But seriously, who are these people?

The loss of Sakura's magnificent mammaries was tragic, but Michiko was :cajun enough to mostly make up for it.

I can't say I care all that much about the actual events unfolding considering that nothing of significance is likely to happen, but at least it's a change in the formula. Also, I'm not a big fan of Keita.

No idea about Guilty Crown stuff.

No one cares about Takumu.

Sword Arts Online is too new.

Seen some Star Driver mecha figures.

I guess fujoshis don't care about figures if I never seen any Fairy Tail ones.

The real answer is probably because a lot of male main characters dont look very distinct or special. they are just there. the female characters usually have elaborate outfits or cute schoolgirl attire or whatever so they make suitable figurines that foreveralones like myself like to buy and collect. Shu would be a boring as hell figurine. The ones that aren't boring usually do get made, especially villains and characters with a crazy interesting design.

Really the biggest anime bomba in recent history. It's kinda amazing that mainline Gundam entry can sell so little. I wonder why Sunrise hasn't ceased the airing of AGE like they did with After War Gundam X?

I didnt realize there were so few of us gundam age fans, I wonder how many gundam fans even tuned in for it and where did they stop watching.

Hino must have bowed extremely low and begged them to keep it going.

Oh fuck, Mardock Scramble part two is out?

wish me luck, guys :(

Yes, yes it is. As you aren't already aware of that you get to go into spoiler-free, unlike those of us who've already read some reviews of it. I look forward to reading your report.

I went ahead and read the manga; it's pretty compact. I would say it's better than the film - it has a smoother flow and tighter focus. Even though it has less time for characterization, it uses the time it has more efficiently (no food fight!) and even includes some extra nuggets of cultural background that got left out. The plot surrounding the eleventh is more satisfying,
as there are stronger hints to his identity
. It doesn't completely resolve my concerns over how Frol is handled, but
it does make Frol's attraction to Tada more believable thanks to a late scene showing him sacrificing for Frol, puzzlingly omitted in the adaptatation.

All in all, I'm even more puzzled now as to why the film made the choices it did.

Thanks for taking the time to go and read the manga. Well, actually, it's pretty short so I don't imagine you were put out for too long.

I've only ever read the manga and I found it to be pretty satisfying at the time, but as it's been a few years since I've read it I wasn't sure if I was mis-remembering it better than it actually was. I'll have to sit down and re-read it some time soon,

At the Otakon Official Sunrise Gundam panel (which I attended), Shin Sasaki (GM of the Gundam division) acknowledged that while it has been challenging to reach the older (i.e. high school and up) demographic, they were starting to see some success with the younger demographic through tie-ins like the AGE trading card game. I think that Sunrise is so heavily invested in this collaboration with Level 5 that they were going to see the series through to the end no matter what.

Gunslinger Girl 4

As for visual direction, there was nothing too striking in this episode. A couple of dynamics for intimate discussion was all of the notable marks this time around. It was pretty standard with that aside. Nonetheless, I like the format of these episodes thus far. They are greatly episodic, but entertaining while offering character building.

What you've described just there is kind of the 'ideal' for a series, at least, a series that wants to be popular. You can start watching from just about any episode in the series and follow along okay, but if you watch the whole show you will reap a greater benefit in terms of your understanding of the characters. Another example of this would be Cowboy Bebop.

One aspect that you didn't mention there is the world-building. I feel like nearly every episode in the show goes some way to build up the world of the series, either in subtle or overt ways, and I really like the way this information builds up as the show progresses. The show is still episodic in nature but these facets tie every together and make the world feel cohesive and believable. Which is quite a feat, considering that the premise of Gunslinger Girls is "little girls get turned into cyborg assassins and kill criminals" which is about as anime as you can get.

give it a few years and it just won't be Vehicles and Crowds that are consumed by the forever expanding shitty CG beast
Ah but it's not just crodws and vehicles that have become CG! Watch out for these other CG monsters waiting to ruin your favourite anime:

- fluids of all varieties e.g. blood, water

- smoke

- fire

- fans

- horses

- armour

- guns

- doors. This one might go unnoticed by most people because the textures on CG doors go some way to masking their existence but I can still spot them fairly easily because they tend to move at a framerate that differs from the rest of the animation and so they look unnaturally smooth.

AnimeGAFers watchine anime because of Hyouka is a little bit like otaku visiting the town that an anime is set in, except it's a little bit more productive.

Actually, when I mentioned watching the movie Them! earlier, it was because I saw it was mentioned in Metal Gear Solid 3, so I decided to see what it was like. A few things I've wound up seeing or reading was because I saw it referenced elsewhere such as that.

If someone wants suffering they should watch Now and Then, Here and There.

Or Black Rock Shooter TV for more vicarious suffering.

Is Now and Then, Here and There actually a good show or not? I'm getting very mixed messages on this one.

