn't that they changed everything but that they changed everything and didn't really explain anything behind the changes. We get just enough information that we can recognize key terms and sort of follow what's going on, but for pretty much anything deeper than that, the exposition isn't there. And even following what's going on becomes a problem. Almost all the characters are difficult to get a feel for except for Renton, who is pretty much the only one with an extremely clear and obvious focus.

And yet, even with all the problems, man, it was fun to watch and nice to see a lot of the characters again (even if some of them were totally jackasses this time around). The new animation was pretty ace, too.

Also, I <3 Renton and Eureka. So as long as we've got the two of them, I'm happy. (Even if their relationship wasn't the same natural sort of build that it was in the series but instead more of a starcrossed thing.)

How many of you still watching anime are over age 25? I keep trying to find something that appeals to me to get back in, but it seems like every season there is nothing. Seems like everything being made is either for kids or creepy otaku guys.

I am turning 28 this year, and i always find something interesting to watch every season. Im not expecting animes to blow my mind anymore though, so i just relax and enjoy some of them.

I have two words really for E7 movie. It sucked.

I'm in my mid-30s so, yeah, I reckon you can just file me under creepy otaku guys.

Oh! I will try to see it if it is not too crowded : this year is the 10th anniversary, the expo started today, and people are waiting like 3 hours to enter :-(
I'll be there tomorrow and Sunday.

I live in Paris' suburb, more or less at 10 minutes by car from where the expo is taking place.
I will try to do a report about Canaan and all the interesting stuff I will see.
CLAMP will be there too, but the crowd for them will be massivly huge :-(

Incredibly ballsy but also a dick move.

Lol, I love how balls are good while the dick is bad, just how did it come to that?

Better not be true.
It's a joke, this weeks episode is one more Endless Eight and then they move on to the summer's plotline.

Good.

I can never tell with the way they've handled the second season.

I really wanna see
Alternate Nagato
but I guess we'll see.

28 here. I usually find something to watch every season and have a huge backcatalog since I only got to the scene three years ago. American shows for me, just boil down to 24 and How I met your mother lately. And since both are getting set for their new seasons, I've got nothing to watch right now. Tried getting into BSG but the show is just so dry with so little humor. I just couldn't stomach the so called, 'best show on television,' anymore.

30 here. Been watching since the early '90s. There's 1 or 2 shows a season now that I enjoy, and the rest I won't touch with a 30 foot pole.

28 here. I have to choose very carefully, but I can usually find one or two caveat-free, genuinely good shows to watch each season. Honestly, I don't need anything more than that. Just avoid the stuff that's obviously made for creepy otaku, kids, or fangirls, and you pretty much end up with what's good (with rare exceptions).

Will check out
Canaan and Tokyo Magnitude
Watched the first episode of Umi Monogatari and it seemed decent

pretty crap variety there in the OP, but there's quite a few series that i'm still following from the spring so it's not too bad

Needless. :lol That was a bit crazy. The action scenes were quite over the top (think along the lines of Hellsing).

Also skimmed through Taishou Baseball Girls and ehhh....I'll wait for subs before I give an opinion.

Just watched the first episode of Aoi Hana, really enjoying the art style and animation, Akira Chan's ( Orange Hair ) voice's kind of annoying though, hoping the pace picks up in the next episode.

Quick Question:

Is there enough interest in Japanese Live Action shows for me to make a Summer 2009 JDrama preview thread? I'm a huge fan and I want to spread the love.

I doubt it. That other thread hardly ever gets bumped.

That said, is the Twin Spica drama any good? I'm quite a fan of the anime.

I often wonder if it's because nobody knows what is coming up. A good chunk of these shows are adaptations of manga just like Anime. They have their own charm. Mostly Shoujo manga, more than anything else.

I think we have a JDrama thread somewhere, don't know if there'd be enough interest in a new thread, but I'd like to see what you have to post.

Also would you mind if I asked you to PM a quick list with what you think is the best out there? I rarely watch JDramas because I'm always waiting for recommendations and never do the research myself.

I might just make the thread. Work will be lame tomorrow, anyway.

For those in Japan or with Key-Hole, NTV is airing Evangelion 1.0 Friday at 9pm JST (today!). There is going to be new footage not found on the recent Blu-ray release.

Sha-la-la-la-la-la
My, oh, my
Look at the boy too shy
He ain’t gonna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Ain’t that sad
Ain’t it shame, too bad
You gonna relive the same two weeks for eternity.

Fuck you KyoAni, 4 episodes on this bullshit.

27 here.

There's usually at least one thing each season. Spring this year actually had quite a bit of diversity for a change. Eden of the East might be a good choice. It's by the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex / Seirei no Moribito team. Other options are Souten Kouro (yet another anime based in one way or another on Romance of the Three Kingdoms) and Ristorante Paradiso (if you want something targeted more at the adult female audience).

There's also Guin Saga, which is some fairly straightforward fantasy fare, and Cross Game, a baseball series (this might have too many kids for your taste, though...or maybe not).

So yeah, stuff is out there. This summer season is pretty lacking in substance, though. But yeah, the generic moe and shounen crap tends to comprise the overwhelming bulk of new offerings each season. It's just the lowest common denominator type material when it comes to anime. It's kind of like American TV, only with big eyed girls in school uniforms instead of generic reality shows.

WTF!? Seriously? Three versions of the same movie wasn't enough?

Wow. I forgave Kyoto Animation for K-On when I gave it another go, but lately they're starting to piss me off.

I've read the book. I re-read it (er... skimmed it) after watching this episode just to reconfirm what I remembered. It does NOT go on for this long. Seriously, what the hell are they playing at now? If there's some sort of hidden message they're trying to get across, I've completely missed it.

Are they just trying to see how many of these fans will watch before they just give up?

Samurai Champloo has just been re-released, so I'm buying the box for the first time, love that show!!! Also, just discovered Black lagoon, I proclaim this anime to be one of the most kick ass series in recent memory. I know this thread's abou tnew releases, but I'm just sooo excited about these right now!

Yeah the message is "Haha you have been trolled"

To anyone who saw Suzumiya Haruhi's Endless Eight pt.3: did you get the nod at Battlestar Galactica when Kyon notices Nagato standing at the poolside?

Got my claws on Umineko 1, loved it from the the opening even. They got Akiko Shikata to sing the op (Actually she did the game's too), but anyone unfamilar tho, she did the songs that Misha and Chroche sang in Ar Tonelico 1/2 respectively. Also their opening themes too. That said, I absolutely loved Higurashi, though I still need to see Rei. But I already like what's starting to build up here, and with the cast supporting it. I'm expecting great great things

Hell, Miko Ito already started to deliver as Eva. Daisuke Ono's pretty good as Battler.

But some thoughts...
Man, when she was degrading Natsuhi, that was extremely cold. Also, when Maria got slapped by Rosa, it was so painful to watch. Yui Horie delivering pretty well too with Maria, as annoying as she is, she's hitting the nail on the head.

What nod? I don't see how it was a reference to BSG.

I did however feel an intense anger because the longer they focus on this the more probable it is I won't get to see
alternate universe Nagato
.

Listen to the music on that moment. Doesn't it remind you of something?

Maybe...
being a cylon?
I'll just have to take your word, because like Kyon and most of us here, the idea of watching that scene yet again shakes the foundations of my soul, or something equally or more so dramatic.
