I never doubted you, Seiji Kishi. Not after Seto no Hanayome and Sunred.

Even after Angel Beats happened.

And Kamisama Dolls.

And Persona 4.

And Carnival Phantasm.

---

That was a good episode. Some nice comedic timing with the show's usual deadpan delivery of all the surreal shit in its world. It's too bad that the 'twist' in the middle was already seen in the PVs, but I don't think it took much away from it.

Is there a source for this? More Chihayafuru is a great thing.

But the great Firehawk-san said that nothing of interest will happen in season two because it's going to carry on being a shounen-sports series (that happens to have a girl in it).

Prisma Illya is a guaranteed seller, so some extra expenditure on actual animation is probably a given.

Oh wow I missed the Prisma Illya news. I might watch just for the lolz so I'm not that annoyed that Silver Link is doing it. It should get heavy amounts of funding though.

Type-Moon Fes Day 2 just announced details on the Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya anime:

Director: Shin Oonuma
Animation Production: Silver Link

It will be released in 2013.

Lololololololol. Silver Link. LOL.

How bad of a bad thing is that?

duckroll, you should explicitly warn me about how shitty this could be before it comes into existence!

Yeah, I'm watching it, and what a marvelous giant clusterfuck it is.
Jesus fucking christ, I had no idea what the fuck was going on for the first three episodes, but I got the hang of it now, and I'm kind of starting to enjoy it. Yeah, there's a lot of usual otaku pandering stuff, but I like the world, it's extremely detailed and imaginative, although the way it's presented is crap (I did a little side reading), and the characters and all the different factions and the weapons and everything, there's a lot of stuff to dig into it's overwhelming, but I like it in a way.
It's what I imagined most anime would be like while I was a kid - big boobs, robots, huge swords and spears, interesting powers, great action and a convoluted plot, so I guess this show brings out the kid in me (every show does that, but this one more so than the others).
The action in episode four really was great, I'm hoping for more stuff like that.

The show has huge problems that I'm sure most people here are aware of, it was really hard to go through the beginning episodes, but it's unique in a way, not many anime have this kind of high fantasy mixed with SF vibe, and the plethora of characters gives it a bit of an anime Game of Thrones feel.
I'll definitely stick with this one, try to finish it by tomorrow so I can jump into the second season.
Sorry to everyone who tried to talk me out of watching this, but I'm kind of glad I did.
It's flawed, but not boring and it's definitely unique, and I find myself appreciating the good stuff more than hating on the bad stuff.

But I'm still only 5 episodes in, so hopefully it doesn't get worse.

You didn't watch Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, did you? It's probably going to look like that, except with more animation.

The Silver Link + Oonuma combination is basically SHAFT Auxiliary Detachment now that SHAFT has gone super conservative and only milks their flagship properties instead of throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Someone kill Klein already. He couldn't have made the first ten minutes more boring. Yes, you found a way to kill a boar. Congratulations? There has got to be a better way to fill time while keeping the exposition.

It did pick up in the second part, but it stopped when the plot finally got going, you know, how it should have started in the first place. Not explaining the dumb sidekick stuff that isn't that relevant to the viewer.

I did find it funny that it naturally turned out to be a sausage fest, but then the ED showed multiple haremettes. Keep it classy. I kind of hope his sister has secretly gone to play the game as well. More dorama.

Also, 2000 deaths in the first month already? If you're a noob, then stay in town where you can't be hurt, fools. Unless there's a way to hostile other players. Would be funny.

I don't think it counts as nitpicking if the stupidity inherent in the premise is enough to distract you from the work that you're watching because you keep thinking about how dumb it is.

Well that's gonna vary from person to person. Like sonicmj1 said, some of the stuff you guys are complaining about to me is akin to the reviewer that said Ratatouille sucked because having a rat in the kitchen is unsanitary. Something like distribution method REALLY doesn't matter even if DD miraculously became the dominant method in Japan by 2022.

So more focus on karuta? It makes me sad to see them focusing more on the one aspect that makes the anime bad.

It's a great thing with eye porn, you are going to watch it and enjoy it mister!

Britain always get the coolest super powers.

If anything, I am glad this episode didn't slip back into the old time classic method of dumping exposition in order to get people back on track as the first episode of the second season. Nope! They go right into the action and expected you to actually watched the earlier episodes.

The action was really good. There was no endless debates, everyone pretty much got a chance to shine and do their actions. The new villains have pretty fun and diverse powers and that's what I want to see. Basically Blazblue's character roster tossed into an anime.

Sure, there was also penis grab, teaching the birds and the bees, and boobs, but that was still fun.

The new Opening and new Ending feel inferior to the last ones. Both use lots of recycled seasons from them which kind of dilutes how good they could be. Songs were decent but nothing to make them as memorable as Tabidase fly away, da da dah. Though at least its used in the eye catch.

I thought it was a good start to this half though presenting some compelling questions
like why is Muginami fighting Lan, what is important about Madoka again, why is Pharos holding this intergalactic meeting, why is Villagiulio around, and what are they testing Lan for?
.

Best moments were with Izocchi, Kirius, and Array.

Character design is worse than Sengoku Collection. There, I said it.

They don't look that bad, expect that every general is suddenly a teenage girl.

Horizon has a better first episode than Sword Art Online.

The first season or the second season?

the superpower looks more irish than british

Well it is pretty much a mashup of Britain, Ireland and everything in between there. With tennis, Shakespeare, Queen Titania and riverdancing, they are covering everything.

That image looks worryingly off-model and flat compared to anything from the first cour. Dramatic budget cuts confirmed?

[Gunslinger Girl – 9]

I briefly talked about this episode when I first watched it however I promised that, in the light of how well made it was, a lengthier review and analysis was on the cards. Today I have come to deliver that analysis and, at the same time, give the show itself a rather closer look that I have done previously. This episode touches on a number of Gunslinger Girl’s (hereafter referred to as GG for the sake of brevity) core ideas and themes so by I talking about episode nine at length I will hopefully be able to expose some things about the series as a whole. At least, that’s the idea.

Then again, I might just end up killing you all with reams of text. I hope not.

Nice post. I feel like I should probably rewatch the series because it was among the first TV anime I watched, and I would probably appreciate the execution a lot more now.

Go on, read that sentence again because it sounds really stupid. I suppose that it is really stupid in concept, but the execution here is simply superb. Morio Asaka and Madhouse treat this concept extremely seriously and the whole production is far classier than you’d imagine. Just check out this OP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTxkOM7PMRE

Relevant to this thread, Morio Asaka is a Madhouse long-timer who has also directed shows such as Chihayafuru, Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, Galaxy Angel, and Nana.

In the end it turns out that what Lauro chooses not to care about and actively ignore is the most important part of his whole job. It will be interesting to see what repercussions, if any, will behalf him for not understanding this very basic principal.

Now I really want to see your reactions to the next two episodes!

Hey, part of the reason that I'm actually able to watch Sengoku Collection is that the designs are the usual drab otaku pander cranked up to insane levels! The stuff in Oda Nobuna is just passable enough to come off as soulless rather than actively on industrial-strength crack. It's that bad > boring philosophy again!

Sounds like a terrible philosophy.

We should just compare them at the end of the season and see what was worse!

I read Sword Art Online LN up to book 3 beforehand.
The pace looks to be quite slower than I thought, it'll probably get through just book 1-2 this season.

It was interesting to compare the image in my head with the pictures.
Scenes such as the empty alley pretty much nailed it.