Well, regardless of your level of past experience with the franchise, it's always good to find another fan. AnimeGAF has undergone a small revolution in the last few months in terms of how big the Smile bandwagon is getting.

I like Smile PreCure!'s easy going attitude as it works as a nice pick me up. If I'm maybe feeling a bit down then watching the show will cheer me up.

The episode just before revealing
Pierrot
has maybe kind of a cliche never give up and you can defeat the bad guy type speech/tone to it but sometimes I find you need those types of little talks to re-motivate yourself sometimes.

Hey I only recommended shows I actually gained enjoyment from. I can't speak for others.

I legitimately like Now and Then, Here and There.

Black Rock Shooter TV is not good, but it can be entertaining in the sense of being so bad and melodramatic that it's fun.

Usually, like most everyone else, I don't find myself saying this but I actually liked how the CG was implemented in BRS TV. The other-world segments I mean, you don't need to post the picture of the red car in the regular world.

I think that really might be true. I really enjoyed a lot of anime that people here like to shit on for some reason (Fate Stay Night, Angel Beats, NTHT, a bunch of harem shows), but everybody is entitled to an opinion of course. Its just interesting to see this microcosm that thinks so differently than what the apparent majority does. I like the influx of different opinions and insights into shows that the mainstream does not seem to recognize that keeps my backlog growing.

I do like seeing how AnimeGaf's view in general sometimes differs from the mass fan audience. As far as the western or English speaking audience goes everyone seemed to love Angel Beats but coming to AnimeGaf I see a different general opinion. I may or may not agree with it but it is nice to see varying view points on different shows in the medium.

Hayate no Gotoku! - 27-28

YES! YESSS! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

In the words of Norio Wakamoto this episode: "Zettai unmei mokushiroku."

I haven't seen this show yet but as an Utena fan this caught my attention. I'll have to remember that.

I dont understand, really. At least in many anime of the genres I like, female characters are 95% of the time not really designed well or play any sort of role worth mentioning in their stories. Surely it cant be my fault when even the characters themselves call their self "worthless deadweight" like Naruto's Sakura Haruno, or just stand there for an entire 23 minute episode and say, and I kid you not, saying repeatedly whenever she gets screentime, "Kurosaki-kun, Kurosaki-kun, Kurosaki-kun, Kurosaki-kun, Kurosaki-kun". Characters need to have good design and do something substantial and significant to be likeable to me, however there are characters that can be awesome characters on design alone.

While I know you don't hate every female as you like Chris from Symphogear, it just came across that you really hated the majority of female characters. It could be because of the part it your quote that I highlighted though and we're just not watching the same types of shows.

I am watching Saint Seiya Omega though and would have to disagree about Yuna being useless. If you remember your conversation with 7Th then I'm in line with his way of thinking regarding her character. It seems he didn't change your mind though so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. What do you think about the character
Sonya? (The girl in the red and black armor)
What's your opinion on her?

Also regarding Inori in Guilty Crown would you still like her if she wasn't
Shu's sword?
Did you give your opinion on what you thought of Ayase(the wheelchair girl)? I don't recall.

Regarding your "worthless deadweight" type comment, didn't you find Shu in Guilty Crown often displayed this self hating defeatist type attitude? That's one of the reasons many people don't seem to care for him and Shinji from Evangelion

I just wanted some clarification on why you seemed to dislike so many female characters is all.

My gender is vocaloid.

Did you ever buy the 3DS Hatsune Miku game? Or do you still need a Japanese 3DS?

wrong!

Asakura is the best!

Asakura I think was my favorite character. Haruhi is one of the few shows in the last few years that I've seen the English dub as well so it could have just been because she's voiced by Bridget Hoffman. Personally I love her voice.

It seems Mayaka's cosplay convinced a lot of people here to watch They Were Eleven.

Now, who's gonna be the first one to marathon one of the many Himitsu no Akko-chan anime?

As one of the ones who watched the film just recently, I think I'll pass on Akko-chan for now.

I don't mind doors that much because it's not like anime has ever been known for great door animation.

The success of Unicorn is also probably reason why they can keep AGE in the air. Without Unicorn making money they would have probably dug up the old idea of SEED movie lol.

I suppose my time off wasn't for naught, then. Several months of hearing about Welldone the Pussyhand did terrible things to my expectations for the first, and I'd much rather go into the second with no beforehand knowledge of the horrors that await me.

lovely episode. hope things remain as they are for a little longer.

if i have one complaint about this show its that the episodes end so abruptly...

Gotta back Nafe up on the good fight! Yuna and Soma do nothing, but Soma got a free pass and Yuna a snark comment.

DTL just do your :DTL without the snark comments at the girls.

Well
that confirms my theory about multiple universes...it was foreshadowed in the final episode of E7 and in the movies too...maybe I should've watched them after all

Lol, the next two episodes are going to shatter the credibility of that notion being 100% correct.

