[Gunslinger Girl] - 7

This show is so weird. At times it doesn't even feel like an anime. Perhaps that's just all the Europe-porn talking though. This episode was particular good if you enjoy slow panning shots of Italian cities (and who doesn't). There was also some nice gun-recoil sakuga for all the firehawks in the world.

What really strikes me is how serious this show is. Not only is there no overt winking at the audience there's not even a single attempt at levity or comedy to soften the tone. You can tell a serious story and still have people make the odd joke or two but that's not something that I've ever seen in this show. It's rather unrelenting.

This episode - Jean and Rico go to a museum to discuss sculpture and painting. Along the way they happen to get into a few shootouts.

I don't think that's entirely the reason. It's more like "most Japanese are pretty awful at English, so they don't know that it's wrong." :D

Those Japanese who actually know English, probably wouldn't make a mistake like that. I don't think anyone can "interpret English phonetically" and actually know the language...

Of course most Japanese are terrible at English. To elaborate on what I meant, they've kind of incorporated their aural impressions of English into the framework of their native language, so when they try writing it they use either "l" or "r" as the fancy takes them, since it all sounds the same to them. A bastardized version of English has pretty much become part of Japanese these days.

Aniplex proudly presents the "Annoy Hikaru Kondo and Ei Aoki with Your Dumbass TYPE-MOON Questions Happy Hour"

I have no idea how Kondo could keep answering tactfully after getting three different requests for TM adaptations.

One of the questions was even about whether or not F/Z had a large budget, since the Rider/Archer battle was not exactly the same as it was in the novel. Jesus fucking Christ.

Someone needs to get up an ask if he's been trained in handling stupid, inconsequential questions. (Then they need to actually ask a real question, of course, or they'd just be a hypocrite.)

It's just weird when they misspell words... then again, is loli an English word? lol

Amazing!

Sankarea End - I'm just wondering, I'm assuming that the manga is on-going so they ended it the way they did?

It's funny, Sankarea and Dusk Maiden ended up being very similar in terms of set up and theme, but both approached their arcs fairly differently. They even ended on a similar future-looking note, but handled their (manga is still going!) endings fairly differently.

In my head, I'm going back and forth on what feels more complete... the
non-ending
of Sankarea or the
sappy-happy ending
of Dusk Maiden. I almost like the
indeterminacy
of the Sankerea ending because it just happens and doesn't try to
close everything up neatly
.

Although, I suppose the cynical way to look at it is that they're leaving room for a season 2 if the sales are good.

The catching up was mostly enjoyable, though those self pity moments always rub me the wrong way. At least Haru was able to get his harem to grow, plus the possible direction of
Haru getting taken over by the armor and devouring Snow Black.

'Loanwording gone completely insane" is an apt description for every language ever.

I don't even know if people can even figure out where current English came from.

Finally, some exposition!
So I guess the big sleep is the reason everyone is still alive in the 30th century? Or is there more to be explained at that end? I guess the sailors crystalising Usagi is the reason Chibiusa said that the Sailors had attacked her mother in the future. It's nice to finally have some explanations!

Maturity, bitches.
Was at the niconico exhibit until about half an hour ago. It was great fun, drawing on the box Gundam and pushing people in demand.

Now waiting on the Aoki and Kondo panel. Can't wait.
Did you go onto the stream? I was buy looking after a dog/welcoming my parents home so I could watch the stream as much as I wanted to. Good thing I reserved my timeslot so I can watch it tomorrow.

I was watching that for far too long. How mad was Joel when he came on? Stream turned on him fast.

That's because when he came on the first time yesterday he came off as a bit obnoxious, especially after everyone's favourite MC Ryo. Now it's just become a bit of friendly banter.

Switch the first two and switch the last two and you have my list.

Although I guess I appreciate RC to an extent for trying to be an actual brass piece.

Lolicon is short for 'Lolita Complex' so loli is an abbreviation of an abbreviation of an English phrase. Loanwording gone completely insane, in essence.
Yeah, that's about right. But even the Japanese should have a consistent way to spell their English loan words!

English is the true Esperanto.

Considering how much Japanese media you've consumed, I'd have assumed you'd be used to their mangling of English by now.
Well, I'm just constantly surprised at the lack of spell check is all.
Advertisement for the manga indeed!

That would be intriguing
though hes lvl four and shes nine would be impossible for him to do that, I think

That's not Hagure Yuusha no Estetica.

Seems like something funi would get.

They do... in Japanese.

Well, I'm just constantly surprised at the lack of spell check is all.

If anyone in Japan really cared about getting it right, they could easily pull some random American expat off the street to tell them that their English is completely nonsensical.

I still remember how the English captions/subtitles for that English episode of Ika Musume didn't match what the characters were speaking... even though the animators/director must have seen the script at some point. God damn it. :p

The ending was original and not in the manga, which made the openness kind of weird.
Wait, does the manga actually end? I mean, the way the anime ends allows it to both "end" but also leave room for more if that happens.

I don't even know if people can even figure out where current English came from.

The basic sentence structure and grammatical form of English is Germanic. However English evolved alongside the Romance (Latin-derived) languages of the main European continent and so it contains many words from the Romance languages, despite having a fundamentally different basis. English is basically a mishmash of all the Western European languages but it's fundamentally derived from the same root which gave rise to the modern German language.

At least Cindy spoke it damn well with only a minor accent.

The manga is still ongoing. I'm just saying, the anime's ending was original.

You forgot to mention that this was all BEFORE it started borrowing shit from everywhere else just because :p

That was easily the most shocking part of the episode, which is saying something considering how bizarre it ended up getting.

Requiem from the Darkness EP1

This turned out to be better than expected.

I had my doubts after the first 5 minutes, thinking it had too much comedy for a horror anime, but I'm glad that I was proven wrong. It does look a bit cheap and that turned me off as well, but I think I can look past that, if continues like that.

I could have sworn I heard a slight accent in there, but I could be wrong. Either way, it's not something you see often.
Oh yeah, but it could have been say, a European speaking English or something. I remember thinking that the voice sounded different anyway, but it's been a while.

Yeah, it's not much of a looker in terms of perceived production values, but the show accomplishes its overall tone quite well.

Welp, Binbogami ga is 100% confirmed to be Funimation now. Someone found this image on their site:

boy, i sure cant wait for a simulcast that'll be 1-2 weeks late that i cant even access in my region

Requiem from the Darkness is a good show. I really enjoyed it when I watched it way back.

Good. I was mainly disappointed by Another, because it was recommended as horror/mystery anime and I really found it lacking in that department.

I still need to find something as good as Mononoke.