Edit: Oh you did. Congrats! Have fun waiting till August 16th!

I haven't seen this show yet but as an Utena fan this caught my attention. I'll have to remember that.

It's a long show, and there's no drama or overarching plot, but the show is funny, has great fanservice (and no, I don't mean the ecchi kind), and the humor is making me laugh.

All in all, fun things are fun.
I may eventually benefit from a rewatch of this as my anime reference knowledge base has increased considerably since I first saw this. I would have never gotten that Utena reference back in 2008 or whenever this aired.
I think that's what i'm benefiting from the most here, is my expanded anime knowledge.

You still need a Japanese 3DS which I have. Well, it's in Japan right now because my buddy there traded it in for me so I could upgrade to an XL. :D

It may be that a lot of what I originally thought was merely absurd humor is actually reference humor. I suppose that the fact that I was able to enjoy Hayate no Gotoku! with limited anime knowledge is proof that it's more than soulless reference porn.

icarus, Emunoz, and I all hated it. Jexhius and Branduil defend it. Narag enjoyed it but only after accepting the story was retarded.

What did you think of the The Matrix trilogy, particularly the second movie?

Yeah, I should've specified my words a little better. It's definitely thrown in the back seat though, as far as i've gotten at any rate (however starting around right where i'm at seems to start some consistency). At least i'm getting closer to S2!

Hana Kimi 1

H3DAA.jpg

This is what joining a boys only highschool does to you :(

Based on the super popular shoujo manga (also titled Hana Kimi), this is a classic tale of love, drama, and plenty of comedy.

Ashiya Mizuki, the main character, decides to crossdress and join a boys only highschool to follow her beloved. of course, the reasons why are a lot more complicated than just love.
sports, injury, rapists, drama, etc, etc

The important part of all this so far is that

A. She's a girl

B. She's at a boys only Highschool

C. the school is filled with colorful personalities

Hijinks are bound to ensue.

Also of importance is that everyone attending the school has to live in the school dorms, which is divided into three houses, each with it's own style.

1hoK6.jpg

The fabulous 3rd house

UnKTW.jpg

the hotblooded 1st house

wDs6I.jpg

and the "normal" second house

Upon arriving, Ashiya naturally chooses the dorm of her beloved (who's named Sano, for future reference), and joins the second one. Probably a good choice, considering how extra insane the other two are. Of course, she ends up being Sano's room mate.

2CGG1.jpg

This is what room mates do at night, just in case you were wondering. BL fuck yeah

Ashiya is also an exceptionally fast runner, which is what the the first episode is about. As standard protocol for any anime featuring a boy's highschool, there are naturally regular competitions between the dorms, with varying prizes for the winners.

Ok, that's enough boring summary that isn't doing that great a job of getting anyone interested in this, now on to the fun parts.

The characters are all very funny and distinctive, the three dorm leaders all have varying amounts of influence over their respective underlings.

Since practically every character in Ashiya's class is named and given a few standard character traits,
there's the gay guy, the pale psychic guy, the flamboyant drama club guys, the troop of martial artists, Sano fills the male tsundere role, the conflicted-about-feelings-for-main-character guy, and so on
I'll just skip going over them, it would take to much effort. The important part is that Sano is clearly tsundere.

Of course, there's also the female counterpart school, complete with bitchy female leader who will be ashiya's rival and fail spectacularly, and her cohort of underlings.

Somehow that ending up being more summary, but I don't care, let's move on, it's not like anyone is going to read this anyway.

Ashiya's hazing upon entering the classroom was great, complete with CG balls and falling washpans reminiscent of NISA's Prinnies, they even managed to fit in the "you've got no boobs" moment in the first few minutes of the series, they're clearly going all out on this.

How hard is it to get fake blood? It looked like they realized 2 minutes before the shoot, "Damn, we forgot to pick up fake blood from walmart, quick director-san, let's use your extra hotsauce".

As is requisite for these kinds of shows,
the doctor finds out that she's a girl! How will it end? Will be she be expelled on only the second episode? Of course not, I already know that much.

There's quite a few comparisons that could be made between this and Ouran Host Club, both featuring short haired cute girls masquerading as cute guys, albeit for very different reasons. The humor also seems quite similar to me, the washpan moment really did feel like it could have come straight out of Ouran.

Well, it sounds pretty dull the way I've put it, but it was really quite fun, stilted acting and soap-opera tier camerawork and all.

Wait ! Let me reformulate my theory :
Multiple universes in which you can travel at different points of time and space, so the 1999-2002-Eureka isn't the same as the 2012-Eureka but experienced the same things at a certain point of their respective lives ! Add some time stable loop and timey wimey ball stuff, and voilà !

Yes they wait is going to be excruciating. Still, I have loads of Gintama to watch.
